Shawn Ryan and Martin Campbell team up for "Last Resort on ABC"

Yeah but I can't pass up Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Mulan going to a bar together.

I really think this being on ABC is what did them in. The place is chick central. Even the shows I love, like Once Upon a Time and Happy Endings, are probably more female-friendly than male-friendly. CBS supported Ryan's The Unit for a few seasons. I think it could've done the same with this...

Well, I hope we at least get a resolution to the story. That's my fear for Revolution if it gets cancelled, I HATE when high-concept shows end without telling what is up

How anyone takes the system seriously is beyond me. I don't watch any television shows live. Don't have the time. Tired of shows getting canceled because the business is lightyears behind where the current viewers are. We can't and don't always watch shows live and we don't watch commercials. Its why we have DVR's you twits! Stop the denial!:wall:

Then how do they make money? Advertisers and the networks have blind faith that they're both getting good deals? That's not going to happen.

Would you want more product placement or paying more for your TV bill?

Putting the show there was odd as it leads into Grey's. It does counter program what Fox and CBS have but it still was an odd fit. Nashville and Last Resort should've switched places on ABC's schedule.

It's great that you guys liked it, never interested me even with Shawn Ryan involved. He should stick to cable or just go into films.

Gutted this wont be continuing, have been really enjoying it so far, great concept as well.

Tweet from Shawn Ryan...

Seriously, can we just do away with the broken system that is Nielsen yet?
Hear, hear.

But honestly have any of these super big budget like ultra serialized plotted shows recently been successful? You know the ones most like lost?

I guess Revolution kinda.

But The Event tanked. Last Resort tanked. I think a couple similar shows went down as well.

I really liked FlashForward...

I'm really disappointed that this series will not continue. It was one of the three shows I'd latched onto this fall, along with Arrow and Revolution.

As always, I hope another network takes a chance on it, even though I know it's unlikely. I hate it when a series isn't allowed to film a proper conclusion.

^How likely is it another network would pick it up? Does this happen often in the US?

Just as things were moving forward they cancel it. :(

Southland got rescued by TNT where it was a much better fit.

I'm not surprised by the news but I'm still a bit saddened by it. Despite the odds, I held out hope for the show. I hope they'll give us enough closure to provide a satisfying conclusion to the series.

It is happening more often

NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent was saved by USA
NBC's Friday Night Lights was saved by DirecTV, reran on NBC
NBC's Southland was saved by TNT
FX's Damages was saved by DirecTV
Fox's Breakout Kings pilot was picked up by A&E
Fox's Arrested Development was resurrected by Netflix
ABC's Cougar Town was saved by TBS
ABC's Devious Maids pilot was picked up by Lifetime
CBS' Unforgettable was resurrected by CBS to air as a summer series

AMC's The Killing is likely to be resurrected by Netflix by becoming a partner with AMC
Netflix almost picked up a second season of Terra Nova

A&E or TNT could save it but TNT's slate is full so A&E could take it on.

Can Shawn Ryan catch a break already?!?!?!

Hey, you wanna talk not catching a break... Josh Friedman has done like a billion pilots, only one has made it to series (Terminator: TSCC) and that only lasted two seasons.

Poor guy. :csad:

I just hope the T-1000 gets revenge on those scallywags for burning his plates of meat before the show ends! :argh:

Fingers crossed then that this gets picked up by another network, its really good and now i've started watching it I cant stop.

Great start, and as much as I love Shawn Ryan WHY cant his shows stay on a damn network.

Chicago Code
Terriers

Exclusive: Last Resort, 666 Park Avenue Tweaking Final Episodes to Give Fans Closure

Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue will not leave viewers hanging.

Despite ABC pulling the plug on the freshman dramas last week, the brains behind both shows tell TVLine that they were given enough time to turn their respective swan songs into series finales.

“We have time to tweak,” confirms Last Resort creator Shawn Ryan, adding that Episode 13 will indeed function as a full-fledged series finale.

666 exec producers David Wilcox and Matt Miller, meanwhile, tease that their Sunday spookfest “is building to a powerful and surprising series finale, where all your questions will be answered. We hope fans of the show continue watching all the way to the end of Jane and Henry’s incredible journey to the dark side.”

Is it really the end for 666 though? DVR data released last week showed the ratings for the thriller’s Nov. 4 episode spiking a staggering 77 percent — raising hopes that ABC might un-ring the cancellation bell. The news prompted leading man Dave Annable to vent on Twitter that ABC “f—ed up” by axing the series.

But it’s a decision the network appears to be standing by.

While ABC president Paul Lee calls the DVR surge “amazing,” it’s not enough to offset the show’s miniscule live numbers. “It’s wonderful to see the passion [these] shows have,” he says. “We just have to make sure we monetize it.”

Thoughts? Relieved you’ll get a return on the investment you made in both shows? (Additional reporting by Vlada Gelman)

The thought of a 13 episode arc is intriguing. I'm really starting to think network TV needs to start taking after cable, with 13 episode orders instead of aiming for 22 and usually falling short. Or perhaps treat the 13 (or whatever the episode order may be) as a miniseries. If it succeeds, fine, order more. If it doesn't, at least play it to completion and aim for some closure.

Id go even further and have networks be more receptive to single season series' instead of looking for something thatll last years.

With the way theyre cancelling shows now it seems like a good idea. And like you said if there is an audience, maybe they ask show creators if itd be possible to create a second season and so on.

I'm glad they are going to wrap Last Resort up properly.
