Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel!

^ The very same.

Cool. I'm kinda more interested in seeing his sequel to the first two movies (or will it be a prequel? I guess time will tell) than in Nimrod & Rodriguez's proposed Predators 2.

For one thing, while I think the tone of Predators was a step in the right direction, I have a few problems with the story. One thing is the whole "Game Reserve Planet" story. It takes away the hope for a happy ending. All the survivors can hope for is a chance to be hunted by the next set of Predators.

The other thing is that they pretty much nerfed the Predators. In the first two movies, one Predator took out an entire team of trained professionals who had all worked together for years. In Part 1, a single Predator took out Ahnuld's entire team of highly trained commandos. In Part 2, a single Predator takes out Danny Glover's entire team of highly trained police officers, plus Gary Busey's entire team of highly trained special agents (who actually knew what they were up against and we're prepared for it).

Then in Predators, it takes not one, not two, but THREE Predators to take out a ragtag group of killers (soldiers, assassins, gangsters, etc) who didn't know each other, work together, and had various levels of expertise and weaponry. Yeah, THAT makes sense.

So I'm hoping Mr Black goes back to basics. One Predator coming to Earth and hunting the deadliest prey it can find in the hottest climate imaginable.

Yeah, it just made no sense. 1 single Predator usually decimates an entire team of trained soldiers. 3 Predators working together, should have obliterated them.

I'd like to see a Predator hunting in a different era of time. They are attracted to heat and war right? How about the Crusades? Or the Spanish expansions into South America? Or the the Pacific theater in WWII?

Even just hints or flashbacks showing more of the mythology whilst in a modern day setting like the conflicts in the Middle East. That could be a good way to show Predators on Earth during the Crusades. Could show how the conflict in the Middle East hasn't really changed in hundreds of years. A bit of intelligence to go with the spectacular action and tense horror elements.

First time posting in this thread - but a long time fan of the Predator flicks. I think it would be cool to do a reboot, but in the shooting style and realistic nature of Lone Survivor. The original Predator was similar, although a little over the top... but hey, it was the 80s and I loved the over the top action flicks like the next guy. But a reboot using upgraded military tech and 21st century military force would be awesome to watch.

Totally agreed!

The movement is another thing they have to get right. The Predator is just not the Predator, if he doesn't have those graceful movements. The mixture of brutal savagery and grace, is one of the reasons why the Predator is so interesting. Without it, he's just some random hulking beast.

I thought Ian Whyte did an amazing job, re-capturing Kevin Peter Hall's movements in AvP:R. While the whole movie was just terrible, at least the Predator was still a delight to watch.

So here's a question for you. Who would you cast to play the Predator? Some of the actors/stunt men from later sequels didn't quite seem to fit the bill. They either weren't tall enough, not graceful enough, or worse yet, both.

I kinda like the idea of former NBA star and part time actor, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, playing the Predator. He's certainly tall enough at 7'2". He was quite graceful on the NBA court. And, most importantly (in my mind at least), he studied Jeet Kun Do under the tutelage of Bruce Lee. If anyone can play The Predator with a combination of power and grace, I bet you he can.

Not sure who "came up" with the movie idea but there is a Predator comic storyline called Race War that's set in Prison.

Cold War which takes place in Siberia would be another good one to use as inspiration.

Lacks the "heat" element of what attracts Predators. "They're drawn by heat and conflict." That's a direct quote from Predator 2. You can't make a sequel to Predator 2 and then set it in Siberia in the dead of winter. Well, I suppose you COULD, but that doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Get Ian Whyte back. He played the Predator in both AvP movies. He wasn't all that great in AvP, but still better than the Predators actors. And in AvP2, he totally aced the movements.

all the big actors can learn the predator movements in 1 week. 7 days.IMO it was an artistic choice from the director and studio to ignore the original predator.

Still better to get back the guy with the most experience. He is also the tallest of them all.

So how would you guys like to see the story go? Should it be a prequel set in Earth's past? Should it be set in the present, maybe somewhere like Apfganistan or Iraq? Set it in the future? Maybe set it in a city with a Rogue Predator hunting illegally and a Game Warden Predator trying to stop him?

I'm actually working on that last story as a Predator/Criminal Minds crossover fan fiction. The Game Warden (I call him "Ranger" in my story) catches up with the Rogue Predator (who I named "Rogue") just after Rogue had massacred a bunch of swingers at a blacklight themed orgy. During the struggle, Ranger gets injured and Rogue gets away. So Ranger seeks out the BAU, who are investigating the murders under the belief that they're dealing with some kind of family annihilator class serial killer. He manages to communicate with one of them (Reid) and convince him of the truth of what's going on. After Reid teaches Ranger enough English to communicate with the rest of the team, he introduces the interstellar police officer to his friends. Then together they take down Rogue.

I think something like that, minus the characters from Criminal Minds, could make for an interesting new twist to the existing Predator story line, which has already been done twice and fans could tire of it.

I'm surprised how quiet this has been. I hope they'd announce something at NYCC next week.

They probably won't. Shane Black is currently busy with The Nice Guys. We'll probably hear more about Predator after the movie's release, next summer.

The Nice Guys isn't out until June 2016, but yeah, I expect Black will be finished with it by next summer and then we'll hear what he's doing next.

Oh, mixed that one up. Well, he'll be done with filming, but post-production and editing still takes up lots of time and energy. Maybe we'll know if he'll actually make Predator, but I wouldn't expect concrete news before the end of 2015 or the year 2016 then.

I'm assuming Predator 4 will come after Nice Guys. Doc Savage seems dead in the water.

So what's everyone's opinions on female Predator's being featured? I saw an interview he said saying he couldn't comment on such things yet.

Yay or nay?

Completely different clan/species of Predators (they even state that in the movie), so different rules. And in fact they DID kill off most of the humans. There were two survivors left by the end (just like in Predator 1 & 2).

As long as they don't have boobs, or typical sexy bodies, I have nothing against it.

You missed the point. The humans in Predators never should have stood a chance. Individually they were the best of the best, but that doesn't mean that they'll work well as a team. Meanwhile there were not one, not two, but THREE predators working as a team, yet somehow they LOST. Hell, they even had f**king hunting dogs helping them out! In Predator 1 & 2, the predators were so badass they only needed ONE to take out an entire TEAM. In Predators they were such p**sies they couldn't even kill a bunch of randomly selected killers. I cal bulls**t on that.

And I know there were two survivors in Predators. But there was NO POINT to them surviving. All they can do is wait around for the next batch of predators to come kill them. Whoopty f**kin' doo! And again, THEY NEVER SHOULD HAVE SURVIVED IN THE FIRST PLACE! Danny Glover's entire TEAM of police officers, plus Gary Busey's entire TEAM of highly trained special agents (who had trained SPECIFICALLY to trap a predator) were wiped out by ONE predator in Predator 2. In the first Predator movie, ONE predator took out Arnold's ENTIRE TEAM of Special Ops soldiers. The predators in Predators were so Nerfed, the predator from either of the first two movies would have killed all three of them, the one strung up in their camp, their hunting dogs, AND the entire ragtag group of humans single handed.
