Shameless

Addiction in general is indeed a grey area, but there are a very large number of alcoholics out there who still show at least some semblance of concern for or interest in their family, even while being in denial about their disease or refusing to get help. Frank has shown me no redeeming character trait throughout the entire course of the show that tells me he deserves any of my empathy. He strikes me as someone who was always something of a narcissistic a-hole, even when he was young.

I do feel for Carl, though, of course.

So we're ignoring when he took the fall for Carl last season, when he certainly didn't have to. And his father-son outing with Lip after his graduation? There are a bunch of other examples, but I'm on my phone at work, and those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Yea, Frank obviously loves his kids. He's an ADDICT. All of his abhorrent behavior while not excused by are certainly a direct result of his addiction and compulsion to support that addiction. He's shown plenty of times that he does actually care about these kids. I think people aren't realizing the state of mind that addicts are in. I've been there plenty of times so its something I completely sympathize and empathize with.

It is hard to tell though with Frank. He is an addict, but he is also so exceedingly selfish, even when sober. He always puts himself before his kids and has ruined everyone of their lives to varying degrees, certainly Fiona's. The fact that he tried to send them all to foster care out of spite also looks really, really bad.

Carl is going through the rite of passage each does: Caring for Frank until he betrays that trust. We saw it happen with Debbie. We will see it happen again.

Agreed.

Well my point is that even when he has been sober he's still in addict mode. Hes never actually been clean and sober on the show. I mean fully detoxed and everything. Unless you have gone through all of the withdrawals and detoxed you are still basically in addict mode and your thinking is still entirely flawed and self centered. Everything bad Frank has ever done on the show really has just been to get money. Mainly to support himself and his addiction. And also about sending them to foster care, he was completely trashed when that happened as well and he didn't even seem to remember it. I'm not saying its an excuse at all but it's still behavior that's coming as a result of being ****ed up.

Hope this season picks up and throws some curve balls at us. Not even through the new ep and feel like Fiona is about to **** her man's brother and its feeling pretty obvious Lip is gonna end up droppin out or something. Oh wait, yup Fiona is being Fiona now. Big surprise. What I was digging was juxtaposition of Mike's family life vs Fiona's and how her brother totally called that that kind of 9-5 ordinary life isn't for her. I agree with him about everybody being addicts too, we all are just filling voids. It's obvious no matter how in denial Fiona may be she is the daughter of her father and mother. Honestly, I really hope they introduce some sort of mental instability in Fiona. The scenes with Lip and the flash mobs are really cool just symbolizing how he too is not one of these people. It's just how it is. He was a genius where he's from, here it's the real world and while he has the potential to do something great with his life he is just incapable of the patience and work it takes. It's all about the quick buck for him which if he was to learn to channel correctly he could really do something great but as this episode set out to prove with Fiona, that she is an addict in her own way, so is Lip. Ian is the exception it seems. Not immune to dysfunction but a lot more adaptable to ordinary, real life situations and structure. Frank is a piece of **** with what he's doing to Samantha who I ****ing LOVE! She is great and was only in this episode and I feel so bad for her. I hate that she probably won't be sticking around cuz well, who would? I do hope she will become a bigger part of the show and eventually a regular somehow though. All in all, while being a bit depressing its still great just not season 2 or 3 great. Gotta little more respect for the dude Debbie is "dating" he made it seem like he doesn't want to actually do anything with her which makes me like him a bit more. Last week I thought Chris Hansen was gonna pop up any damn time but maybe this dude, who actually seems like an ok dude. I mean, he loves Eraserhead, at least he has great taste. It's just completely childish and stupid to get involved with a 13 year old girl like this. She does seen really mature for her age but still, dude is playing with fire right now and it is quite disturbing. I hope nothing happens there for real. I hope at some point he sits Debbie down and is like "We can't be physical with each other Debbie, we can only be friends" or something along those lines but ugh I just feel like he's gonna give in to one of her advances in the near future and ugh I just don't like even thinking about it. Dude just needs to stop. He's gonna end up doing 5-10 at least

The Fiona thing was very obvious I will agree but I think that Lip may actually stay in school the last scene with him receiving a 'C' on his paper and his expression makes me feel like he'll see this as the challenge he has always needed. The whole Debbie thing is a bit hard to watch its like dude WTF are you thinking. I really hope Kevin and Veronica find some financial luck cause four babies is gonna be hell, and I cant wait for the eventual Mickey and Ian reunion.

I also agree that Lip is gonna rise to the challenge. He only got a 'C' after working his ass off and realizes he has to work much harder. His story is the one I'm most interested in right now.

