Ok, not many people think of it this way, but having Sandman the accidental killer of Uncle Ben strips the Spider-Man story of the main and pretty much only reason Peter Parker dones the outfit. Originally he wasn't going to be Spider-Man, he just was gonna get money by doing odd things. He became the hero we know and love by now understanding that "With great power comes great responsibility." and knowing he must protect people from thugs who steal and kill... this was triggered by the death of Uncle Ben.

Now that Sandman is the accidental killer of Uncle Ben, it takes away the main element as to why our hero is a hero!

It takes away that big element, all because of Sam Raimi's vision.

I like the drama of Flint being the killer, but at the same time it takes away a big plot!

Eh, I've gotten over it. Plus, if he stopped Carradine to begin with Ben wouldn't have been shot.

^ Actually it doesn't strip away from the plot at all. In fact, it adds to it. Making choices and forgiving people, even for there accidents, is part of being responsible.

Also, it is worth stating that it is still Peter's fault for Uncle Ben dying. If Peter would've stopped the robber, the robber wouldn't have run up behind Marko, Marko wouldn't be startled, and the gun probably wouldn't have gone off...

so Parker should rly feel even more guilty lol. For the death of his uncle and for Flint, an innocent man who's trying to save his daughter, getting sent to prison..

Well techinically if Peter had stopped the thief in the hallway he could not have surprised Flint pushing him to pull the trigger and then he wouldn't have stolen the car.

Besides, Peter still learned his lesson and it didn't unlearn itself. But the thief still caused Flint to kill Ben Parker and if Peter Parker had stopped him in the hallway earlier, it would not have happened.

All of that jazz is true but what would Flint have done if his partner never showed up? That brings up more questions.

sounds like he was nervous to being with, Marko wouldve probably freaked out and left.

peter is still responsible for uncle ben's death.

I just think they should have never toyed with what they established in SM1 concerning his origin. I think Sandman would have been just as effective had he not killed Uncle Ben...but it's a small fact and doesn't detract from the movie.

It all seems so tacked on like Venom's story because flint simply leaves a man he didn't intend to kill there to die.

Nevermind that if his daughter was so important to him he would have jumped in the car with the crook who has all the money. It's just poorly written all around. sad waste of money this movie.

Exactly, it still would happend the way it needed to, so I don't think it is that big a deal.

Yeah I had to explain this to my friend.

Flint Marko told Peter "My daughter was dying, I needed money, I was scared. I told your uncle all I needed was the car. He said to me "why don't you just put down the gun and go home". I realize now he was just trying to help me. Then I saw my partner running over with the cash and the gun was in my hand *shoot*"

The original guy startled him. He kinda shoved him by putting his hand on his shoulder too.

It's still Peter's fault.

as soon as the crook got in the car he speed on...

and Flint just shot a guy! what was he suppose to do? "oops... now where were we?" and jump in an already speading car? :o

It does? Last I checked if Peter hadn't have let that robber go then his Uncle would still be alive. So the fact still remains, that he feels if he'd stopped the badguy his uncle would still be alive.

You're referring to the flashback that Peter had while at the police station. That's the way he envisioned it happening. That Marko just shot Uncle Ben in cold blood. The way it really happened is how Marko describes it at the end of the movie.

And I know some people that having Sandman do this is lame, but it would take away from the movie if they stuck to origin. Spider-man needed to learn how to overcome the revenge within himself and learn to forgive in this movie. If Sandman never killed Uncle Ben 1) Peter would have no revenge to overcome, 2) there wouldn't be anyone for him to forgive. So if you're gonna take out the part where Sandman kills Uncle Ben, you might as well just take out Sandman entirely because he would serve no purpose in the movie.

As many have already pointed out... Peter still could have prevented Ben's death. That's the reason they made it an accidential shooting, caused by the guy Peter let go.

I still don't like it. As a film, they're just ripping a page out of the Batman script. As an adaptation, they're messing with the most important scene in the series.

Also, it has a negative effect on the previous two movies. In SM1, whe Parker shouts "did you give [my uncle] a chance?!" it's not as powerful because we know he has it wrong. And in SM2 when Parker confesses to Aunt May, and says "Uncle Ben said no and then he shot him"...it really makes it less powerful because we know Parker has it wrong.

I disagree. I think it makes it more powerful because he doesn't know he's wrong. He's been blaming himself and feeling guilty over something that he thought he had all the facts on, so an audience member, it actually makes me sympathize with him even more.

That's what I'm saying, it's all done too fast and hectic, because the writers don't want to spend time making it all make sense.

Why does the thief leave marko behind to identify him if he gets caught. Why does Marko leave ben there to die? Why does he have a loaded gun if he didn't intend to shoot it?

this is all bullocks if you think about it for a minute.

I really enjoyed the subway fight. Sandman was just trying to do good but Spidey really kicked his ass bad.

So you'd felt sorry for Sandman but still, you'd enjoy the fight because its coolness lol.
