While Saw X was definitely not as bad as some of the previous entries, I do think it's overrated, even for a Saw film.
In theory I liked the idea of presenting things from Jigsaw's point of view for a change, but this created two big issues for me.
A. It killed any suspension of disbelief and threw any sort of realism down the drain. To clarify, the series never really had one, especially after a while, but by explaining you how things worked and came to be, they completely destroyed any shred of it left.
B. It didn't have someone to root for. The movie wanted you to like Kramer more, but despite his beliefs, he was still a sadistic killer. And the victims were more or less pieces of garbage. A movie like that where you can't mentally take the place of the victims loses many major points narratively.
Also the traps were pretty crappy to be honest. It tried to be all this serious about showing us Jigsaw's ideology but they were mostly random really. Some of them were difficult, but others were completely impossible and genuinely idiotic. Like the one where a guy has to cut through his frickin skull, chop a large enough piece of his brain and put it in a scale. It's not just the fact that nobody could ever survive it without dying instantly, how would someone get a second chance and appreciate life even if he did succeed? His second chance would be to be brain dead or having dementia or being paralyzed? Like, there are some traps where people can escape from and some that seem to be made just so that the audience can enjoy some more torture porn. If they were made by one of his many apprentices or copycats I could understand, but he himself made such a big deal of the importance of them and most of them were really dumb and inconsistent.
Also it's a prequel and you kind of know how it ends up with the main character so there's not even any pretense suspense.
I think the movie's problem was that it tried to be more than it was in the previous entries and that eventually hurt it. I know people really liked it but for me it was like seeing an amateur playing in a professional team. Its weaknesses were far more apparent and visible because of that.
