Horror Saw XI is Dead?

Well, Saw X did do incredibly well and was a great film to boot, so I can't say I'm surprised. I am very curious when this new one would take place. Do they continue in between films and have this set between II and III (not a lot to do there since John's been beaten to a pulp by Eric Matthews at that point)? Further between I and II?

I'll be there day one like always. Let's say Kevin Greutert returns to direct. If he can bring the same energy that the franchise needed that we got in Saw X, and deliver something like that instead of Saw VII, then we may have another winner.

I hope it's some kind of prequel again. It doesn't really work for me when an apprentice is behind everything. Or just do a twist saying John never died, I don't think people would actually be upset about that. Yes it would be silly, but would anyone really care if it doesn't make sense at this point? 😅

I wouldn't mind seeing more pre-Saw III Hoffman. Maybe see more of him doing the heavy lifting sort of work that Amanda couldn't do. Brief as it was, I did like his mid-credit appearance in Saw X. Or heck, maybe with a better script, you could give Dr. Gordon more to do than he had in Saw VII. He knew about Lynn, so maybe explore of Gordon's work behind the scenes?

The possibilities are endless if it's a prequel again. Saw X brought back a lot of goodwill to a franchise that desperately needed it, so hope they score another win.

And I hope to not follow a franchise that's over nine films in and still watch them if I clearly don't like any of them.

But some people like pleasure and pain, I suppose.

Saw X was the absolute worst in the series in my opinion. While I’ll always be a fan of more of these movies coming, get back on track. No sympathetic horror just give me good traps and horror.

I’ve seen everyone. This one was too long, too boring, and I hate what they did with jigsaw . That’s my biggest beef. A travesty. Jigsaw gets worse in every movie
It's just barely longer than Saw III, but alright.

While Saw X was definitely not as bad as some of the previous entries, I do think it's overrated, even for a Saw film.

In theory I liked the idea of presenting things from Jigsaw's point of view for a change, but this created two big issues for me.

A. It killed any suspension of disbelief and threw any sort of realism down the drain. To clarify, the series never really had one, especially after a while, but by explaining you how things worked and came to be, they completely destroyed any shred of it left.

B. It didn't have someone to root for. The movie wanted you to like Kramer more, but despite his beliefs, he was still a sadistic killer. And the victims were more or less pieces of garbage. A movie like that where you can't mentally take the place of the victims loses many major points narratively.

Also the traps were pretty crappy to be honest. It tried to be all this serious about showing us Jigsaw's ideology but they were mostly random really. Some of them were difficult, but others were completely impossible and genuinely idiotic. Like the one where a guy has to cut through his frickin skull, chop a large enough piece of his brain and put it in a scale. It's not just the fact that nobody could ever survive it without dying instantly, how would someone get a second chance and appreciate life even if he did succeed? His second chance would be to be brain dead or having dementia or being paralyzed? Like, there are some traps where people can escape from and some that seem to be made just so that the audience can enjoy some more torture porn. If they were made by one of his many apprentices or copycats I could understand, but he himself made such a big deal of the importance of them and most of them were really dumb and inconsistent.

Also it's a prequel and you kind of know how it ends up with the main character so there's not even any pretense suspense.

I think the movie's problem was that it tried to be more than it was in the previous entries and that eventually hurt it. I know people really liked it but for me it was like seeing an amateur playing in a professional team. Its weaknesses were far more apparent and visible because of that.

This is clearly directed to me which irked me but let me respond this with grace.

I haven't watched any Saw movie in theaters. The ones I bought in video were sold for a discount price, and it was when I was collecting and buying lots of movies in physical formats. I think there were already 5 movies at that time and i bought them at the same time, so of course I had to watch all of them. Saw 1 to 7 - those were the ones I bought in physical media.

The 8th/9th movie were released iirc, after the series had a break from its annual releases and I still have Saw in my list of movie franchises that I follow since I have the previous movies in my collection. So why not, endure more time for "pain", right?

The main reason why I watched these films in the first place was for the traps. But I can't ignore how awful the story was for the first nine films and I remember how I rolled my eyes everytime there was another film I didn't like. Fortunately, I liked the tenth film and I hope the 11th film doesn't suck.

When I watch 2 to 3 films from of a film series/franchise, I would probably watch the rest. Though this varies, I have seen the 3 recent Halloween films (online), but skipped the older films. Thats just me. Its not like I'm literally I'm in a Saw trap for you to label it "pain".

Fantastic news if true.

These rumors and the lack of any plot or confirmed cast has me nervous. What exactly is going on? Or is this getting delayed?

It seems Lionsgate cares about the critical reception from the last movie.

I don't think I Saw a delay coming for a Saw film.
