Saw VI discussion thread

how did hoffman know about amanda? did i miss something?

Hoffman's involvement traces early back . For some reason i feel bad for Amanda , I liked how she set him up and vice versa.

Also the Dr. Gordon mention was intriguing becuase he was willing to try something out of the norm . It's a stretch but I think he'll be in flashbacks
in the next movie.

Saw this today. Hated it. Utter ****ing ****. Every second was boring. No I did not pay for it.

-10/10

I'm confused. You hated it, but you give it 10/10?

My God Celtic. You've been whining for pages about how it sucks, and then you see it anyway.

Do you know what I do when I don't like a movie?

I spend absolutely no effort on it. I don't even visit a thread about it. But you are just trolling for pages about how you hate the movies. We get it; you don't like it. Now that someone has given you the attention you were crying for, are you happy?

And of course, just the type of intelligent and insightful review I've come to expect.;)

Saw loses half it's audience from last year, and had the lowest opening in the series.

WEEKEND ESTIMATES 1.Paranormal Activity$22,000,0002.Saw VI$14,800,0003.Where the Wild Things Are$14,420,000

which is shame considering this one of the better saw films.

The last two weren't very well received and it had to deal with a rare phenomenon in PA that appeals to the exact same audience.

SAW VII will most likely make significantly more than this despite probably being an inferior film since it's following a very well received movie and will have less competiton.

I hope the studio doesn't diss the director because of this and not let him direct another. He made a good movie

I'm a fan of this series, because I love the stories and the twists at the end.
Three was good and all, but I didn't think IV could top it, and in my opinion it did. I loved the fourth one.
Five disappointed me because of the "You won't believe how it ends" stuff, which the ending was not as good as the first four, so I was really let down by it. I watched it again Thursday, and I enjoyed it more the second time around. I saw VI at midnight and it was a big improvement over five. However, this needed to be the last. I think 6 movies is good enough. Here's how I rate them best to least best.

We have pretty much the exact same opinion but after the ending of 6 I really really wanna see Hoffmans revenge and the emergence of Dr. Gordon as Jigsaws surgical...engineer? For lack of a better term

I havent seen most of the Saw films as the Jigsaw concept just doesnt appeal to me and the acting and script in the films I saw were just atrocious...

That said...I hate to be the defender of torture porn...but these movies DO have a place in horror, and in theaters.

What most people dont realize (including the films own directors and production teams) is that Jason, Freddy etc are the HEROES of their films. No one is scared of Jason. If there was a real Jason, he'd be shot by a neighbor and the movie would be over. People like those films BECAUSE the killer kills people they want to see die. The egotistical jock, the cool black friend...even the virgin and her understanding boyfriend. We WANT them to die, and we watch these films in hopes of seeing the killer come up with new and cool ways of administering death. More often than not, these films dont satisfy that hope, as we get stab, stab, broken neck, stab time after time. That's why people still remember the good kills, such as Jason's sleeping bag assault.

Torture porn films deliver the goods. People can watch a series of pretty meaningless, but creative kills and then afterward talk about how awesome their favorite kill was with their friends, and then forget the movie ever existed. I think the reason for the public's boredom with Saw is that it is trying to provide a complex story, but most people don't remember the films details the day after seeing it, therefore the returning characters that should resonate with the public fall flat. I actually think the yearly format is what has saved the series, as other like Hostel have been forgotten. The point is, if you are going to try to deliver a story, itd better be darn compelling, and most people dont seem to really care about this franchise's story or anyone in it.

All that said, I do believe that it is quite possible to make a great horror movie in the torture porn genre. I just dont think anyone has ever done it.

I love the Saw series. Have since the first. It has its faults but I in no way look at it as "torture porn" Hostel is a different story. It was about people actually inflicting pain on others for there own sick twisted enjoyment. Saw is such more complex than that its ridiculous to compare them. I love the characters in Saw they have actual developement and complex twists and relevance to the overall story. Hostel while I did like both (more funny than scary to me) Saw is actually thought provoking especially the latest installment. No previous Saw film has been as thought provoking or culturally or economically relevant as it is.

Yeah I wasn't expecting a Saw film to use a social commentary that directly reflects with problems most people have now.

Yea which is what made it so damn good. Seeing John and that other guy get **** on like that was so compelling. I could not have loved this one more. The only thing I felt was kinda forced was Amandas involvement with the whole Gideon/Cecil situation. Not to forced but just maybe a little. But the first flashback with Jill, John and Amanda was outstanding. I loved the "It works" line.

That being said I recently re-watched V and it is easily the weakest in the series at least to me. The only thing I liked about it was Hoffmans story and the badassness that was Straham. I loved Hoffmans flashback with John and the shotgun. That whole little speech he gives Hoffman was the best part of the whole movie imo

If it's Halloween it must be SAW PARANORMAL ACTIVITY :hehe:

Sorry I couldn't help it!!!

Planning on seeing this soon, but could someone who has already answer these two questions for me:

Was there any reference to Dr Gordon in this movie? If so, what was it? Also, do you suspect the writers are planning something more with him on VII?

And, what about Jill? Does it reveal in VI that she is with Jigsaw's schemes or against him?

Ha, well, you guys always ***** at everyone saying they shouldnt talk unless they've seen it. And now I did.

And I HATE Saw...so yes, I will bash it.

Got hyperbole?
LOL...sorry. It was late. I was tired.

Personally, I don't like him so I try to avoid interaction.

Well, I dont like you either. :awesome:

The movie deserves nothing other a sentence of hate.

"Torture porn films deliver the goods. People can watch a series of pretty meaningless, but creative kills and then afterward talk about how awesome their favorite kill was with their friends, and then forget the movie ever existed."

That may be how you view as a non fan, but trust me, the films aren't meaningless time-killers that the fans watch just to watch some innovative deaths then forget about after they leave the theatre; fans leave talking about where the character arcs went, the underlying themes to to each trap and the outcome for each victim, how effective the twists and turns in the story were, etc...

the "torture porn" label is one of the most ignorant and over-used ones in cinematic history.
