I just got back from the Phillies/ Cubs game tonight, July 20th.
In about the 5th inning, the Philly Phanatic rides out onto the field on his ATV, as always, but this time there was something different.
He was wearing a black, scalloped cape. A black mask with two long bat ears and a black shirt with the Bat-symbol on a yellow oval.
As he road out, the 1966 Batman Theme Song played on the PA system. He pulled up in front of the Chicago Cubs visitors dugout and tormented the Cubs for a bit, then road over behind home plate. When he got off of the ATV this time, the music shifted to the dark, brooding Danny Elfman Batman score from 1989. On the "Phanavision", We could see the Fanatic going after and trying to fight one of the fans in attendance, Jack Nicholson. He was there in his Yankees hat, and when the Phanatic got close, with his fists up, squaring Jack off, challenging him...Jack looked at the camera and gave his best Joker grin to the fans. He put his hands up and fluttered his hands like little bat wings as he did when he played the Joker.
He really played it up, seemed to appreciate that even 20 years removed from the role, and having a new actor take over the role and win an Oscar for it- that everyone still loved his turn as the Joker.
I heard he was in Philadelphia to shoot a film, but I'm not sure which.
It was just cool to be at a game that Jack Nicholson was at- being a Phillies fan, that never happened- it's not like a Lakers or Yankees game, ya know?
Just thought the way he played it up and gave his famous Joker-grin was worth it.
