Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Shazam will probably be the film that finally turns DC around and makes it a worthy competitor to Marvel but in their own way
Except for JL no film was a flop financially. And I have a feeling you made a choice to ignore both AM and WW for a reason.

Loved Zach since the Chuck days, sure this will finally be his big break.
Unfortunately i'll be seeing this alone, absolutely no interest from my friends who i usually watch SH and blockbusters with. We're in our 40's and the marketing has just been to kid oriented for them.
Hope my friends are atypical and not the standard for older GA.

And that was really only a flop because of the bloated budget (sure, making less than all the other films would still be a disappointment, but it wouldn't lose money)

Either way because of this film DC is actually gaining enough traction to compete with Marvel...best time to be a CBM fan whether it be Marvel or DC because both companies are putting out great movies especially DC now with Shazam

About the lack of DC sequence intro:

Outside of the theater, half hour away from my screening.
Will be back later and tell how it is.

Just shows that we need some person to coordinate between different DC movies existing within DCEU, it seems like Geoff Johns is not even watching "completed movies" that are sent to the theaters.

Okay, I really enjoyed it. My crowd also into it, no big applause but audible positive reactions throughout. My theater is as packed as my previous Aquaman showing.

Personally its very close or at least 9/10.
I expected it to has worse CGI based on some reviews but actually only several seconds of flying that I noticed a less than satisfactory VFX. But I was on a standard Dolby, not IMAX so don't take my words completely. Maybe helps that I lessen my expectations.

Speaking of expectations, I dampened it beforehand. Watch 2-3 spoiler free reviews that its reviewers didn't like it much. Just skipping details, don't focused on parts that they don't like (this is the tricky one) and I'm good.

So... This film is poised to make more than Aquaman did? Or... Was Aquaman a failure with audiences as well as financially?

I saw it yesterday. I Loved it. It's definetely DC's Deadpool or, to be clearer, how Disney would like to make a Deadpool movie: funny, irreverent, ironic and even family-friendly.

Very good movie.

I expect it will have some consequences in the Cavill in/out debate in the Superman forum.

Just saw it. The strongest moments involved Billy’s foster care story, friendship with Freddy and discovering his powers as Shazam. Zachary Levi nailed it.

Mark Strong was wasted, and some of the exposition around the magic/Council of Wizards was also weak. The fight scenes were underwhelming.

7/10

The good outweighs the bad. There’s a very, very cool cameo too : )

Was busy earlier but I have to say they captured the feel of the original and the new 52 version at once. This Billy is kind of an ******* but innocent at the same time. I also like how they pretty much acknowledge other metahumans exist and aren't exactly shocked by it, but just treat it as something that happens in the world.

Really really enjoyed this one. Finally excited for DC Films in general now. This is a great new direction.

I was really excited for this and came out kinda disappointed. 6.5-7/10 for me. The humor didn't land for me. I am just glad we got a Shazam movie after all this time though. That's awesome!

Loved it!

edit: My spoiler free review...

I am not sure you could do a more comic accurate version of this story. Every character is a real life version of the characters from the story. Some of the kids are so spot on you would think the comic was drawn with them in mind. The personalities are great, the story is fun and engaging and it was a good time. Lots of cool references and winks and nods and just a ton of charm.

It isnt the best DC movie ever, but it is definitely something kind of special. I felt like I was 8 years old again watching Big. The comedy wasnt forced, it was natural childlike reactions to some just ridiculous circumstances.

I am biased though, I love the character and love Zachary Levi. My GF though is not biased and she loved it as well. Said she would watch it again and never says that.

I think the reviews I saw pretty much nail it. This is a cool, fun unique type of superhero film that won't win any awards but you wont regret paying money and seeing in the theater.
