Saw VI discussion thread

Okay, I watched the first and second video. Both of which were very informative and offered a lot of intelligent thought. This one of the reasons why I enjoy this film and enjoy having this thread open because we come across some interesting viewpoints.

As for how Dr. Gordon knew it was Tapp when Adam said "A tall black guy". I imagine Gordon probably kept up with the Jigsaw case since he was considered a suspect. He probably read the newspapers and everything which is how he knew Tapp was discharged, lost his mind, and so forth. However there hasn't been any indication on that particular timeline since we don't know which events transpired or how long Gordon was missing.

As for Hoffman going through the hallway with no tape? That's a good question. There had to have been someone else who left the tape. I can't see Hoffman thinking to leave the tape when he had to capture victims in SAW V.

Another thing I wanted to add Aniland.

I was on Youtube and a poster on there said that he apparently received a copy of the unrated SAW V DVD(don't ask how) with all the deleted scenes and extended scenes. He went on to state that it was revealed that Strahm left the "I know who you are" note for Hoffman.

I'm not sure if it is a deleted scene or extended one. If what he says is true and it turns out to be a deleted one then it would make sense why they got rid of it.

Some Saw 6 news. It's not big news but it's interesting to discuss right now.

While not much is known of the plot at this point, it has been confirmed that both Tobin Bell and Costas Mandylor will reprise their roles as John "Jigsaw" Kramer and Hoffman respectively. It also has been confirmed that Shawnee Smith is set to return for newly filmed flashback scenes as Amanda Young.

It has been reported by that Saw VI will be much more violent than previous films in the franchise. Also, the film will have traps that pit victims against each other, similar the mausoleum scene from Saw IV.

On December 8, 2008, Tanedra Howard won the 2008 VH1 Scream Queens competition hosted by Saw actress Shawnee Smith. This guarantees Howard a role in Saw VI. Lionsgate made a public statement ensuring her a leading role in the film, although her character remains undetermined as of yet.

so will this be the last or what?

so will this be the last or what?

No one knows for certain. There have been many rumors that they're talking about making a seventh film. So far the only one who has stated that the sixth will be the final film is Tobin Bell.

I'm hoping this will be the last one honestly. Everything needs to be brought full circle with this film.

What interests me is the new flashback scenes with Amanda, rumored new flashback scenes with Strahm, and maybe even a Gordon appearance?

Even if they claim this to be the last... if it makes money, they will make more. And then reboot it in 10 years.

Well your statement would probably be true if Saw was like a Freddy, Jason, or Michael. These films don't delve into any kind of supernatural concepts obviously, so for these films to continue on will be pointless and I can't see people spending money on films that are reality based, you know?

In any event that was the only piece of news I found on Saw VI. Time for it to return to its slowness until a poster, teaser, and new information comes out.

on the house of jigsaw site, in the forum, there is a thread that has one of the writers of the second trilogy talking about and answering questions from fans about the 6th film. from what he said amandas role is a huge part of the movie, her and hoffman know each other and that amanda was written into the V script but shawnee smith couldn't because of scheduling conflicts, jigsaw will have the most screentime since saw III, seths tape with john's voice instead of hoffmans will be explained, and there were a lot of other things he mentioned. also gave a very neutral answer about whether dr gordons disappearance will be explained since he hasn't been seen since part 1

but i definetly hope that 6 will be the last film. it's not that i've grown tired of the franchise, because i certainly haven't, i love all the movies (i'm positive that 5 will be even better after 6). it's just that, for the sake of the story and how far they can really push it, i think 6 would be the perfect time to wrap everything up. jigsaw is already dead, its publicly known, hoffman is the new apprentice tasked with carrying out the remaining games and i'm pretty sure jill is going to bury him in 6 from whatever john left her in the box.

