Ryan Murphy & His ‘Glee’ Co-Creators Get Fox Series Order For Comedy-Horror Anthology ‘Scream Queens’
by Nellie Andreeva

American Horror Story meets Glee. In their first big move on the scripted side at Fox, Fox TV Group chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman have given a 15-episode straight-to-series order to one of their most trusted creators at 20th Century Fox TV, Ryan Murphy. With Glee wrapping its run on Fox, the network has ordered comedy-horror anthology Scream Queens, from Glee creators Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. This marks the second straight-to-series order for an anthology series for Murphy and Falchuk on the heels of FX greenlighting an American Crime Story spinoff from the duo’s hugely successful horror anthology series American Horror Story.

The first installment of Scream Queens, created by Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan, revolves around a college campus which is rocked by a series of murders. 20th Century Fox Television and Murphy’s studio-based Murphy Television produce, with Murphy, Falchuk, Brennan and Dante Di Loreto executive producing.

“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing Scream Queens,”said Murphy who revealed details about the setup of the series. “We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to Dana and Gary for their enthusiastic support.”

Longtime 20th TV toppers Walden and Newman said that getting a new series created by Murphy on Fox was a top priority in their first season overseeing the network. “We loved every element of the pitch for this show — the genre-bending concept, which blends true horror with big comedic moments; the diverse and unforgettable characters and reuniting the phenomenal creative team that delivered Glee,” they said, adding that the straight-to-series order is “a huge commitment and an expression of our faith in Ryan.”
Thank God it's an anthology.

I like that each week will be a new story, that way you needn't sit through any plot that doesn't interest you.

Not each week, each season.

They think they're creating the horror-comedy genre? It's existed in movies for years and two of the genres biggest franchises Scream and Evil Dead are getting television series. Although this does sound good and honestly it does sound better than the MTV Scream series.

Each week? Doesn't it say that it'll follow 2 female leads and their story each season? Or am I missing something?

I think they're talking about it being a new genre when they refer to it as comedy-horror, rather than horror-comedy. Though honestly, I have no idea what the difference would be.

I guess this is RM new thing. If this is a success and is good, I think it would be a smart idea for every 4 seasons or so to have a team up.

I don't trust him anymore. I'm sure season 1 will be good...then it will suck.

It being anthology is the prime reason I'm into it. No continuity that they have to deal with year after year. Something new to play with every year so RM doesn't get bored/careless as he's wont to do. It's why I'm still into AHS at the point where I was more or less tired of just about everything happening on Glee.

I'm just disappointed that this isn't an announcement for Season 3 of the Scream Queens acting competition show.

I loved season 1 of AHS but I saw half of season 2 and just couldn't get into it. I didn't even watch season 3 or the current one. Even if this new show is an anthology series, I still feel like season 1 will be great but then the rest will suck.

An anthology horror show? Fountain of ideas, this man.

The most surprising thing about this isn't that he thinks he's creating an entire genre, it's that American Horror Story is apparently dead serious for real scary stuff for him.

maybe more emphasis on comedy than horror? I dont know

How much you want to bet that some Glee cast gets moved to this series?

I don't know. He hasn't used them in anything else. He is probably as bored with them as they are of him.

On Murphy's wikipedia page, there's a chart of all the actors he's worked with before on more than one project, and barely any of the Glee cast members are on it. I'd put more money on Matt Bomer (Glee, The New Normal, The Normal Heart and soon-to-be AHS) being involved than the likes of Lea Michele, Chris Colfer or Darren Criss.

Like the Wayans brothers?

The thing about the stuff from the Wayans brothers is that it's so spoof that you can't really even consider it horror anymore.

Probably the closest thing that exists to what I imagine they're going for here is the Scream movies.

Yes, but way more campy than Scream. I can see this project as the spiritual successor to Glee with Horror replacing the sometimea heavy "drama" elements from Glee. Glee would have serious subject matter (bullying, suicide, death) in one scene than have a character act cartoonish in the next.

Emma Roberts & Jamie Lee Curtis To Star In Fox’s ‘Scream Queens’ Horror Series
by Nellie Andreeva

Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis have been tapped for leading roles in Scream Queens, Fox’s comedy-horror series created by Glee creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The 15-episode first installment of the anthology series, slated for next fall, revolves around a college campus that is rocked by a series of murders.

Both Roberts and Curtis have solid horror credentials — Roberts was in Scream 4 and most recently in Murphy and Falchuk’s American Horror Story on FX, with co-starring roles in the Coven and Freak Show installments. Because of her ties to Murphy and Falchuk via AHS, Roberts had been rumored to star in Scream Queens from the moment the straight-to-series project was announced. Curtis earned a Scream Queen moniker early in her career with her breakout starring turn in John Carpenter’s Halloween that led to a string of popular horror movies.

With the casting of Curtis, Murphy continues to lure to TV great but underutilized actresses of a certain age with meaty, showy roles, which he has done successfully on AHS with Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates.

Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan executive produce Scream Queens alongside fellow Glee exec producer Dante Di Loreto for 20th Century Fox TV.

How has no one posted this yet?!? :atp:

Never liked Glee, but I loved the Normal Heart and I just started getting into AHS with the new season (and really like it).

Will this mean Roberts won't be back for AHS year 5?

Probably not since they would be shooting around the same time.

But imma need Ryan to approach SMG about joining.
