Harris actually fits in more with Moriarty's physical description anyway. Pitt I think could have pulled off the brains but put an interesting twist on the character. I wouldn't have minded him also being a physical match as well.

Holmes owned Moriarty in the falls scene in the LXG comic. I wonder if Moriarty will be physical or not.

Well, to be fair, RDJ doesn't fit the physical description of Holmes either. So I don't think Pitt would have been out of place.

That is, if you believe Moriarty actually exists. I've always been intrigued by that theory myself.

Physically, yea, but I love his Holmes as the guy who's so caught up in his work, he forgets hygeine and lives in a dark room for days thinking. He has the eccentric part down pat.

Jeremy Brett's Holmes is pretty accurate to the book as well. He has a great balance. But I'm pretty sure RDJ's Holmes' wardrobe is more accurate.

Holmes in the book is a mix between RDJ and Brett. Or at least that's how I see it.

Anyone like Rupert Everett as Holmes? We watched The Silk Stocking in detective/mystery class this week and it was pretty good. His Holmes is more cynical and dark, but i thought it worked. Although I prefer Holmes with his eccentricities.

I think he is addressing the theory made popular by a book called "The Seven-percent solution" that suggests that Moriarty is a fabrication made up by Holmes. Which is credible since we (watson) never actually see him. Though the reasons to why Holmes made him up vary. Personally I think its a load of bunk.

I am indeed. I don't think it necessarily true, I just found the theory interesting. And the reason for that was because they said Holmes, being so brilliant, actually subconsciously invented a rival for himself that could actually match him intellectually. It's an interesting idea, though I'm not sure if it's one I'd want to see done in a movie, simply because I wouldn't like the idea of Holmes causing so much death with the invented Moriarty.

That's actually a very interesting idea. But no way in hell that would work on film. I would feel gipped. Moriarty is too great of a character to be fictitious.

Exclusive: Stephen Fry on Sherlock Holmes 2
Source: Scott Huver November 9, 2010

British actor and comedian Stephen Fry has rarely been so excited to be lazy. But as part of the cast of the sequel Sherlock Holmes 2, Fry gets to pour all of his energy into playing Victorian literature's most famously brilliant but solidly sedentary deductive mind.

"I play Mycroft, Sherlock Holmes' brother - the smarter brother, I hasten to add," Fry told ComingSoon.net. "He's so lazy that he never gets the reputation that Sherlock does."

Mycroft Holmes has long been one of the more intriguing characters in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's canon, with his mysterious and significant role in the British government, his large girth and aversion to physical activity, and utter lack of practicality, despite being his brother Sherlock's equal--and possible superior--in mental acuity.

"Historically it's a very interesting character, and as a lover of Sherlock Holmes since I was a boy I've always enjoyed that character myself," said Fry. "I hope that people enjoy it. It's certainly been fun making the picture. I'm on it until January and it's really been fun."

Fry's also a fan of director Guy Richie's inventive reinterpretation of Holmes-ian lore. "It's what's known in the Sherlock business as noncanonical. It's not based on the books - it's based on the idea of the characters and the relationships, and I love the way that Guy uses the camera. I love the fluency and speed and the wit and the drive of it. It's not exactly Steampunk, but there's a very 21st century angle on Victorian England. And I love the tweeds and the fact that it was Sherlock Holmes, but it managed to escape the Greek tradition. Which of us doesn't love Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett, in particular those two, but he's the kind of character that will be done in 200 years time. They'll be making hologram movies of Sherlock Holmes. He'll never die. He's an imperishable figure. So each age will remake him in their own image, if you like and I like what Guy did. He's very filmic."

With his personal appreciation of Holmes as a British icon, Fry admits it did take some doing to wrap his own brain around the notion of an American--in the form of Robert Downey, Jr.--playing the detective. "To some extent, but he's such a charismatic and likeable screen presence, Robert, that you very soon forget it. More than most, he owns every second of screen time. He's just wonderfully likeable. He's the real thing."

Sherlock Holmes 2, also starring Jude Law, Noomi Rapace and Jared Harris, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, 2011.

Lisbeth, Tony Stark, and Inman in one movie set in 1890s Europe? I like.

Is Jared Harris going to mimic that deep, raspy voice from the first movie?

I can't wait for this! I loved the first one so much.

Yay. Glad that RDJ is maintaining his glorious comeback

I can't tell what is going on. They have three seperate reactions to whatever is happening.

Well, at least Noomi isn't replacing Rachel McAdams. Speaking of which, is she in Sherlock Holmes 2 or not?

I've been wondering the same thing. I sure hope so....

I just love eccentric and looney Holmes. RDJ brings that so well. Him, Brett and Cumbernatch are the only Holmes that I've seen that have been properly done.

Richard Roxburough's Holmes? Yeesh. He was alright but nothing memorable. He's too villain-y looking and he doesn't give off a much Holmes vibe.

Noomi looks good but she almost looks like she stepped out of the Wild West there.

Didn't gypsies dress like that back then? I thought they did.

I'm not really sure. Maybe?

But that hat looks like it was stolen from Jed Clampett.

Noomi is incredibly sexy. This movie just went to the next level having her in it. I had no idea she was in it!

Christmas 2011 release? With bells on.

Out of all of the sequels out there with long subtitles, I think Sherlock Holmes 2 doesn't get one?
