Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern

Well yea its good that they picked an actor who is liked by comic fans, and generally can cause good buzz and is popular actor.

I was surprised to find so many people were against Robert Downey Jr being cast as Tony Stark. I wasn't interested in an Iron Man movie UNTIL Robert Downey Jr was cast. He single-handedly sold the movie for me.

I saw the trailer. That won me over. Admittedly I was holding Ihis past against him.

My mom was the same way. She never liked him because of his past. I told her he really turned his life around ad isn't one of those guys who say their life is right when they really aren't. Then she watched Zodiac, she loved him in it, but she still wasn't crazy for him. When she watched IM and Tropic Thunder, complete turnaround.

And really, his past is one of the reason's he's perfect for the role. He can just draw from that.

I think fanboys and even some casual fans wanted Stark to be some late 20s-early 30s actor who would grow facial hair and take on the mantle, because that's what we're used to with these movies. Downey was one of those guys that we see in the media, but people tended to crack jokes about regardless of how good an actor he is.

i would have thought they would go with somebody younger, like peter facinelli rather than go with RDJ but it was a good choice.

I never understood the people who didn't think Downey Jr. was right for Tony Stark. I mean, hell, if you look at their pasts, they are a lot alike.

I thought downey was a good match for stark, and ironman anyway was also a hero when he was as a adult in 30s/40s.

They wanted him to be trapped on the edge of an endless game. His teenage life would never be the same. So in a dangerous world he could do all he can.

He's IIIIIII-ROONNNNNNNNN MANNNNNN!!!!!!!

This is exactly what I've been saying.

I'll admit when he was cast three years ago I never heard of the guy. Then I looked him up and about his past I'm like, "Well, that's perfect." Found out about him in Zodiac and then saw it later and thought, "He IS perfect."

For those of you who don't frequent the fan art thread, check out wobbly's awesome manip of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern:

That's so amazing, but the earth below him bothers me for some reason. I can't put my finger on it. I'm not saying the piece is bad, I love it, but I just don't like the planet below him. Props to wobbly though :)

Cool art.

BTW, I just saw Adventureland, and Ryan's hair was perfect for Hal Jordan ! He needs to have that style in Green Lantern. It's longish without being overgrown.

How was his performance in the film?

It's actually a very against-type piece of casting. Ryan plays the semi-*****ey repairman/musician. He actually plays the role fairly straight and serious, so his character isn't 'funny' per say, though he might spit out a joke or two.

When I say semi-*****e, he's not an outright 2D jerk. Just kinda misguided.

This made me lol

Like the first pick in the draft. He should have worn a GL cap, though.

As for Nathan Fillon, there was recently an interview where he conceeded that Reynols was the better choice for the role. Fillion admitted that he was more of a side kick and comic relief. Oh well.

This guy is a goofball actor. Not to mention, a leftover from his horrible comic book movie roles.

^Have you seen any of his non comedic roles? He's actually a very capable dramatic actor.
