Well, that...and the fact that you don't spends hundreds of dollars in CGI for animation.

Just stating that Banner having control was not a "sudden" event but rather something that had been introduced in TIH.

I'd say that in Avengers he didn't really have enough screen time to warrant multiple lines so "puny god" was okay for the context of the scene. However in the MCU, Hulk has just spoken four times in two appearances. In TIH he pretty much whispered "leave me alone", shouted "Hulk smash" and said "Betty". In Avengers he just said "puny god".

Other than a few words, he hasn't been shown expressing his thoughts or engaging in conversation with other characters. I think this what what Hulk fans want to see in terms of characterisation.

Actually I'm pretty sure he screams "STOP!!" while being fired at on the Helicarrier.

And I think he says Hulk Smash during the commotion of him crashing into the first building Chitauri after Cap gives the order. I'm a little less clear on that one though. Could just be a generic roar, but it sounds like a very harsh "SMASH!" to me.

How many variations of the Hulk have their been with distinctive traits and personalities?

At least a dozen, if not more but the implication is that there are potentially hundreds of personalities roaming around Bruce's head (at least in the comics).

Speaking of interactions, is it really confirmed that the relationship between Bruce and Natasha will be romantic? Everyone knows that they will have some sort of dynamic, the trailer gives it a hint, and Ruffalo stated that romance was in future when questioned (though in a joking laughing manner).

I wonder because neither actor has come right out and stated it, at least not in my recollections. Which confuses me because if the media has latched on and most audience members have latched on and footage is shown, then why not just come out and state it?

I personally WOULD NOT MIND IT if they shared a relationship - a sort of Beauty and the Beast thing - as long as it didn't detract from the narrative. Joss Whedon, a lover of his female characters, would be the director to make sure it was meaningful. That being said, is it possible it's just platonic or at least focused more on the dynamic of both of them being 'monsters'? I would like their similarities of both being remade and both trying to atone for the sins of the past. I just don't know if a romance would arise from it or work with it.

A romance between the two hasn't been officially confirmed. The rumour originated from El Maybe, and has been repeated following Ruffalos jokey statement in that interview and on Twitter. I'm guessing that it's a misdirection just by the fact that he's talking about it and that scene of them was included in the trailer.

I think it will be a platonic friendship and they are paired together as a continuation of the first movie. They would be a very weird romantic couple (the age difference alone is icky) and I'm not a fan of the idea.

I suppose I just want screen time devoted to seeing the development of the Hulk and Banner personalities and how he works with the entire team. If we are only going to see him in Avenger movies then I want this time to be used wisely and not wasted on stories like this.

People are forgetting that Hulk was the one touching Natasha's hand, not Bruce. When it's Hulk, it's less of a matter of being intimate (at least with Savage Hulk) as it is him connecting with a friend on a deeper level.

I always looked at that snippet as them getting past what went down in the first movie & developing a deeper (though not romantic) bond.

I'm 99.9% sure that's what we're getting.

Agree completely with you. I think using that scene in the trailer is what you describe. The Hulk is part of the team and this is just an illustration that they are friends (to show how far he has progressed since he hit her in the first movie). A romance would be a disservice to the Banner, Hulk and Widow characters.

A disservice? Why?

What has been the main points of discussion for Widow in AoU? The most hottly discussed have been her hair :whatever: and her supposed romance with Banner. This also seems to link to the traditional love interest role of dying to cause the hero pain. She has already been 'linked' to everyone in the team (except Thor) and I can't see a romance with Banner adding to her story.

Banner clearly didn't trust or really like her in Avengers. To try to explain why he suddenly loves her is to much for an already packed movie (especially when they are such an odd couple).

Fans say they are attracted to each other as they are both monsters. Banner isn't a monster (he's shown as a nice, but angry guy) and the Hulk acts out of instinct and not due to some evil agenda. Widow on the other hand is unpleasant (necessary as a spy) and has committed terrible crimes, often willingly. I can't see Banner wanting to be with her romantically.

