Iron Man 3 Shane Black to write/direct?

Hey, its that blood boiling word "real" again. Surprised this board isn't tearing anything that has to do with "real" to pieces.

Great that Black will also write the script. Sounds interesting with direction they're going for the third film.

Here's an IGN article about the same thing

It makes me so excited about this project! Iron man was my number 1 superhero movie of all time!

They messed up Iron man 2 so bad - But a new one with this team and the self-contained story. God! Can't wait! :wow::wow::wow:

I'm excited about the new direction of IM3, even though I still have my doubts about Favreau leaving the franchise he helped built. I hope with the new storyline about Stark doing the secret agent thing, we will see new suitcase armors that served multiple functions, like stealth or underwater mission.

I definitely want to see the armor take him actually into orbit. Whether it be the modified space armor or just his usual armor....doesn't matter to me.

I'm really interesting to see where Iron Man 3 will go if it's not gonna be bogged down by so many things being pushed into it. I hope it's equal to the first Iron Man that blew people away with them not realizing how great it was gonna be.

He already left.

I think they meant they have doubts about the franchise after losing who was basically its co-creator.

It's not like Favreau is an auteur who left this unmistakable stylistic mark on the franchise. He's plenty replaceable.

RDJ has always been the heart and soul of this series.

Yes. if Mathew Libatique is back, you won't even notice Favreau's absence.

I was thinking they should bring back Libatique for visual continuity sake.

finally saw lethal weapon

I expected amazing by with the way people talk of this guy's writing.
I was disapointed.

Yeah when people praise Black's writing, I never got why the Lethal Weapon series gets mentioned. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang I would understand but that's on another level. The LW films were never a source of great writing, IMO. Those were star driven movies for the most part along with Donner's good direction. But they were never really much for being the source of memorable lines or amazing plots. About the only line anyone remembers that's associated with the franchise was "I'm too old for this s**t".

Are you kidding me? They had many great lines and moments for this film. Way to undermine the importance of Lethal Weapon 1 and Lethal Weapon 2. Both Lethal Weapon film were pretty quotable (LW3 andLW4 not as much since Black left after 2).

Yeah I just rewatched them recently and the first is pretty much one memorable scene after another for the character beats, complete with great dialogue and structuring stemming from the writing.

And I find 2 to be a perfect balance of comedy, action, and drama. At times it felt like a comedy but when things got serious the tone switched over perfectly from funny to serious.

The first 2 Lethal Weapon films are action movie CLASSICS. Anyone who says otherwise is just...WRONG! The dialogue in those films was witty, varied, and engaging. In other words, the dialogue was excellent by film writing standards, not just good.

As an aspiring screenwriter, I pay attention to dialogue, so believe me...I paid attention while watching these films ;)

I'm really excited he got chosen to write and direct the film. He def can get the tone of this just right.

You're also an aspiring filmmaker/Screenwriter

:highfive:

Yeah, there's a lot of witty banter between Riggs and Murtaugh. But to be honest with tone, I'm gonna give more credit to Donner than Black though because he's the director.

Still working on the finishing touches on my one script right now, but it is almost done. I've hit somewhat of a wall though.

I agree with you most of the credit goes to Donner for that, but Black does deserve some credit for it, too. If not for his writing, Donner has less to work with. Plus, I'm sure he learned a thing or two from Donner

Of course Black deserves some credit, and he's gotten nothing but better over the last 20 something years.

And I hope your script goes well. I've had writer's block at times too.
