The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 3

Thinking back on it now after someone mentioned in on another forum, did anyone else find it odd for Spidey to be all jokey in the opening when Rhino's truck was slamming into bystanders cars, causing them to explode and, quite clearly, killing them? Just seems really dark now lol

A "fresh" review at 3/5 doesn't mean they're recommending it.

As a consensus it's a borderline rating that can tip either way. That's why an individual 3/5 rating is left up to the critic whether it's fresh or rotten. To me though, with more fresh than rotten reviews and a 5.9 avg it means mediocre/OK and not bad.

Harsh to some, a optimistic look for others....

Hmmm, Spiderman as sociopath? Maybe this is a franchise for Nolan!

Well the good news is that my expectations are pretty much in the sewer so unless this film is somehow worse than Silent Hill Revelations it couldn't possibly disappoint me.

That's good news? :oldrazz:

Seriously I don't think anyone ever thought we'd see the day where a Spider-Man movie would be struggling in a rotten rating like this. I didn't even think any Spidey movie would score lower than SM-3. I wouldn't believe it if I was not seeing it with my own eyes.

Those are some pretty big shoes to fill, I couldn't even make it past the opening lol

[BLACKOUT]The only movie in which Sean Bean died twice.[/BLACKOUT] lol

now that is just harsh.

Harsh, but very fitting. If you watch the movie, you'll see how it's practically a parody of Spider-Man, in much the same way the Schumacher movies were parodies of Batman.

That's the thing, it was just excessive. Seemed like every chance Webb got, he just had to have Spider-Man being a complete smart-ass. They took it way too far with this one.

It was all a dream...

Lol maybe Avenging Spidey thought he was just having a nightmare.

I think you should just take your chances with the sewer instead. This movie isn't worth the wasted time...I seriously recommend that you skip it. Never thought I'd say that about a Spider-Man movie.

Yeah pretty sad hey. I loved the first 15 minutes or so, and was expecting the film to be a great ride, then suddenly, it just turned into a complete and utter mess. I've not felt the urge to walk out of a theater in boredom in a long time, but this one almost did it.

Wow. lol

I could always change my mind and skip it, I know that I don't literally have to see any film.

Every director thinks that every actor can pull a Robert Downey Jr. It happened in Green Lantern and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

For me, "mixed-bag" really does cover it.

That said, although I understand why the rating is going the way it is, I do believe it's a little harsh.

In all fairness, I'm venting. As a Spidey fan, I couldn't be more disappointed, so take that for what it's worth.

If you think this flick looks good and you're still intent on seeing it, knock yourself out. I'm just a stranger on the internet, so needless to say, I'm sure our sensibilities differ.

I will say that like the poster above, I was intent on walking out about midway through, and the only thing that stopped me is that Spider-Man is my number one. There was a fleeting hope that the payoff would justify the preceding 2 hours of mess, or that the movie would inexplicably get better sooner or later...but I knew better, especially after seeing movies like Prometheus that were just one long, aimless, inconsequential plod to the bitter end.

I just...can't believe this movie. Never would I have expected it to be so braindead in any alternate plane of existence. Good grief.

That usually only works when you also have RDJ talent and RDJ writing and or vetting a lot of the dialogue.

I know a lot of fans said they laughed at that Chimney/Waaaaaahhhh bit in the trailer but I thought it was embarrassingly unfunny - just dumb. I couldn't fathom why they'd want to highlight it in a trailer.

In the end.. my favorite Top Critic.. Is ME

As long as there is no emo dance scenes I will mostly likely enjoy this movie.

This cannot be said enough .
RDJ is the text book example of perfect casting.

In all honesty Garfield isn't the problem. I can't help but focus on the negative right now due to frustration, but he and Stone have never been better together. I actually appreciate her more in this film than the last, as one of my biggest beefs with the first movie is that she was something of a blank slate, and was little more than Peter's sounding board for his exposition and monologues. She's actually given a character this time.

Every other character, on the other hand? Hollow, unexplored, campy, cliched, shallow, you name it.

Speaking of characters, I'm actually quite taken aback by how devoid this movie is of them. One thing I recall about the Raimi films, and I really couldn't care less who this comparison inevitably pisses off, is that Spidey's world seemed so full of life; New York was just teeming with so many personalities that Peter and the characters in those movies interacted with. This movie is overwhelmingly Peter & Gwen's little back-and-forth. It's cute when they're together, but it never goes anywhere and manages to drag for the entire duration of the movie. The big payoff at the end is the only reason for it, mind you, all of which could have been avoided if their relationship (as well as her as a character) was properly and thoroughly developed in the previous movie. The plot just drags and drags...and drags.

There's even some ridiculously unnecessary bit about a couple of airplanes. Talk about fodder...

I haven't seen the movie yet but based on the reviews, it seems that most of the problems with the movie is disjointed plot lines and too many action scenes. so I won't be walking into the theater with high expectations.

I thought it was unfunny and totally try-hard as well.