Fiona's addicted to the chaos she was raised in. Try as she might, she'll never be able to get rid of that part of herself.

I feel for Lip, he's actually trying. He's actually buckling down and doing what he needs to do to, but he just can't seem to catch a break. It looks like in next weeks episode he goes back home for a bit and gets a little tough love from Kev and Mandy.

The Debbie thing is still sketchy as hell. Whether or not this guy wants to sleep with her or not, you can't let a 13 year old girl wearing a skimpy night gown, sleep alone with you in your apartment.

It seems even though Frank stayed away from Samantha, she's just as screwed up as the rest of the Gallagher clan. What type of woman offers up her liver to a man she just met a day ago and tries to bone em while her son "sleeps" only feet away? I'll tell ya who, a Gallagher with severe abandonment/daddy issues. If Samantha can get any man to stick around it will make the fact that her father didn't stick around a little less painful. Or so she thinks.

Yea this whole Debbie thing is just disturbing. It's like they're trying to get us to like the dude too.

Nice to see Lip took Kevin's advice. Get out of Southside, kid.

Fi and Debs are spinning... Carl is as goofy as ever. I really want them to chime in about Ian. Is he gone for good or what?

Did you watch the scenes for the upcoming episode? Ian will pop up soon enough.

This episode was great. I think it tied up Lip's initial storyline of struggling in school quite nicely. Lip gets high off his own supply far too often, this time, no one was playing along. Kev and Mandy both told him to get his **** together and get back to school. I appreciated that. Kev misses Lip, sure, but Kev knows Lip's got a real shot at turning things around. Same goes for Mandy, who believed in Lip, maybe more than anyone.

Something doesn't sit right with me in regards to Sammi coming around so quickly after learning Frank had tried to swindle her out of a sliver of her liver. She's a Gallagher after all.

Fiona's out of control. That train scene was hot, no lie... But she's playing with fire, moreso than she can stand to get burned by. It's not just herself she's putting in jeopardy, but Debbie, Carl and Liam as well. In typical Shameless fashion, things will get worse before they get any better.

This Debbie storyline both creeps me out and breaks my heart. Glad that guy (Matty?) continues to turn down Debbie's ever persistent advances. Perhaps something will blossom from the brief moment she shared with that kid who popped too soon in the bathroom?

wish Fiona would stop being such a ho. She keeps having sex with her bf's brother and then gets mad at him, but then goes back for more. She's pissing me off

I cant stand Debbie this season and her attitude is annoying.

So there was a new episode last night? I just assumed there wasn't one cause of the Super Bowl.

Debbie and Fiona and Lip are all being annoying as hell right now. Hopefully Lip stops acting like an idiot and Fiona, good lord girl close them damn legs for once! She's so damn stupid this year

Yeah, everyone's kind of annoying me this season so far. Except Carl, which is weird for me, because I generally haven't cared for him in the past. Kev's still good, though.

Debbie is annoying, yes... which is great for displaying about a real 13 yo girl on tv.

Usually they're all smiles and flowers, when in real life they're bi-polar/psycho/too sexual/etc.

I love that this show does show 'real' people even though they are shouldered with 'craziness' to the extreme sometimes.

Yea that's my favorite thing about this show. They all seem so real

Absolutely loving Lip's story right now. The scene between him and Kevin this week was fantastic. He needed that, and I really want to see him succeed.

I want to see him succeed but I'm not holding my breath. He's a Gallagher and not only that he's also a very immature person. Sure he has potential but there is just so much stuff he has to overcome that I feel we may just see him crash and burn and turn into Frank eventually. I hope he gets his **** straight because he is my favorite character along with Kevin but he's just way too much like his dad. Ian is the one who will break free if any of them.

You mean the same Ian that hasn't been shown at all this season? :o

How the heck can Lip not be in jail? I really hope he's arrested in the next episode. I thought that stupid tirade was about him wanting to get kicked out and I hope he gets his wish.

There are probably about 100-250 kids give or take, on that campus who fit Lip's description. Half, or at the very least, a third also have a beef with the faculty, since it's the week of mid-terms. Add in the fact that they never caught him and the suspension of disbelief that goes a long with this show, it's not hard to see why Lip hasn't been arrested.

there were several witnesses. Not a single person recognized him? Not a single person could describe him for a police sketch? I mean the security guard that actually caught him couldn't? Lets not forget he LEFT the weapon which has his fingerprints all over it in one of the cars. Its not like Lip did this at some place he will never go again. He did it on the damn campus which he will be on every single day. Its ridiculous that he could do something so public and continue to be around the scene of the crime on a regular basis and not be caught. The fingerprints on the weapon is a guaranteed way to catch him as the culprit