What about Betty? Also Hawkeye and the arrow necklace need to be explained.

I suppose I can't see a convincing romance between the two, but accept that some can and do like the idea. Whatever their relationship I hope its platonic!

It doesn't really matter to be whether they have a romantic relationship, but I'd like to see them have one that's different than the BroTP of Nat and Steve or Bruce and Tony.

They're both people who seem to have a hard time trusting and opening up to people, even their friends, so they might feel more comfortable opening up to (or becoming intimate) with someone they know is going through the same thing.

The main points of discussion for many critics of the first movie was that Widow was "just fanservice" and "didn't really do anything". Completely asinine.

Honestly, I'd love it if MCU Widow turned out to be canonically asexual and/or aromantic. So that way all this fuss over who she's going to sleep with would officially be nonsense and we could smother that kind of talk into the dust. No more team bicycle. Instead she's the woman you call in to get **** done.

Then the debate will just turn into who is good enough to "cure" her of her asexuality

Yeah, I didn't consider that. D: There's no winning is there? I mean, unless we just ridiculed the hell out of those who would debate that, but I don't know if that sort of traction could be achieved on boards that obsess over her most attractive hair style.

Also, I doubt she'd be interested in catching the multitude of STI's Bond has probably got by now.

The more I think about it, the more it really peeves me we aren't getting another Hulk soon.

I very much agree, but the sad thing is that outside of the character's own fanbase there doesn't seem to be a great demand for it.

I hope we can at least stay updated on what he's up to until Infinity War. If we can't have our long overdue follow ups with the Leader, Betty and General Ross, than I'd like to at least see Bruce have small roles here and there in the MCU (wherever he'll appropriately fit of course), and maybe lend Hulk to an action scene or two across the other solo movies.

But yeah, the incredibly lengthy amount of time that we're looking at without any adaptations of Hulk's coolest stories is very disappointing. Phase 4 is likely going to be the earliest we'll ever see a Hulk solo, and even then it may not even be in the opening stretch of that. I suspect Phase 4 will open with Iron Man 4, and then a few sequels to the newer franchises coming with Phase 3, and then The Incredible Hulk 2. (call me a pessimist if you must).

That would be welcome to stop those conversations, but as another post noted it would open another can of worms! Alternatively pair her with someone permanently like Hawkeye or Bucky, and let her other relationships be friendship alone.

If Banner can't be with Betty then let him remain alone as well.

I don't think Marvel want to do another Hulk movie even in phase 4. Does anyone else think he might appear in Dr Strange?

I really hope he appears in Dr Strange, with or without a guaranteed Phase 4 solo.

If they can adapt Crossroads in a way that services both of them (but more so Strange, being his debut film and all), then he'd be a welcome supporting character. And as I've said before, Hulk has no chance of outshining Strange in his own movie, because Strange should be dealing with issues that go far far above and beyond what Bruce or the Hulk are capable of dealing with on their own.

Whereas if Bruce were in Civil War, he'd likely be able to stomp on whatever threats that Steve and Tony have to deal with. Probably why both he and Thor were absent for that arc in the comics. They're too powerful and would likely not really pick a side in the first place. If they were present, you'd have an outsider who doesn't agree with either side and can smite whichever side goes out of bounds first.

Power dynamics aside, Crossroads is also just a pretty damn good story line that just so happens to involve Dr. Strange and the Hulk. So... there.

Kevin Fiege's comments on another Hulk solo weren't encouraging either, he sounded vague and uninterested "Maybe there'll be another Hulk movie, someday."

Phase 5, maybe.

My thoughts have always been you will have difficulty with a solo Hulk film. Because the best story line like World War Hulk and Planet Hulk would make a continuation of the rest of the Marvel franchise on Earth incredibly difficult because the impact would be so dramatic. So until for some reason Hulk gets shot to another planet, we won't get a Hulk movie in my opinion.

Personally I think something Planet Hulk-esque would be the best option. Let him shine in something other than "drifter on the run from the military"
