Original

i think that's really the only valid argument against robin in a film setting where it's of a serious tone even though it's a complete fantasy world. maybe if the films were campy, robin fits in but in the serious setting, not even close.

whats pedophillic about a man adopting a young boy and allowing him to spend lots of time in his cave?

maybe you should go walking around in tight leather or other form fitting outfits with a child dressed in bright flamboyant clothing to see what reactions you might receive.

Laughter?

Seriously, though if Robin were in a film,do you really think Nolan would have him in bright flamboyant colors?

Is there anything homo-erotic about Tim Drake and Batman's relationship? It lacks the camp of the 1940's Robin, no flamboyant costumes, its a good deal. Thats how a Nolanverse Robin would work (even if Nolan is not the director).

He wouldn't be wearing that. He'd be wearing the same high-tech armor that Batman wears. The colors would probably also be darkened quite a bit. I could see Tim Drake's current costume working perfectly. Red and black, with the only yellow on the inside of the cape. No green, no exposed legs, no pixie boots.

See, Robin is a character that has totally been ruined by fruity Burt Ward. God. The 1960's. What a wretched time. Anyway...Robin could work out really well. When they reintroduced Robin (Sort of, anyway) in Long Halloween it was minimalistic, but great.
What they need to do is not introduce Dick Grayson until at least the 3rd movie. Maybe have the events of Boss Zucco killing his parents be a background plotline. Then in the fourth really focus on his transformation into Robin. None of this..lame pixie boots and panties costume, either. Go with the Tim Drake version, damnit.

Your thinkin of Dark Victory (Not The Long Halloween) - but besides that

There have been SO many threads like this...it starts off with the thread maker asking if Robin should be in the future Nolan films and ends with the maker saying they think Robin should...

Here is what I said in the other Robin threads...

Here is what I would like. Have Dick Grayson appear as a young boy (8 or 9 or however old he is in the comics when he is introduced) towards the end of the 3rd film. Show his parents' death and at the very end of the film have Bruce adopt him.

You guys may wonder why I say 8 or 9 for his age...here is why:

- I like to stick to as close to the comics as possible and even if they change how his parents die at least get his age right. It is somewhat special/symbolic/or whatever you want to call it because he is supposed to be the same as as Bruce was when his parents were killed.

- It would be at the end of the 3rd film so you would not have to worry about him becoming Robin yet and wearing the suit. But he could at least start some kind of training: practicing his acrobatics, detective work, throwing the batarangs, etc; just not fighting crime yet.

- I think Batman Forever made a huge mistake with making Robin so much older when first meeting Bruce. Obviously Bruce did not become the father figure and he did not listen to him. Yes even if Dick is younger they might get to a rough start but not with him being some huge rebel like in Batman Forever.

It's a polite way of saying, 'Don't want Robin but don't want angry fans not going to see my sequels either. So, no Robin unless I'm out of the franchise, by the fourth film.'

So...we meet again in a Robin thread....sup. :P

Eh...I don't wanna get in a huge conversation about why it was wrong for Bruce to take in Dick at such a young age again. :O

Yeah that's what they should do. But, the person that gets the job has to be young now so taht he's the right age when the movie being made. You know that kid who plays a young Clark Kent on the first episode of smallville. Not Tom Welling. The one that comes out of the ship. He looks as if he could pull it off.

Agreed - I still think it's too soon for Robin, at least for Nolan's films. Nolan seems to be focusing on Batman's, well, beginning. Robin has nothing to do with Batman's emergence as Gothan's hero. Batman was the Dark Knight for years and years before Robin came along.

i change my stance. i hope they do bring robin into this franchise, too. and unlike last time, make him a little kid in the bright flamboyant fruity outfit and camp him up beyond belief. this way, he ruins the franchise and the third film will suck and it will clear the way for the next restart sans robin forever and have the question of robin answered once and for all: ROBIN SUCKS. this way, it makes everyone happy -- the robin fans get their stupid character and the robin haters will sure to not have robin in the future; it's all about being prepared -- just like batman.

So in other words, you're admitting that Robin wasn't campy and fruity last time?

this way, he ruins the franchise and the third film will suck and it will clear the way for the next restart sans robin forever and have the question of robin answered once and for all: ROBIN SUCKS.

So one bad interpretation of a character means that he officially sucks? So i take it Batman sucks too then, since he was pretty campy and fruity in the 60's and 90's. I guess they should stop making Batman movies since Batman and Robin and the old TV show answered once and for all: BATMAN SUCKS.

Robin is basically in the exact same position now that Batman was in about 20 years ago when Michael Uslan was trying to get B'89 off the ground. Everyone was so used to the 60's show, no one thought he could be dark. "Batman can't be dark and serious! He's just some fat funny guy in tights!" Look how that turned out?

I used to be strongly anti-Robin.

Of course, I also used to be a *****e.

Connection? I think so.
