Iron Man 3 Shane Black to write/direct?

IM2 isn't Fav's fault.
The one director that get's the pass whilst others never do.

marvel had nothing to do with how lame the monaco scene was, nor how lame the buddie fight was, nor how lame the vanko fight was...
the fury stuff..maybe.

Great choice

indeed, but I fail to see how this won't have the same "marvel induced" problems as the last!

I tend to agree, Favs shouldn't get a pass for the action, or lack there of.

But I disagree, there was nothing lame about the Monaco scene.

I fail to see why he'd need a pass for anything. Other than the first movie, I can't think of another superhero film that is better than IM2.

I first loose Edward Norton as Hulk, and now Favreau for Iron Man? Why does everything I love go away? :csad:

Oh I'm not hating on Favreau, the movie or anything. IM2 was my favorite movie of last year, and second favorite CBM behind IM1.

But, it could've had a little more action. My opinion of course.

Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Don't worry, Shane Black will make the hurt go away. :cwink:

Well I'm just about always up for more action but I've been satisfied with what action I got in both films. I'll take quality, well done action that I can see over quantity(Transformers) that uses shaky-cam to cover up bad FX or action bits that make no sense(TDK) any day. What I would have liked though with IM2 was more villainy and less pushing of a hot character(War Machine) before said character could come out in a more organic and satisfying way. There is a fairly strong corelation between War Machine and Venom in that respect.

Sometimes the fans want somethings(rightly so) but the studios seem afraid to hold off on it until it can be done in the best way. They end up caving and something else gets shafted as a result of forcing it. I wanted to see Venom more than any other Spidey villain but considering just how they ended up doing it, I would have rather waited another 10 years if it meant getting it right. While I don't think War Machine got the shaft as much as that, I really would have liked to seen it follow the comics more closely(which would have meant probably holding off for another couple of films). A lack of patience can end up really kicking us in the butt much of the time.

I can think of a few. IM2 was good, but top tier of comic films? Not really.

I'm excited to see what Shane Black does with it.

I'd actually say TIH was better IMO. TIH is very underrated for me, but I felt it was structurally more sound than IM2.

Too much was edited out of TIH for me to give it a rating of anything higher that just decent. And as an old school Hulk comics fan, the last thing I wanted to see be canon in the MCU was the TV show take on Hulk's origin. I rank it with Raimi's Spidey films and Singer's X-Men films as so-so to decent at best as films themselves but pretty poor as adaptions of the source material.

TIH merged elements of the TV show origin, ultimate, and 616 in the film, and I felt it worked. It tied the Hulk into this interconnected world of the new Marvel filmverse very well. The characters in TIH (main ones at least) were well rounded and had interesting arcs and went interesting places. Yes, the deleted footage were good scenes, but the lack of them didn't kill the movie either. Everything still made sense and worked out structurally. It's a good film, and I rather enjoyed it.

The one major change I would have preffered was having Stark's cameo after credits, not prior. Before the credits kind of leave on Stark is awesome, not I just saw an awesome Hulk film.

Looks like I need to watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. :o

I really didn't care for IM2 that much. But I'm interested to see what Shane can bring to this franchise in the 3rd film. The resume speaks for itself.

It'll be interesting to see what he does. Black is no Schumacer or Ratner, so I'm optimistic we'll get something good.

I'm excited to see how Black will do IM3, I think it will be fantastic. I enjoyed the first 2/3s of number 1 and did not like number 2 at all. I think that TIH is easily the best so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe though it looks like Thor and the Cap will be making strong cases for themselves.

I guess with Shane Black writing as well chances are Justin Theroux won't be needed which I think will be a good thing. There was far too much humour in IM2 I thought!

And I wonder if they might consider asking Favreau to come back just to play Happy.

Yeah I seriously doubt Theroux will be back. I also wonder about Favreau/Happy, but tbh Happy isn't really needed or his screen time should be cut down to the amount he had in part one.

I won't miss Happy. I thought he was really silly in IM2, especially in the Black Widow fight scene.

It's great that Theroux won't be back. He's a mediocre screenwriter in which Favs and Downey had to pick up the slack. The script for Iron Man wasn't that good and from the look of how the movie went IM2 wasn't any better scriptwise.

I love him getting owned in a split second by BW though.

Agreed, IM2 was good, and far better than trash like X3 and the FF movies, but it is also not near the top-tier of CB movies, it isnt even in the top 10 for me.

100% agreed. It had its moments, but also its flaws. I would be hard pressed to put it in my top 10 also.

Shane Black is a gem in Hollywood. I would love to see him take over the third film. The man knows how to write good action sequences, and he can really write feuding partners or people with opposing opinions. Too bad we couldn't have saved War Machine for this movie, I'm sure he would've made the fight between Rhodes and Tony more interesting. Not just in terms of physical, but also expanded on the reason they were fighting each other a bit more, and not just "take off the suit"

This is fantastic news! Now all we need is fat Val Kilmer as the Mandarin. RDJ will be will be great reunited with Shane Black. Personally, I don't think Favreau had it in him to do another.
