Now that we have actually seen the movie, how do you feel about Flint Marko being Uncle Ben's killer?

Fortunately, Peter's decision to let the thief go still made a difference. If Peter had just tripped him, he would not have bumped into Marko, and the gun would not have gone off.

But, I still didn't like it. It ruined two scenes...

1) In Spidey 1, when Parker tracks down the thief to the warehouse. It's not as powerful when he shouts "did you give him a chance?" because now we know he didn't do it. In fact, that whole chase scene just isn't as good now because we know Parker is chasing the wrong guy.

2) In Spidey 2, when Parker confesses to Aunt May that he could have prevented Ben's murder. In his story, he actually says "he wanted a car, he tried to take Uncle Ben's. Uncle Ben said no, and then he shot him." Just isn't as moving anymore because we know Parker has got it wrong.

Why not simply say that Marko hired someone to steal money so that he could cure his daughter, and that guy killed Uncle Ben? That would still give Parker reason to hate Sandman, and want to get revenge.

It wasn't worth messing with the most important scene in the series.

Is it a cheap way to get Sandman connected to Peter? Yes

Having said that, I think it was worked very well into movie. Plus the "with great power comes great responsiblity" theme still stands. If the robber was stopped most likely Sandman would have not accidently shot Ben.

yeah, peter still can take the blame for himself. that isnt going to change. i dont think it takes anything away from the scenes you mentioned.

peter probably feels even more guilty over it now. even with death staring uncle ben in the face, he tried to help out marko and do the right thing. peter was still being selfish, still jsut wanted to piss off the wrestling manager.

the line "uncle ben died that day, for being the only one who did the right thing" still stands.

If he hadn't let him go, he wouldn't have startled Marko, and the gun wouldn't have went off. Still loads better than when Batman 89 made Joker the killer off the Waynes. That felt thrown in. This felt like it was helping the ego/revenge/forgiveness themes.

Originally, I was skeptical when I heard that they were connecting Sandman to Ben's death...but after seeing it in the context of the movie, it works. So i'm fine with it.
