Screw The Middle East And Alaska, Bugs Are The Future Of Oil

I SQUISH YOUR BUGS! I SQUISH THEM DOWN!
It had to be done...

that's awesome, but it still doesn't solve the environmental impact problem. If they were converting biological waste to petrol at least there'd be less methane... but woodchips?
so we just gotta destroy forests now instead of mining? Hopefully crop wastes would be enough to supply these bugs, without the need for further deforestation.

its cheaper than it is now idiot.

He may have been saying "dayum that's cheap!" But who knows.

Or they could just, you know, plant new fields of trees. Which we really should be doing anyway...

He was probably referring to waste from the lumber industry. And deforestation is only a problem when not done unchecked and without planting new trees. The problem with cutting down, say, the rainforest is the companies there sweep through, take all the trees, and leave a trail of pollution in their wake without planting any saplings. You can log sustainably very easily, and the majority of companies, at least in North America, do.

And why they keep talking about bugs? I think people have an idea what "bacteria" or "microbe" means by now, and it's easy to look up if you don't. This is the Times, they don't need to write as if first graders are reading it.

This is seriously awesome.
