A season finale, a Josh Keaton quote, & summer plans for "The Spectacular Spider-Man"
by Jay in Marvel at 02:29 PM on 2008.06.13

School's almost out ... the seasons continue to change ... the Lakers are toast ... yes, all good things do come to an end -- but it's nice to know they'll all be back AND better than ever. Well, we hope the Lakers will improve. But "better than ever" is definitely the case for "The Spectacular Spider-Man," which ends its first season with an all-new, action-packed episode entitled "Nature vs. Nurture" this Saturday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. ET/PT on CW4Kids.

Coincidentally, "The Spectacular Spider-Man" voice cast recorded its final episode of the series' second season on Thursday, June 12 -- culminating another 13-episode arc that promises more familiar characters, unprecedented action and shocking twists than viewers can begin to imagine (though message board participants have certainly outdone themselves in their speculation). Even the cast -- which includes self-professed comic book geeks like Josh Keaton (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), James Arnold Taylor (Harry Osborne), Steve Blum (Green Goblin, Chameleon) -- admitted they were caught off-guard when reading the script prior to entering the recording booth.

"This show has actually gotten me watching Saturday morning cartoons again," Keaton said. "I'm in front of the TV with my bowl of cereal every Saturday morning and, even though I'm about 13 episodes ahead of everyone else – I already know what's going to happen – I still love
waking up and watching because it's so much fun to see how it all comes together. And if you liked the first season, well I'll say this: You may think you know what happened in the first season, but the second season is going to change all that. Prepare to be surprised."

"Nature vs. Nurture" opens on Thanksgiving as Aunt May Parker is released from the hospital – but Venom has no intention of letting May and Peter Parker enjoy a family celebration. Knowing all of Spider-Man's secrets – even some Pete isn't consciously aware of – Venom threatens to destroy Pete and everyone he loves most. Will Pete embrace his destiny in time to defeat this new arch-nemesis?

"Nature vs. Nurture" is written by Kevin Hopps and directed by series producer/supervising director Victor Cook.

Prior to the premiere of "Nature vs. Nurture," CW4Kids will air a repeat of "Persona" at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT.

"The Spectacular Spider-Man" was the top-rated broadcast network series last Saturday, June 7, continuing to build on its already significant ratings (according to Nielsen). Those ratings have grown with the premiere of each original episode this season, easily trumping the competition -- which is now taking the if-you-can't-beat-'em approach. As further testament to the series' drawing power, the 9:30 a.m. "The Spectacular Spider-Man" encore presentation was the second-most watched show among broadcast network series last week.

Starting next Saturday, June 21, CW4Kids will make some changes to its lineup -- although "The Spectacular Spider-Man" will remain unchanged, airing each Saturday morning at 9:30 & 10:00 a.m. Moreover, CW4Kids will air the entire 13-episode first season in order -- two episodes at a time, and running for seven consecutive weeks.

Joining the lineup are three highly-rated series from another network: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward," "Chaotic" and "Yu-Gi-Oh! GX," and triumphantly returning to the CW4Kids lineup is the five-time Emmy Award winning series "The Batman."

For June and July, the CW4Kids schedule will air each Saturday as follows:

7:00 a.m. -- Will & Dewitt
7:30 a.m. -- Magi-Nation
8:00 a.m. -- Tom and Jerry Tales
8:30 a.m. -- Tom and Jerry Tales
9:00 a.m. -- Chaotic
9:30 a.m. -- The Spectacular Spider-Man
10:00 a.m. -- The Spectacular Spider-Man
10:30 a.m. -- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward
11:00 a.m. -- Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
11:30 a.m. -- The Batman

YEa i believe it was already posted in a thread or two.

oh why was nature vs nurture anti climactic climax to you?

Well, after being built up over most of the season, Brock gets beaten in 20 seconds and we don't find out what happens to him afterwards. It was neat how Spidey did it, though.

Yea it was, as i said in the episode thread maybe possibly there was a scene cut and will be included in the dvd set, we know they said the volume sets will have deleted scenes added in. Or if not that we can hope when we do see brock again in season two and if he is in jail or ravencroft to get a flash back of spidey taking him there or the cops finding him on the roof and he was talking on crazy things so the locked him up.

I thought Season 1 was good. When I first heard bout the show, I was thinking it was gonna suck and not be any good. So when I saw my first episode, I was surprised that it was the opposite of what I expected. I'm hoping Season 2 will be better. I wanna see more Venom and Brock. I think it'd be kinda cool to see a What If episode with a dream-like ep. that goes inside Brock's head and shows events from his perspective (like make Spidey the bad guy in Eddie's dream). That'd be kinda cool to show that yeah, in the villains eyes they are the heroes and Spidey's the bad guy.