the traps i could never get tired of as long as they are inventive because those, to me, are just as important as a strong story. and thats the reason i think 6 should be the last. if they were to make more past 6 it would seem like they are really dragging the story on, forcefully. seeing as how part 4 takes place the same time as 3 and that john doesn't get killed til the end of 4, 5 is the only film he has been dead in so far. obviously 6 he won't be alive in except for flashbacks but really, once they figure this story out, what could they really do for story? the whole precinct in the town has been axed, they are going back and making sense of a lot of the past traps and how hoffman and amanda figure into everything, and that's interesting and all, but only if they end it with 6.

lets say hoffman doens't die in part 6, and they totally leave it open for another movie, i'll be very disappointed to say the least. it's not that i won't want to wait another year to figure everything out, because that's what i have been doing for the past few years, i just dont' think it needs to be dragged on any longer. the series will greatly benefit if they end it now and dont' milk it. the fans that the movie has created over the past years have hung on this long, i really doubt people will keep wanting to come back seeing as how the main person from the movies is dead except through flashbacks. they certainly dont' need a prequel or anykind, that would ruin everything, and i've heard about a 3-d sequel (which i guess would be cool but not really a good enough reason to stretch the story out) and i really don't know how i would feel about that

It was pretty blatantly stated that Gordon was coming back in the SAW V script, but the parts pertaining to him were removed, most likely because they didn't want to give away the SAW VI big reveal a year in advance.

And it won't be the least. One of the producers has already stated "we're going to keep making them as long as they keep making money," which, even with huge drop offs, they will for a very long time.

Whether it's the last or not, I want a film that wraps up the second trilogy of the series as well as SAW III did to the first trilogy. If they want to conjur up some way of continuing it as SAW IV did fine, but this should feel like the end, not just another sequel, which as much as I love V, that's how it felt.

I'm a big fan of the SAW series, but I want the sixth one to be the last and final one. Just close everything up.

I know they'll probably make more if the money is good, but they really need to think it through.

I agree with everyone else I hope the sixth is the final one of the series. If they keep dragging it on it will just take away from what came before it. Just finish off this story arc and put it too rest, though I understand for them these films make them money at least..
If they wanna do another 3 or so fine, just end this one and start a new series with new ppl etc...At first I did'nt care what happened to Gordon, but as time went on I like to know as well :)

The official synopsis has been revealed for SAW VI.

A brief synopsis of the plot was revealed which confirms Agent Strahm's death, and Detective Hoffman continuing Jigsaw's work, but with the FBI hot on his trail. This forces Hoffman to set up a game of his own. Jigsaw's overall scheme will also be finally understood.

Home Hardware should've given him the discount:o

Can you actually just post the synopsis?

Can you actually just post the synopsis?

The brief synopsis is all that's been released at this time. A little bit of news was released and I just happened to see it on Youtube, Wikipedia, and a couple of other sites. So unfortunately until a poster, a detailed synopsis, or pictures come out we don't have much to go on.

Awesome!

My co-worker has a theory that Strahm is alive and the walls stopped before they completely crushed him. But with this brief synopsis I wonder what game Hoffman creates? But how could the FBI be hot on his trail if everything leads to Strahm?

Anyone even surprised?

Saw VII .. in 3-D!

There are already plans for SAW VII. Troy Begnaud feels as long as audiences want it, they'll continue making them. "When making an installment, we not only think of year's past but about the future." When asked about the possibility of a SAW sequel in 3D, Troy said there have been discussions but no decisions have been made. Troy feels unlike other films, SAW would lend itself well to 3D without having to trying to hard. "It's not so much about axes flying into the audiences to hit pin-point scares. I think our story could be told really well in 3D and give people a really visceral experience in terms of what these people are going through in their games. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens."

Won't happen. SAW is already stretching thin and I can honestly tell you that it's losing an audience. Six will most definitely be the last one since it's been revealed that Jigsaw's overall scheme will be revealed. Everyone is dead except for Hoffman, Brit, Mallick, Erickson, and maybe Gordon.

I definitely won't see a SAW VII if they go that route.

Agreed.

In all honesty it seemed like an idea that would've been cool for the second and third film. But I honestly can't see them making a seven if this is going to close all the storylines.

