a reboot is not necessary yet. the main difference between the spidey series and say, the batman '90's series, is that even though spidey 3 didn't live up to the hype, it was not a complete disaster. character development was achieved and not thrown aside. as for batman, as the series progressed, the introduced allies/villains became mindless additions to boost the action sequences. as long as the spidey series continues the focus on character development (remember, even though venom was given a brief stint, which was unfortunate, eddie brock was fully developed throughout the flick). so therefore, i do not think a reboot will happen just yet, until at least 7-10 years when signs of the series following the '90's batman series become apparent.

After Spider-man 6 the public would be tired of Spider-man movies.

I disagree.

Star Trek and James Bond went WAY past 6 movies. Hell, James Bond is STILL going strong today, and everyone knows Spidey is TEN times cooler than Bond. :word:

Same continuity for at least 3 more films. No reason at all to reboot right now.

I'm going to post something I've already said in another place...but this is the real place for it...

I'll just say that if there is a new cast named (and we need to quit throwing the word reboot around here on practically every freakin thread)---Buster Crabbe, Johnny Weissmuller, and a few other ones after them...all of them were called Tarzan...there was no reboot...it was just a different guy. And, with that new guy, a slightly different sensibility and a slightly different sense of direction.

I'm sick of, never liked it,.... the weapy eyed, Peter's a loser, Toby's getting paid by the ugly faces he makes, (with his mask off all the time) Spider-Man that we've seen.

I want a new cast. I'd settle for a new everything.

I think he was actually pre-emptively acknowledging that and making light of it. But please, don't let that stop the hate parade.

No, he was being serious.

REBOOT.

Wait 5-7 years, bring the series back in way that's fresh and revitalizing. All new characters, that means. They could just as easily go Ultimate and I wouldn't mind. I look forward to seeing different aspects of the Spider-man mythos. I mean, there's over 40 years of stories to tell, but there's no need to cram all of those stories into the same movie continuity.

I'd like to see a new film that starts off with Peter falling in love with Gwen Stacy in high school. Then in the sequel, she meets her ultimate demise (maybe in a some way other than the bridge fall) at the hands of the Goblin, and Peter must deal with that. Love. Loss. And meeting MJ in the third film.

Hey Batman1939,

Dig your sig. I met Frank Gorshin. I appreciate someone who appreciates Frank. Really cool guy. Hero of mine.

If any recasting is done with any of the leads, to me that should automatically equal reboot.

Same continuity until 6. Then they should re-boot 10-15 years after 6 is released.

^ It'd be nice if that could happen. But I don't know if the Raimi & the cast has what it takes to complete 6...

imo, they should do one more movie...with the same cast, of course.
then end this movie franchise.
then...after 15, 20 years...they can start this again.

15 or 20 years? Even Batman didn't wait that long...
I know...but the last Batman movies were cr@p. and Spidey movies are awesome. I think it would disrespect this movie franchise if they do another one in just few years. and I think people are done with Spidey movies, for now. so...let's wait a little longer. that's my opinion.

I only really want 1 more movie. But keep the continuity as it is the lgoical choice from a storytelling perspective and a financial perspective.

In 10-20 years have your reboot for better or worse then.

I would settle for at least one more movie. After that, they can do whatever the hell they want!

I never want a reboot. We've seen the origin story already. The only reason it worked for Batman is because that story had never been told on screen. Same thing for James Bond. Casino Royale had never been adapted properly before. We got a lame 50s TV Pilot with an American Bond and a 60s Bond parody. This doesn't apply to Spider-Man.

Even if they have to recast and get a whole new crew, it should be a continuation of the same series ala James Bond pre CR.

Double post...edit

Raimi and co. SM4, and after that, we cue the reboot.

I know I will get flamed for this, but I'm going to say it anyways:

A re-boot would be nice, let the franshise take a break for about 5 years, then re-boot the whole thing. Sami Rami, while he does have a idea what spiderman is about, seems to have gotten caught up in a "I want to make the Spider-Man world my own" idea, where Spidey doesn't need a mask, and he can stand behind a whole crowd of people without it on, or save a speeding bus, and no one ever sees him, knows who he is, or is smart enough to report what he looks like and cash in on a reward. Also, Sandman really killed Ben Parker, and where Harry is neither the Green Goblin or the Hobgoblin, just some whacked out guy who threw rockets on his snowboard and missed the X-Games.

Also, Rami screwed Spider-Man in Spider-Man 1, by keeping Gwen Stacy out of the picture. Gwen's death had as big an impact as Uncle Ben's death on him and his personality. This would be along the same lines of only one of Bruce Waynes parents being murdered, but the other survived, it just doesn't work with the character.

Also, Rami doesn't get Spider-Man's personality. He nails Peter Parker, aside from the fact we don't see him invent anything, but when he puts on the Spider Man costume, he transforms, becomes a different, more confident person. Has anyone ever ready the script treatment for James Camerons Spiderman? He understood it, even had a great scene where Peter first put on the Spider Man mask, when he first made it, in his room, and started acting more confident and quipping lines, and Aunt May knocked on the door, and he yanked the mask off and was back to the meek, docile Peter Parker. THAT'S how Peter/Spidey should be, not pelvic thrusting down New York streets or being mute when fighting supervillians. (Cameron even had in his script Spidey had the organic web shooters, but Peter made mechanical ones to try to cover how he could shoot web to other people) Now, countering what I have said about Cameron, lest I get flamed on this, he had the Peter/MJ deal going from square one as well, no Gwen at all, so his was lacking this as well.

I'd love a reboot, give the series 5 years to cool off, and then restart it with a new director and cast, and start over from square one. Don't make Goblin a Power Ranger, don't make Spidey a mute, and for Pete's sake (no pun intended, or was it?) LEAVE SPIDEY'S MASK ON!!!! With clever lighting, the mask can be just as expressive as a persons face, if not more so. If Rami wants a hero who's face is always shown, have him go direct Green Arrow or something.

Anyways, enough of my rant. Spider-Man 3 (or Peter Parker 2, if you wish) about ruined my faith in Rami's Spidey movies, not because of that movie itself, but the problems and changes Rami has built up in his 3 films. 3 was bad, there is no way around it, it had the potential to be a good one, and I myself sat through the first 80 percent of the movie and thought it was awesome, but then they got to the final act, and it was like Rami though, Crap, I got here, but I have no idea how to end this movie. The ending felt disjointed and thrown together (I know Venom was thrown in there, but still) and I remember one review that has stuck with me, in SM1 and SM2, even though we knew it wasn't going to happen, you still felt like there was a chance that the villian would win. You never felt that in SM3, they got close when Venom was beating the mess out of Peter, but that was only about 5 seconds long before Pete caged Venom and then blew him up. But still, there were problems in all 3 of Rami's films, and when you look at his body of work, and where he is "rumored" to be wanting to go with the series if he stays, I'm not excited about SM4 at all, and I was looking forward to SM3 from the moment the final credits rolled to 2.

But these are just my own, personal opinions. Flame away, if need be.
