Scientist discovers way to burn water.

Actually the way this process works is the salt water is exposed to radio waves which break apart the bonds holding the molecules together. The hydrogen is then what actually burns, via this chemical reaction:

2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O

So, as you can see, it does turn back into water. Pretty much they're breaking it apart, just so that they can put it back together again.

Maximum Carnage is right about the salt/fresh water balance being disrupted, because they are starting with salt water and ending up with fresh. They need to find some way to re-salinate the water, but then it probably wouldn't evaporate. One more thing, we get salt by evaporating sea water(more desalination) and I doubt there is enough sodium and chlorine in the world to sustain an alternative reactionary method. There is rock salt though, and we could be mining on other planets in the future...the discussion goes on...

Excess salt build-up in your engine would sure be a problem. You could drive around all day and the go to your fuel tank cap and get some seasoning for your french fries.:woot:

i knew the hype was good for something... I learned something today. how nice

So terrorists are going to get their hands on this and threaten to ignite the worlds oceans.

so I guess this solves whether the microwave thingy in begins was realistic or not.

I didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if that's been brought up.

Now if only we could figure out a way to make the world make and use cars that ran on this.

:p

You can use electro-plating to cover the parts with a thin strip of titanium.

So a cancer researcher in Erie, Pennsylvania found a way to burn salt water.

Didn't Lake Erie catch fire once, or was that just a river that did that

I appreciate you wasting your breath, because I sure as heck wasn't going to waste mine. Once people think they are right on this board. That is it. I usually just go in a circle once, & then that is it.

Again appreciate it.

This won't hit the mass market for another 50 years.

 :csad:

Here ya go guys:

Focusing on the cancer cure portion of it:

Just wow. All I have to say.

Who his this guy, modern day Edison or Franklin or what?

ZOMG! Weere al guna diee!!!!!!!!oneone1!oneityoneoneone!

LOLZ LMAFO :d :f :drys

But, on a more serious note, most salt-water creatures can't survive in fresh water, that could disrupt the food chain, which could...

Well, I guess the gist of it is that we're all ****ed.

I'll have to side with saving seafood over humanity. Seafood tastes better

I want to smoke some water.:word:

so...the guys who are looking for a cure for cancer are spending there time figuring out ways to f**k around with water in new ways...very productive use of your time guys.
There are more scientists in the world, not just those guys.

maybe they use this as a weapon... turn a rain storm into a hail of hellfire & brimstone! hit the city with the radio frequency then ignite the whole city with a few well placed smart bombs MUAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

oh wait it doesnt rain salt water... nevermind...
