Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 1

I'm certainly more frustrated by a film like Prometheus, but I loathe Die Hard 5 much more strongly for being a total black hole of ideas and effort.

The TV spot is so much better than the trailer. It's like night and day. The film looks a bit schlocky but really that is what a sequel to the original should be. I bet it'll have the most memorable characters since the first one for a start.

That trailer's way better than the first. Digging all the military guy interactions - it's reminiscent of Dutch's crew, only they all come off as having a major screwloose (maybe Holbrook's guy aside).

But jesus - Shane, I love you man, but the "uber super crazyballs bigger-badder-meaner Predator" thing is so beyond lame.

The idea of three of the normal regular predators running around suburbia & military installations all with different agendas is really interesting, that's the meat of the thing here. You don't need one of them being alien-Shaquille on 'roids.

The tv spot was much better. This movie just looks fun as hell. I can't wait.

It's a shame. Because I love the original 2 Predators. But this looks AVP:R bad. Really...bad. :csad:

Well, then it might turn into another guilty pleasure of mine. ='D At least Wolf was worth watching in AvP:R.

That's much better than the first trailer. More of that please

But this looks AVP:R bad. Really...bad. :csad:

Well now, that's just completely hyperbolic.

Looks like a pile of piss and i'm unimpressed, Fox keeps screwing up the Alien franchise after Aliens and Predator after Predator 2 which i find Predator 2 criminally underrated and one of my fave sequels.

Man, the backlash to this film is pretty interesting.

Parts of it bug me conceptually too, but a lot of the reactions have been pretty heated since the first trailer. Especially given the team working on it, you'd figure a little benefit of the doubt would be in order here.

Can't quite figure out whether it's genuine or the usual TLJ types.

I don’t think it’s hyperbolic at all. The trailer gives off vibes of AVP2. It looks like it’s filmed in almost an identical style.

If people don’t like what they’re seeing they have a right to express their opinion. I’ve seen two trailers and neither have sold me on the film. Infact they’ve put me off. There isn’t some sort of conspiracy. People either like or don’t like what they see, it’s as simple as that.

What do you mean by The Last Jedi types exactly?

You know exactly what I mean by TLJ types.

And of course "this looks like Requiem" is hyperbolic. What, it's set at night, in suburban environments? Ooh.

I'm probably going to have some issues with this film too, but saying stuff like that just makes people write you off as unreasonable. This could suck, or could be great. But it's not going to be a nothing-budget affair made by a couple of tech-whizzes with no place directing anything.

The setting is very Requiem-like, you can't deny that. But there aren't any horny teens to be seen anywhere so that's a bonus.

I mean, I'm not even sure where to go with this franchise. Aside from their own home world.

This is part of a discussion 'at large' at present, that many (across varying genres) that appear to be wanting to resurrect or hark back to the 'glory' days of past franchise work.

Basically, is nostalgia enough to warrant further or re-opened doors of a time gone by.

It's time to take them to WW II, we should see them used as weapons, and their wrist bombs is what inspired the atomic bomb.
"The technology is not available"
"THEY MADE A NUCLEAR BOMB FROM A BOX OF SCRAPS, AND FITTED IT INTO THEIR WRISTS"

I like the idea of seeing their home world.
Honestly, I don't. They're generally shrouded in mystery; all we know is that they have a hunter attitude and a sense of honour. I feel like going to their homeworld would take away from their persona, and there's a chance that whoever is writing and/or directing the film could royally screw it up.

I'd like to see a WW2 setting, and maybe an ancient Japan too (Samurai?) Maybe even (touching on AvP, but without the aliens) something set in ancient Aztec or Egyptian times?

I wouldn't mind seeing something similar to what Star Trek: Voyager did with the Hirogen (who were obviously inspired by the Predator).

Her finger isn’t even on the trigger...it’s above it like they teach you to be safe around other people so you don’t accidentally fire.

after wanting to see the predator back in action for such a long time after the first 2 and what we've gotten hasn't lived up maybe the magic of the first 2 can't be repeated

and I would hate for them to go "home" I like the mystery behind the Predator

Hoping its good I like the cast but that footage shown looks rather bland

I really don’t, I haven’t been in the Star Wars forums since Rogue One and I actually only saw TLJ on Sat for the very first time. So I’ll ask again what exactly are TLJ types?

The comparisons to Requim are not only the similarities of suburbia. It looks cheap like Requiem was. There’s no two ways about it that the film looks and feels cheap.

I really don’t get the need for the snark. You seem to think people have to like what they’re seeing or that they have gone in wanting to hate it. Which is total BS. People aren’t liking what they’re seeing it’s as simple as that.

It looks bad it’s not unreasonable to call a spade a spade.

I'll say that Shane Black has made several good movies that were hard to market, so I will keep an open mind. The original is kind of schlocky, but good schlock. If he can repeat that here, I'd be satisfied. But yeah, none of the trailers have done too much for me so far.
