Yeah, that "revenge" thing is the first part of the controversial news on this movie that I do genuinely hate. Coming from Shane too, so we know it's true. Eep.
Guess there could be more to it, though. The guys from 1 & 2 had connections (rich & important daddies?
) or whatever. Or that's only a part of why the predators are coming back and taking more interest in us. Maybe it's more like "humans have evolved/become formidable beyond what we're comfortable with tolerating" or whatever? Like the predators are fine with hunting prey a lot more physically dangerous than humans, but they're usually non-sentient or if they're sentient they're not quite as individually wily & creative as we are?
Random brainstorming here, pretty likely it's not the case. Might be a way to go with the idea though, especially if Predators is canon too. Like "three recent encounters with these evolved-ape guys from this crappy backwater world, and each time one of them's come out on top when the dust settles? Maybe if we leave them alone for another couple centuries they might actually be a wider space-faring warlike threat to us, we might want to intervene pre-emptively."
*Shrugs*
