Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel!

“It’s an attempt to event-ize the ‘Predator’ and make it more mysterious. The [character of] Predator has been so overdone in a way —very low budget with a guaranteed return, every couple of years there’s a knock off churned out… I want people to say, ‘’The Predator’ is coming, I know it’s coming. We want to see it, it’s mysterious, interesting, it’s got the same sense of wonderment and newness that ‘Close Encounters’ had when that came out.’ That’s what we want. That’s very impossible to achieve, but we’re going to try.”

“It’s not important to have scale in the sense of… it doesn’t have to be 50 Predators riding motorcycles. It just has to feel like a powerful story that’s an event that has a lot of flavors and textures, and is not 90 minutes long.”

"They said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie," Black continued. "I said, 'Let's really do it right this time.'"

after saying this its in suburbia ? Black

Shane Black has said Fox are treating this an an "Event film" much like the ALIEN franchise. It's not getting Alien budget but its' up there.

i bet this is over 100 millions. if not 150 millions. this will be a big action movie IMO. but Shane Black style.

''In fact, given the proliferation of guns in America and how that's very much an issue, I'm excited to see Black play with that, given how the Predator only attacks armed adversaries and how that will play in a setting where every other person has a handgun and an AR-15 (I'm exaggerating, but still).''

I was watching the Schmoesknow Podcast like I do every week, and I didn't realize that Olivia Munn comes off as so stupid to everyone that her casting in this is considered a Denise Richards in "The World Is Not Enough" situation all over again. Honestly, I bought her as an extremely economics savy journalist in "The Newsroom", so I actually don't think I'll have a problem with her as a scientist.

Yet you people poo- pooed my idea of a Jennifer Lawrence as a special forces commando.

Yeah, Munn was really great in The Newsroom. I don't know why, whenever she's cast in something, it seems to set off the nerdosphere like wildfire. She gets a lot of crap and I've never been sure why.

They talked about how horrible she was in X-Men Apocalypse and i don't think she even had enough to do in that film to judge her what. She had what, 5 lines?

She was forgettable in XM:A, but that's because she had literally nothing to do in the film but stand there looking angry, and a few poorly choreographed flips at the end. It's not her fault the filmmakers wasted the character.

Yeah I didn't think that she was bad in XM: Apocalypse. She looked like Psylocke, and the actions scenes were alright. But character-wise, they didn't give her hardly anything to work with. So I wouldn't use that role to judge her acting ability one way or the other.

I liked her in The Newsroom as well. Also she's apparently playing a scientist, not a soldier. So different situations there.

Olivia Munn is foxy and talented (watch 'Newsroom'). Haters gonna hate.

Exactly. There is no way you can judge an actor on that little.

I did, for sure.

I detest Requiem as much as one can detest a movie. It's literally my most hated film of all time.

As for Shane Black and Fred Dekker in the suburbs, this rings to mind their script Shadow Company which also takes place in the suburbs. The vibe you can expe, should that be any indication, is very John Carpenter, think The Fog, Halloween, They Live, In The Mouth of Madness.

I wouldn't be surprised if elements from it carried over into this movie. It happens.

Fred Dekker already said the film will take place on a global scale.

Ah well I see it was already brought up but just posting this

Havent watched the new Schmoes Know show, but isn't Nick Mundy on this week. I like Nick Mundy but he can be brutish that's part of his charm. I don't know if he was even there for that segment but I'm sure he was kinda bull headed with his opinion on Munn...or not I havent see it

But yeah I thought she was great in the Newsroom and I usually never get the whole "I can't buy them as____" unless it's a really physical role ie. a out of shape person playing an athlete of some sort.

Munn is perfectly believable as a scientist. I dont get why she isnt. Is it because she's hot? Because if we want to go there most actors/actresses are unbelievable in roles of "normal" people

I don't think he was in That segment. It really does seem like it's because she's beautiful, though they don't really say that, and they hated her as psylocke.

Black just denied the suburbs rumor on twitter.
Normally this is where I would say people should not just go off rumors they hear about movies that sound absolutely ridiculous.

But this is part of a franchise that very nearly had a scene take place in a Wal-Mart after it was leaked on the internet. They denied that was true and hastily rewrote it to be a sporting goods store instead.

I doubt Black would have done something as bizarre as have it take place in a suburb but you never know these days with Hollywood.

Though i'm not grieving that it's not in the suburbs, i'm rather sure that with good storyline and material to work with, even something like the suburbs would be possible.

Or, the suburbia mentioned wasn't the suburbs but the actual suburbia store chain franchise lol. don't know what would be worse haha.

what if dutch is living in the suburbs :D

i just want a trailer for this movie, and i want it to be thrilling and dark. not grotesque, not evil. not hack and slash gore. just good, dangerous stuff that puts you on the edge of your seat.

not disgusting cringeworthy live human deskulling. that was just nasty gore (predators). also, please no rediculous 'worship' stuff and backstory bs. also no voodoo king bs.

I always thought the notion of a group of the world's best hunters being stalked by the Predator as they go on a hunt for wild animals had a certain kind of eloquence, instead of the usual military guys. Somewhere like Alaska perhaps, a silent and eerie landscape. Though that's probably too cold for the Predator.

Maybe the Florida Everglades or something like that?
