Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

'Shazam!' director says film will avoid 'Captain Marvel' name

While we know he's going by Shazam, "to avoid confusion" with obviously Marvel's Captain Marvel, who can actually use that name to brand and sell and merchandise their character, while DC can't.
Sandberg did hint that there might be a fun reference to the name "in the movie".

“Let’s just say we’re going to have a bit of fun with that in the movie,” director David Sandberg teases on the name change. “But he’s basically known as Shazam, which makes sense because of the confusion.”

That's great. I hope they can make it work, cause a good inside joke is good, a bad one makes the face cringe.

It'll probably be a quick nod like Peter Parker shouting out SHAZAM!
Likely Freddy (who appears to be a superhero fanatic) will suggest the name Captain Marvel.

are they gonna call him Captain Marvel in the movie
he is my CaptainMarvel
You might be the last person in the history of every fan of the character since forever, to announce they; hope the name Captain Marvel gets a nod. Sandberg did hint there could be a “ bit of fun with that in the movie,” (see above discussion) .
So something to watch out for.:yay:

hmm rly? other forum i was on there were quite a few "Billy is my CaptainMarvel" heads
I wanna see how they play on the name
they'll prolly make a digg at Marvel

So, something I've been wondering. . . so. They seem to be using the post-Nu52 version of Sivana here. Which, fair enough. And the concept is sound enough.

However. . . why exactly was this premise applied to *Sivana*? Why did DC turn the mad scientist into another mystically-empowered villain?

LOL! Yeah I'm saying pretty much every fan since forever wants that acknowledged.
You are just the last to announce what most everyone already expressed. Not new.
Sandberg even addressed it a while ago.

And Johns is having outrageous fun with it in the books...
(ugh I hate blond Freddy /side rant])

Likely because they plan the separate Black Adam movie, and really want to set him up on his own first. (Geoffe John's is a big fan). Then pull off a sequel where they meet. Although they'll likely reveal Adam at the end of SHAZAM!.
Adam has got a pretty great powerful and tragic back story, with a full story arc of his own, although it's set in the ancient past. He is a bit of a fallen hero to anti-hero, and it may deserve it's own film, especially with Johnson as the lead.
Is it a risk splitting them up? Absolutely, but I think it's worth it.

As far as Sivana using magic. True we are more used to Sivana using scientific machinations, why isn't he building some diabolical machine, or in a giant robot suit? I would love to see that too. It feels a bit like if they were going to power up Sivana with magic and make him a hands on brawler, why not just use Adam?. So I'm not crazy about it either, but there is some precedence for it, Sivana has used (stolen) magic and been powered up before.

And from what we saw he may have stolen the Wizards staff.

...A point is being made his unnatural use of it is corrupting him.
He will not be able to control what he unleashes.(my guess?)

The story they are building this off the New52 relaunch, used both Adam and Sivana, as well as the Deadly Sins. That is allot for one film.
So more reason to split it.
As told, it is actually Sivana tapping into the magic, which eventually unlocks and releases Adam to our time. So this leads to Adams return.
So the set up will be there.

Sounds like that Superman cameo is back on but without an actor.

He/she/they are the person to listen to. I dont trust most people that post staff as I often make clear around here but VA has proven to be reliable with stuff like this going back to JL. I ate a lot of crow when I attacked them back then.

Great to read the reaction is good :word:

Based on?
And where was it confirmed "on" to begin with?

Please provide Link / Source. Thanks!

Originally? It was on as of before the end of filming. It was pretty widely known that was where the falling out with Cav-El happened. His schedule didnt allow for him to appear (much like with the JL reshoots) and so the rumor was WB was moving on from him. Then they announced they were focusing on a Supergirl film which just reeks of a smoke screen.

This is what is being reported out there:

"According to sources close to WGTC, the Man of Steel’s appearance comes at the end of Billy Batson’s new film as part of the payoff to a running joke. Throughout the movie, it’s said that Billy’s friend and foster brother Freddy Freeman has been asking Billy to show up at his school in the Shazam persona in order to prove to all of Freddy’s classmates that he knows the hero. In the final scene, Shazam finally shows up, before saying that he brought another friend with him. At this point, Superman walks into the room, but since Cavill isn’t looking ready to return anytime soon, the film will allegedly use a body double that doesn’t show Clark Kent’s face."

That legit would be awesome :)

If they were hoping for sequels, I don't know why they didn't cast a younger actor as Billy Batson. Asher Angel is already 16 years old and will legally be an adult by the time they get around to making a sequel with Shazam fighting Black Adam.

The main problem is child labor laws, when school is in session they can only be on set for 6 hours on weekdays, 3 of those hours have to be spent for class and recess. So you basically get 3 hours to work with the main actor and actually film them if they are under 16. Weekends they can film for 6 hours which is probably the only time the director will have to film the bulk of their scenes. By comparison, adults actors stay on set for at least 12-14 hours a day

Here I thought BN was joking about that yesterday. If Henry's not part of the scene, they should leave it out. IMO.

I think it's a nice tease, I love stuff like this so I'm all over it.

I imagine they are hoping he is one of those youthful-looking adults who can still pass as 13 when they are 23. I mean, its either that, or recasting, or expensive CGI age alteration.

( Or actually aging up Billy Batson, I suppose, which would be weird as hell. . . )

Hopefully that means they film the series in quick succession like Hunger Games, then we get Shazam movies every year or two and other characters get to shine after soon

Daniel's track record of late is not stellar...

Or they can do like Young Justice, have him still transform into Shazam even though he's 17 years old. Or you can say Shazam is the 40+ year old version of Billy which isn't hard to believe.
