September '08 Solicitations

Final Crisis sounds pretty cool, though I think it's ****ed up that we have to wait 4 months for Morrison to deliver what he had promised from the beginning.

Also: Secret Six!! Can't wait for that. I'm surprised it took so long for this to happen.

I'm curious about who the other two Secret Six members will be. They ought to get a major powerhouse on there.

For me:

Booster Gold (depending on who the next full writer is, I may or not not get Dixon's fill-in)
Fables
Green Lantern
Manhunter
Northlanders (haven't decide if I'll keep buying this in singles or wait for the trades)
Wonder Woman

So all those rumours about art problems on Final Crisis turned out to be true. LITG can feel vindicated.

I'm a bit disappointed that the focus in Northlanders will no longer be Sven. I like Sven a lot.

Secret Six :(

Give more Suicide Squad.

I find myself more and more apathetic to DC's line of comics.

You and the rest of the world. I've pretty much abandoned all but 3 of DC's major characters' comics. The only truly interesting stuff is coming from the fringes at the moment.

Quite a turn around. I mean 2 years ago, they were kicking Marvel's ass across the board, then One Year Later happened and it all went to ****. It has to be said though, that the good DC comics right, are really good but therein lies the problem, the disparity in quality. It's either really good or really ****ty.

I feel that way about both houses these days. Kinda sad really. GREAT books and CRAP books, no gray area.

There is this new emergence of what I'm going to call "popcorn comics". They're comics that are good, not great but serve the capacity of entertainment first and foremost. Comics like X-Force and HULK on the Marvel side and Batman and The Outsiders and Superman/Batman on the DC side. Not the greatest comics, but consistently entertaining.

And you know, I would MUCH more prefer that than event comics or gritty realism comics.

I read comics for entertainment. Shocking, I know.

I feel like Nightwing is a pretty grey comic. It's like seeing a great actor in a mediocre movie.

The only negative aspect I can think of is it might bring the genre down to a more superficial level as of the 90's, but really, I don't care. It might also change the perception of comics to the general public, but most of them think they're kids stuff anyway, even at this day and age.

Yeah, you know, I'm going to amend what I said before, DC has a lot of comics with loads of potential that just are plain and simple mediocre. Nightwing being one of them. Sure, it's hard to get away from Batman-Lite, but he's a wildly popular character even in the mainstream. He really needs a push towards prominence and no, that doesn't mean make him Batman.

The Flash was probably the worst in that respect. How can you not make the Flash awesome? I guess you could start by asking Bilson, DeMeo, and, sadly, Waid. Peyer's doing a good job, but I think it's kind of meaningless at this point because so many people quit during Waid's run and haven't bothered to try it again.

I still stand by the fact that I think Waid's short run wasn't even that bad. I like the kids, but to be honest, I can do without them.

I didn't think it was too bad either, but it definitely didn't love up to the implied promise that it would be as good as his earlier Flash stuff. His previous run is arguably the best and most defining period in Wally West's history.

Have you read Peyer's issues, Doc? I think he strikes a much better balance between the kids and Wally than Waid did.

It's not like he really gave the book a real chance, he was gone before they could get enough for the trade. That type of half ass commitment from creators is going to be the downfall of the comics industry. You can say what you want about Johns or Bendis, but at least they stick around, for better or worse.

Well, to be fair, I think Waid bowed out because of all the negative backlash his run created, at least to some extent. And, given his runs on Flash, FF, Captain America, and various other things, I don't think Waid has anything to prove in the dedication department. He usually sticks with his characters for a while if editors'll let him.

I think that had to do more with him taking over as EIC of Boom! Studios. I'm not going to buy that he left because people weren't worshiping the ground he walked on as writer of The Flash, especially since the backlash wasn't even that bad.

I'm sure even an idiot like Didio would allow Waid all the time in the world to get his story out.

Personally I agree, I like the kid's as characters, but frnakly I don't like the Impulse-like rapid aging fear. I'm fairly positive the audience knows that no writer or editor is going to take these kids away from Wally and Linda. Thats not what the book is about. The Flash is not about tragedy, he is about triumph. Slap some codenames on the brats and let them have some fun.

For Nightwing, I do not beleive Batman himself is necessary, but it is nice to see Tim and Barbara, two characters who are acutally close to hi mand make sense storywise to interact with him without being a sales gimmick, which is what Batman often turns into. Would be nice to see him interact with Wally and Roy more, but I guess that's what Titans is currently failing at.

Speakign of Titans why does every girl in it have nasty, huge, trailer park, Heather from Rock of Love one, hair?
