Shes firmly cemented herself in the Marvel Universe following her performance as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But Elizabeth Olsen hasnt even seen her performance in Captain America: Civil War.
The American actress has been so busy with promotion and filming new projects that she hasnt even had a viewing yet. Speaking in London, Olsen revealed that she plans on going incognito to a local cinema with some friends and see it there
I had the best time as a fan of Star Wars, just watching it with my friends, Olsen discloses. And Id like to see this movie with Marvel fans.
I havent seen it yet, but from what we filmed, I think it ended on a cool note of where it could go with Scarlet Witch in future. I have no idea what they are going to do with her, but its interesting that it has been left open.
The 27-year-old, who counts twins Mary-Kate and Ashley as older sisters, is thrilled with the development of her character in the new film and admits the story of Scarlet Witch is far from over.
The first thing that excited me when I read the script was that its really nice to be absolutely necessary to the story, she says. But they manage to do that with all of the characters in this film, which is great.
The rest of Scarlet Witchs journey is trying to figure out her abilities. Shes repurposed herself and this is now her surrogate family. Its now this great new journey that shes on and this arc that she has right now.
Captain America: Civil War sees Scarlet Witch side with Team Cap, under the leadership of Captain America, when civil war breaks out against Team Iron Man over the issue of government control.
Although her character goes rogue in the movie, Olsen isnt of the opinion that an overall lack of governance is a good thing in reality. For the world of Marvel, I like Team Caps side, but outside of Marvel, there should be some control, she shrugs.
The film sees a beautiful friendship develop between Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettanys Vision, as they both struggle to come to terms with the powers that they have.
For Olsen, working with Londoner Bettany was one of the highlights of her most recent Marvel experience.
Paul and I thought that the scenes we got to do together were really sweet and Vision is such a great person with a really great heart, she says, before immediately correcting herself. I mean, he doesnt have a heart
but I think its great that they have this connection.
Theyre both powered from the exact same thing and they both fear this power theyve been given. They understand that connection. I think a really pure friendship is being created. Where its going to go, I have not a clue. But it was so fun to work with Paul.
Having not yet found the limits of her powers, Olsen admits Scarlet Witchs Marvel future cant easily be predicted.
In Ultron, her brother died and she was driven by that, she explains. I dont know what shes capable of. The problem for a writer and storyteller is that shes basically limitless unless she has an internal discovery. Theres a whole world of discovery that they can play around with.
This is the best job ever and its a lot of fun. Its not like a frivolous set where we dont care about this characters in the universe. We all care.
The only fault Olsen can find with the entire experience was the difficulty of getting out of her Scarlet Witch garb to go to the toilet.
Going to the bathroom is really annoying: its 30 minutes to take it all off and another 30 to put it on, she laughs. You cant go to the bathroom without undoing an entire corset and then redoing it. So honestly, that was annoying.