Well, when we see him next they could introduce Ann Weying as Eddie' new girlfriend who eventually leaves him due to something Peter/Spider-Man related.

They gave Eddie like 3 revamps with new reasons to hate Peter in the comics, because they realized he had lousy reasons to begin with. All three failed though since no one wants to make Venom out to be a true criminal like Norman or Otto, they want to keep him as a psycho killer.

I'm not too crazy about the animation design for the characters. (*I'm more into classic Romita Spidey instead of Ultimate appearance*) On the other hand, everything else makes up for it. I love the animation, the action, the theme song (*best theme since the '60s incarnation*), the voices, the storylines, and most of all, "Spidey's trademark flare for humor and wit". (*ARE WE LISTENING AT ALL OUT THERE, SAM SHAIMI??*) Spidey's beyond out my favorite character. After suffering through the last two live action movies, I'm so grateful to see him finally being done justice. I just watched the Vulture episode this morning and was laughing my ass off. This series reminds me why I began collecting Spider-Man in the first place. Unlike the films, he strives to keep his idenity secret and he isn't a mute. Can anybody tell me when this series is coming to DVD? I'll be first on line to get it!

Spectacular season, truly.... for me:

SPECTACULAR
12 Intervention
11 Group Therapy
13 Nature vs. Nurture
9 The Uncertainty Principle
8 Reaction
7 Catalysts

REALLY GOOD
10 Persona
3 Natural Selection
5 Competition
4 Market Forces
2 Interactions

OK episodes
1 Survival of the Fittest Comparing it to the others, I think the pilot was the weakest but still

This is the Best Spider-Man Series Ever!!!

SSM >> 90s TAS >>>>>>>>>>other shows
tell me there's something better, go ahead... try
What about, "6 Invisible Hand?":cwink:

I think this show is absolutely spectacular. With the characters they have established now, development will be amazing.

I think that it was great! It had a lot of cool elements from the comics that made me smile, and the action sequences are just so intense! I love it! :)

Yeah you're right! I missed it, but it's indeed, spectacular.... just edited my post...

Indeed, and that's one of the reasons why I think season 2 will be very intense.

Season one was great, but I think Eddie went evil over a few minor problems. He could have gotten another job. lol. But that didn't take much away from the season. Great job, looking foreward to season 2

And Electro got pissed because he couldn't drink coffee. Still an awesome show.

The first season of SSM has been a wild ride. And to think, Peter's been in school for only 3 months! Who knows what the rest of the year will bring? Maybe the next season will take place during the winter (if the show progresses "seasonally")? SSM in snow--now that would be something.

Electro really kicked ass in this show! SSMs' Electro is leaps and bounds ahead of TASs' Electro. I mean, he was only in one episode and was the son of the Red Skull. That's just not right, though, I really did enjoy the episode.

I believe the first two episodes were the weakest in the show, but both were still really great (I'd give them 3 out of 5 stars). I remember after the show premiered there were a couple of people *****ing about Peter's mole, how Aunt May was too hot, Liz was Mexican, the characters looked like Hasbro toys, etc.

Then the Lizard episode came and that shut everyone up

Every episode is basically my favorite, but as I said, if I really really had to choose, I'd choose Nature vs. Nurture.

I still don't get why so many are mad over how TAS revamped Electro. They took a thug char and made him the world class threat a guy who has mastery over electricity SHOULD be. Why would a guy with that kind of power waste his time with robbing banks when he should be threatening the UN over taking out the world satellite system or something?

I really liked TAS Electro, but he was very very underused in that show.

Well, how could they top him destroying SHIELD and nearly bringing the world to its knees?

True, but that could be why alot of us didn't think Electro in TAS was amazing. He did something huge in his first appearance. He should have started off average and then worked his way up.

how Aunt May was too hot

Some people should try to read a little bit of USM once in a while... NOT with Immonen though... that guy is good, but Aunt May takes like 20 years when he draws her! :woot: At least in SSM Aunt May doesn't seem young enough to enter in a relationship with Gwen's father...

And Electro got pissed because he couldn't drink coffee.

Just let see how you react when you can't drink cofee, nor eat something normally, nor watching TV, nor walking in the street without having people look at you like some kind of freak, nor running without having some stupid self-proclaimed super-hero attack you for no reason. I know I would get REALLY pissed!

I like that they aren't making May a walking cadaver in this version, though I do think it would've been better to have her be in her late 40s like Ultimate May is. Heck, I wouldn't even mind if May and Ben still had color in their hair. I mean even in the USM flashbacks to when Richard and Mary were alive they had grey hair!

Not to mention probably never having sex...
