I've been hearing alot of wierd stuff on these boards about Raimi changing the uncle ben death scene so that it turns out sandman was the killer.......

I've heard around the net, that Sandman was indirectly responsible for Uncle Ben's death, he was the driver for the guy who stole the money, but he took off before he got to the car, so he had to steal someone elses car to get away, and that's when he killed uncle ben......

what do you think?

hopefully this is the connection if there is a connection at all...

although it would be some sort of retribution for pete. it would not work, in my opinion. i always liked the idea of ben being killed by an average joe criminal- it shows that evil doesnt neccesarialy always have to be in bright coloured spandex to change someone's outlook on life.

and anyway, its just rumours...there are a lot of rumours going around. whats to say what is true or not?

I think it would work, it doesn't take away from the fact that uncle ben was killed by that guy for basically no reason, Flint would have been human too, it would just add to the emotional aspect of the 3rd film

valid point. but i just hate that everything has to be 'connected'. And...the car in Spidey 1 only had the criminal in it. Where was Flint? I doubt he would stop, get out and walk (run?) away. hm......

But it DOES sound pretty cool. In the fact that it would make pete 'more emotional'. I'm sure Sam can pull it off.

What next though? Brock's the guy in Spidey 1 who screams- 'MY LEG!!' in the wrestling ring?

Argh....the horrrorrrrrrr!

I think it's akin to Tim Burton making the Joker the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents. :down:down:down
I think it's redundant and cliche. And you're not all that clear in your description - Sandman takes the car, so the killer kills Ben? Or the Killer takes the car, and Sandman kills Ben?

The real explanation is explained in a similar thread.

One thing I remember hearing is that the symbiot made Spider-man THINK Sandman was the killer. It adjusted his memory and put Flint Marko is the real killers place. That scenario I like a lot because it doesn't change the fact of who actually killed Uncle Ben but adds a very emotional story to the movie.

I'm in accordance with you on this point - in fact, that's what happened when Peter wore the symbiote in the Ultimate version. He wails on this dude because he keeps confusing him with Uncle Ben's killer.

i also like this idea cause it will add to the movie a bit!

that does sound good. if they were going to change the death scene or add more to what really happened, i hope this is it. where did you hear this?

i don't like the idea of sandman being responsible for uncle ben's death

Sandman is not responsible and was never even hinted that he was. There was simply a misquote of possibilites. The two possibilities were that either he was the wheel man who left when he saw the cops after the other guy killed Ben, or that the symbiote was fooling Peter's mind into thinking Marko was Ben's killer.

They would never change the real killer of Ben. That is the entire reason that Peter became Spider-Man.

Yeah, but then why even ADD that part? It's unnecessary, and in a movie with reportedly FOUR villains, they can't afford that much narrative clutter.

True, however, it could really add to the intensity of Peter losing total control while wearing the symbiote. But, I would rather it not happen, and it's just a rumor anyway.

NOOOO!!! It would mess up the first movie. I would be ok if maybe Flint was WITH the killer, but that would still suck. Sandman should have no connection with Ben's death.

Well, I'd have no problem with Symbiote-addled Spidey to hallucinate that Sandman is his uncle's killer (that would actually be kinda cool) and would help the symbolism just fine.

Sandman sent the guy to get the money at the wrestling place in the first movie.

That's the only connection I could think of.
