I'm going to stop posting on this thread, because I'm just going to be saying the same thing every time something new comes out.
I want Captain Marvel to be more fun, light-hearted and kid friendly than the rest of the DCEU, but that doesn't need to come at the cost of making him an immature, idiotic goofball.
The Captain Marvel I love is mature, wise and assured. He's confident without being arrogant, intelligent without being a smartass and powerful without being aggressive.
By jettisoning the wisdom of Solomon and simply making "Big with superpowers" they have lost the personality of the character.
As much as I hate the costume, using Philadelphia instead of Fawcett and casting a tall handsome muscular Sivana, I could have seen past all of that if they still had something recognisable as the personality of Captain Marvel.
I know this version has been used before, by Roy and Dann Thomas, by Geoff Johns and by Young Justice among others, but I felt all of them were much weaker because of this. I appreciate that these characters change over time, and that different creators have different takes on them, that variation is why I love superhero comics, but this particular version just isn't for me.
To those who do like this version and are excited for the film, I hope you enjoy it, I expect the film to be very popular.
I'm just a bit downhearted that I can't get myself excited for a Captain Marvel film.
I hope I'm wrong and that I like the film when it comes out, but until that time, I'll spare the rest of you my constant crowing about this being "not my Captain Marvel".
