Sequels Sequel News Thread

Yeah Routh really blew it, he might never recover now. Who knows when he will get another job. It's just over before it started for Routh. He's like Screech from Saved By the Bell now. It's so hopeless. :whatever:

The guy has plenty of time to get the ball rolling, maybe he's taking a break before shooting the Man of Steel. That can't be though, since they aren't doing a sequel. :cwink:

Maybe they should just cast Ben Affleck now, and give up on Routh. :oldrazz:

You know one interesting thing about Routh if they don't do a sequel is that he becomes the "transional" Superman that allows audiences to get past Reeve - as hard as that is. If they wait now and reboot in a decade or so the new Superman actor will be freed from having to be a physical clone of Reeve.

Not that I personally think the actor following Reeve needed to be a clone but Singer and WB apparently thought audiences needed that.

BTW, its not about giving up on Routh its about giving it up for Superman. Why did Superman get second class treatment when it came to casting the lead when Spiderman, Batman, X-Men all get leads who can, who'd of thuink - actually act. I am talking of course McGuire, Bale and Jackman to name 3.

I forgot Routh said that. Shooting won't be for at least 6 months? They don't even have a script yet. Hmm...

uhm, Wasn't Routh still doing promotions for the movie until November of last year? Kind of hard to go on auditions or film if you're doing PA, and voice overs for games and cartoons.

You're preaching to the choir man, in case you didn't know, my whole post was pure sarcasm. :cwink:

guys give Routh a break, he's getting married this year, probably delaying projects till after the honeymoon.

Joel Silver mentioned very briefly in an interview here that the WB is still moving forward with another Superman

Producer Joel Silver showed up at San Francisco's WonderCon over the weekend expecting to tout his upcoming supernatural film The Reaping, but it took less than six minutes for a fan to implore him to reconsider the departure of Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon as writer and director of Silver's proposed Wonder Woman movie.

Later, Silver told SCI FI Wire that the Wonder Woman project had a long way to go. "We're not there yet," Silver said in an interview. "I mean, look, ... for a while these Marvel Comics [movies] have been kicking the DC Comics [movies'] ass. You know? I mean all these characters that just keep coming out. And, look, they revived Batman. They're making a new Batman now. It should be great. They're making a new Superman, and they're going to do Justice League, all the characters, which I think is a cool idea. And we're going to get Wonder Woman to work."

Whedon was famously hired to draft a new look at the Amazonian superhero, but quit the project a month ago after failing to win over Silver and Warner Brothers with his take on the franchise. Warner, meanwhile, bought a Wonder Woman spec script from newcomers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, which set the story during World War II, the original period of the comics series.

Silver denied that the spec script would be the basis for the movie. "I don't think so," he said, adding that he never wanted to make a period film. "We didn't buy it for that. There were some good ideas in it, but it was out there, and we wanted to just kind of not have it floating around. We wanted just to acquire it and keep it."

As for how the project will move forward without Whedon? "We'll make it work," Silver said. "You know, it's going to [work]. ... We just couldn't figure it out, but we'll get there." But for now, Silver said he's not actively looking for a new writer or director. "No, not yet. We're just ... talking about it, and we'll get back to it soon."

He didn't say they are making a Superman sequel. He said they are making a new Superman. Oh no Routh is off the project

Singer is no longer directing

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D JK

According to "Singer's vision", Superman now has a completed trilogy. Superman I, Superman II, and Superman Returns. So why's he making more?

Other than a few homages to Donner I don't see that much of a connection with his vague use of history. Many things that happened in Donner's Superman did not happen in SR. All we know from the Donner history is that Lex still likes land and flying is still the safest way to travel.

SR is a Superman film that stands on its own. Singer put his foot in his mouth by mentioning the vague history stuff, but honestly it feels like a new movie to me.

I think Superman Returns did tie up the loose ends unlaced by the Donner films. I think it accomplished this feat while at the same time creating a jump off point for a new trilogy.

Superman I, II, Returns

Superman Returns, Untitled Sequel II, Untitled Sequel III.

Hehe, that way Returns can tie 2 trilogies together.

What loose ends needed to be tied up from the Donner movies?

Will Rocky the truck driver enact revenge on Superman due to the diner confrontation? Will Superman aqcuire another cellophane S? Wait...it didn't answer my questions!?

Hahaha. The loss of that cellophane S was weighing on a lot of peoples minds.

The best was Superman's ability to creat a block of ice that looks exactly like him.

I dont remember that one. He also has the ability to wipe somebody's memory with a single kiss. And also turn back the hands of time.

I believe one of the Zod and Co ran at him and tried to tackle him but he was really made out of ice and crumbled?

Yes I remember that but I thought it was just a hologramic image of him and when they tried to strike him they hit a wall of ice.