However I do have some interesting news regarding the sixth film.

Apparently there will be traps that pit the victims against each other and one of the traps involves a mother/son against each other. That sounded really interesting and very disturbing.

Here's some more Saw VI news.

SAW VI puts emphasis on returning to the franchise's roots especially concerning the traps. "I think in SAW IV and V, we kind of got into these bigger room traps with a lot more people," Jim Murray elaborates. "Everything got so big and you have to ask yourself 'how the hell does this guy with cancer able to pull all of this stuff off?' I think the traps in SAW VI go back home to what the traps were. It's more personal. It's about you and the trap." Kevin Greutert promises a nice balance of intimate and "gargantuan" traps. "There's quite a range of stuff going on in the most awful parts in this film. There are some elements that are the most grandiose anyone will have ever seen in a SAW film." The series' Director of Photography, David Armstrong, who just recently announcing this will be his final SAW gig, enthusiastically teases that "the traps are visually stunning." He contunues revealing one of the new "rooms" in SAW VI. "There is a Carousel Room. It's very carnival, playground-like. It's just nasty. [There are] spinning red lights in there. It's really overwhelming to walk in and look at because everything is spinning," also revealing yet another room called the "Steam Room," one of the cooler traps in SAW. "Also, there's one place called the Steam Room that's probably the best looking SAW trap of them all. It's big and expensive. It's got furnaces, fires and steam. It's muti-leveled. The most complex Saw. We had techno cranes flying through. It was pretty amazing."

One of the stronger aspects of SAW has always been the complexity of its characters. With every installment, another layer is exposed. Nothing is ever what it seems. When questioned about the potential difficulty of being lost in the ever-twisting plot, Tobin Bell aka John Kramer aka Jigsaw simply asks a lot of questions and attempts to come up with as many answers as possible. "Try to fill it in your mind about its logic, credibility and purpose. Frankly, I think that's a lot like John Kramer. He is detailed-oriented. There is no end to its depth." Costas Mandylor playing Detective Mark Hoffman uses the fear of disappointing the fans as a major motivation. "I met them (fans) at a convention and they are really clever. It's like having a coach that keeps you on the edge of your seat or otherwise your going to be benched and you don't want to be benched." Betsy Russell, who plays John's wife, Jill couldn't have said it more simply, "(You) always have to keep thinking, stay on top of it or you'll get lost".

When asked about their characters' present state, Betsy promises we will see a lot more of Jill this time around plus what's inside the box from SAW V. "You find out a little more about if Jill is good or evil. Pretty much you'll know (in SAW VI). I don't know if it was ever answered in the previous ones if I knew he was a killer. We will find out in this one that I do know that about him. We have an amazing love affair and I have a reason to be with him. She is definitely in the present main plot, as well as, flashbacks with more backstory to answer more questions." As for the present story's antagonist, Mark Hoffman, Costas feels "the maturity of Tobin's character shows the rough edges Hoffman is still showing. (Hoffman) sort of torn of becoming a mad man or becoming a guy that's more composed, coming from a pure place like Jigsaw. That's my character's dilemma; does he go ****ing crazy or follow the rules of the boss?"

Kevin Greutert, who was also the editor for all of the previous installments, believes SAW VI will be a great character drama that settles a lot of issues of the series, as well as, a lot of completion to the line of Jigsaw's overall intent. "To me, (SAW VI) has finality to it and that's something I've always wanted to see in the series. Obviously, there was finality to SAW III but to me; this is the end of a second trilogy". Kevin elaborates, "we have a lot more characters than we ever had in a SAW movie. A lot of new faces and obviously, we had to be true to previous stories. I didn't want any violations of logic and chronology."

so will this be the last or what?

One of the producers stated that as long as the films keep making money, they will continue to make SAW sequels. I've been a big SAW fan since the first, but I figured I'll get tired of it by SAW 8. I like Costas Mandylor, but he's no Tobin Bell.
