Marathoned Scream 1-4 with the wife the other day. Her first time watching the sequels and my first time watching them all in one sitting. Was so much fun. She's usually really great at guessing movie endings, but all the sequels (even 3) kept her guessing up to the end. Was really fun to watch it all with someone who didn't know all the twists. She thoroughly enjoyed it all, with 2 possibly being her new favorite.

Really got me falling in love with the franchise again. I'm so excited for 5. Very intrigued by the

Came across this neat little video that takes a look at Scream 3, how it conforms to (and informs us) about classic trilogy structure and how there's a bit more there under the surface than the sheer parody of itself it usually gets labeled as.



I still definitely think it's the least scary of the first 3, but I also think it doesn't quite get the appreciation it deserves. Considering it had its hands tied behind its back by the studio in terms of not being able to go all-out with the violence and losing core elements of Williamson's original idea in the process, Neve Campbell's limited availability etc.-- I think the film made a solid effort to wrap things up in a bow in a way that is very in keeping with the series' meta angle, and is just a fun watch even if it's a bit more Scooby Doo. Something about tying Maureen's past to Hollywood always felt very right to me.

I completely agree. I rewatched all 4 of these films with my wife over the past week or so. I do feel the original trilogy is strong, and I liked the way Scream 3 ended things. With everything they had working against them, I still think they came up with a solid trilogy-capper.

However, while I really liked Scream 4 the first few times I saw it, I didn't realize how much I've soured on the film since then. When you watch it in line with the other films, it really does feel disconnected from them, which should be somewhat expected since it was made 10 years after Scream 3. But I now find Scream 4 to be the weakest of the films for a number of reasons.

The biggest thing I took away from this recent viewing is how UGLY the film is. That weird dark, blurry, "vaseline" filter they used really hurts the look of the film. Everything looks small and cheap. Gone are the vibrant colors and striking cinematography of the original films. I also feel Scream 4 has the weakest musical score out of all the films (lacking several of the iconic motifs), the weakest killers/reveal, and I hate the ridiculous tacked-on hospital ending. There are definitely still things I like about it, but overall I find it to be the most boring and least fun to watch of the Scream films.
