Comics Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1

This was a fantastic issue. Love the cover. Love the interior artwork. And the story was pretty intense and romantic all at the same time. Definitely a book that every Spider-Man fan should be reading. Now the only thing I'm left asking is, "How come they couldn't write good stories like this back in the 90's?" At least involving Pete and the MJ marriage. This is probably the best arguement of WHY the two should stay married and ALWAYS be married.

Great job to the creative team and hopefully these guys land on a Spider-Man book or miniseries sometime. Slott gets first crack at ASM! :woot:

Just read it and I loved it.

Not a lot more I can say really apart from i'd advise anyone who's not read this yet to get hold of it.

My LCS sucks. They tell me the annual is not included in my SSM subscription and I have to subscribe the annual to get this. Damn it

same here. although i do have annuals in my pull list and i was just able to grab this issue yesterday.

This is one of the best Spidey stories I've read in a long long time. Matt Fraction is becoming my favorite new writer due to Punisher War Journal and now this. This is honestly the first Spider-man/MJ story that I thought was actually heartfelt and made me reminiss about the good times I've had with my gf. Awesome, awesome issue.

while reading this, it made me relate to my wife so much because i know she would do anything for me. as a matter of fact, after reading the issue, i had such a smile on my face that my wife asked me why i was smiling so much and i gave her a brief recap of the issue.

what a great issue. just wanted so sing more praise.

Finally got round to reading this Saturday night.

Great issue if for no other reason that it just goes to prove to any detractors that the marriage definitely can work and be AS meaningful as a marriage in real life. Don’t think I go as far to say it was the best Spidey story in the last five years, but it did do a lot to seemingly bolster the long-term security of the marriage. Which of course is a good thing.

I’m not married, but anyone who is in a relationship can relate to the issue. It makes you feel good, what more could you ask from a Spidey book? So all round great stuff. Loved the flashbacks.

Couple of grumbles-

1) I know MJ has been exposed to her fair share of web slinging over the years from PP, but to open her eyes and find herself perched atop the highest point of Manhattan, I dunno- I just get the feeling she would not be THAT thrilled about it, and instead be saying- ’Get me the hell down!’. I realise this would have wrecked the mood, and hence was avoided.

2) MJ not minding about the black costume anymore is bugging me. I know this is symptomatic of the initial BIB issues rather than this annual, but still it’s annoying.

1) She's been taken up there before. She's been with Peter for years. Dropped off buildings. She knows as long as Peter is there she's more than safe. The top of the Empire is sort've their "Spot" around this time. She really isn't too afraid of anything that goes on around them anymore. She's become much stronger than the average wife. Susan Storm Richards noted this about her as well. A simple dose of heights is nothing to a wife who was accosted by several members of Peter's rouge's gallery.

2) Why would it be annoying? She's being an understanding wife. She knows why he's wearing it. She knows what it symbolizes. She's grown PAST the whole Venom issue. Remember Maximum Carnage? She even nursed Eddie back to health. Remember Planet of the symbiotes? Same deal. She's a human being. And having her have a static problem with the black costume would indicate a MENTAL PROBLEM. I'm GLAD they write her to be "ok" with it now. :o

Must be having an off day, don remember MJ being taken up there prior..
Issue no's?

Not only did this issue prove that the MJ/Peter relationship is a good thing, it also proves what kind of stories can be told now that Pete unmasked. I know a lot of people hate the fact that he unmasked, but I for one am enjoying some of the fresh stories that is coming out because of it, like this one.

I finally got around to reading it and damn it, this was the best Spidey I've read in a loooong time. The writing was damn good and the art was very nice eye candy. Hopefully we'll see more of this duo sometime soon. And I'm not really the sappy type, but damn it this was one of the most romantic stories I've read. It got me a li'l misty eyed.

Yeah i'm hoping that this Annual was foreshading them as being the new Sensational team after OMD.

I'd have no problem with that.

I'm no Punisher fan, so this is my first exposure to Fraction. Is this a good indication of what he turns out on a regular basis??? If it is, then heck, I say give him the flagship. Or Spec. Or FNSM. Or any combination of the three. :yay:

Everything he's writing right now is like friend gold. Punisher is great and so is Immortal Iron Fist. If you aren't picking those up, you should.

I kind of have to agree with Wolverine25th on this one, bub. The first couple of issues of War Journal were pretty solid and nice Civil War tie in's. But after that the book has kind of declined for me. I do dig the artwork in it though.

But I'm also banking on Fraction getting Sensational. I'm not going to hold out my hopes huge but it just seems like a logical thing. Fraction and Larocca would be awesome for that title. Sensational, since Sacasa has taken over, has been the consistently best Spider-Man title. Hands down.

Read it. An amazing issue.

And like many have said, the best Spidey issue I've read in a LONG TIME not counting Reign, or even counting Reign.

I'd say this the best Spidey story of the last 3-4 years. Easily better than Sins Past, The Other, Spidey Unmasked, Civil War or ASM BS BIB issues (though Sensational has been doing well the other three titles have been blowing BIB).

But this was just a simple beautiful issue of Spider-Man that wrote Peter and MJ very well and a great point on why the marriage is a great aspect of the comics and should stick around.

After reading this, do you really want Joey Q's ****ing BS about them forgetting they were married and starting to date again?

I think not.

It was a really good story, excellent in fact. But this one story alone doesn't really vindicate the idea of the marriage.

I think stories like this support having a marriage over a stupid mindwipe so Peter will be dating his wife and not knowing it BS the Q wants to pull, though!

They been married for 25 years , This issue was just the cherry on top of the sunday .

Peter & MJ are prefect together .

I think the past twenty years of stories kind of vindicate the marriage...:yay:

Amen.

Also, I'm one of the Spidey fans who really got into comics with a married Peter Parker. It's never felt cumbersome or hindering to me. I've never thought, "Wow....he'd be cooler if weren't married".

Really, the options for un-marrying him are so stupid and counter-productive that it would n't make much sense to seperate them. You can kill off MJ, you can have them divorce, or you can do a mindwipe. Either way, you just alienate the fans who have been reading since the late 80's by making the past 30 years of stories redundant. The last time they tried anythign as stupid was when they revealed Ben Reilly to be the real Peter Parker...making it so that we had all been reading the adventures of another character for the previous 20 years.

Issue no's?

He took her to the top of a tall building in Spect #241. I dont think it was the ESB, I think that was in the background.

since it was a flashback could it have been the trade center?
