Before Law was cast I wanted Crowe to play Watson. But now seeing what they did, Law fits the bill so much better.

Hannibal, those are some nice suggestions. Weaving's closest what I've long imagined Moriarty to look like.

Alan Rickman.

Gary Oldman.

Jeremy Irons.

 Any of these would be great.

Put me down for a vote for Pitt.

I don't know why but after watching the movie and getting the tease of a sequel I thought of Pitt first.

Johnny Depp.

Hugo Weaving.

Any of these 5 would do and be as i imagine
Moriarty being like more so then Brad Pitt for some reason.
All sound fantastic to me

Irons or Rickman would probably be my favorites

RDJ had to drop 'Cowboys and Aliens' because of Sherlock Holmes 2 right? But then he's gonna film Cuaron's Gravity this summer. Is it because 'Gravity' has a shorter schedule?

If RDJ has to drop out of Cowboys & Aliens due to Sherlock Holmes 2, I hope he'll have the time in his busy schedule to shoot The Avengers, which should start shooting next year for its May 4th, 2012 release date.

As for Moriarty, I think Christopher Waltz, Brad Pitt, and Jeremy Iron are all good choices to play this diabolic villain.

I've always been one to defend Pitt on these boards and many other places because I think he is a very good actor and people often want to write him off because of the whole "sex symbol" thing. People do this with Leo too.

However, I really don't think Pitt is the right choice for Moriarty. Of course, he might pull a Heath Ledger and impress the hell out of me... but right now I can't help but think there are better choices.

^I don't want Pitt either. I don't know why, but I can't get excited about the thought of him in the role. I'll trust Ritchie to cast the right person regardless.

I hope the writers are able to make Moriarty as epic as he seemed in the brief glimpses we got of him in SH.

Pitt is way to big hollywood star for movies IMO.

So is RDJ now. And Jude Law.

I'm liking what I hear on the news of the possibility of Pitt being Moriarty.

i don't mind if they got Pitt if he was an equal to RDJ, but honestly, I prefer someone a bit visibly older. (Now because Pitt and RDJ are so youthful despite their age, they give off the impression that they're a lot younger than they are.)

I actually think Pitt is a bit underrated as far as being an actor is concerned. I loved him in Snatch, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club and half of Troy. Hated Benjamin Button but that wasn't his fault. I could see him doing well with a director he's worked with before in a villainous role going against type with a ton of makeup.

Don't doubt Pitt. The man is very versatile. I don't really care about age. With the right look, he can pull it off. Pitt is kinda showing in age as of late. Maybe it's the beard?

The list with Weaving , Oldman and other is definately a solid list for Moriarty IMO.
However if people want to actually see their choices in Holmes 2 instead of simply hoping their choices are chosen , i think that you guys need to consider the projects that are currently being offered to them.

Although we haven't got info from WB where they say "we want Holmes 2 in dec 2011 ", all signs point out that WB will go for that date again.
SO if you follow that date , HOlmes 2 might follow the same shooting schedule of the first movie. The first movie began shooting in oct of 2008 so there is a good chance of this movie also being shooting in oct. 2010.

Weaving might be still shooting Captain America when filming starts for Holmes.
Pitt's schedule on the hand seems to be pretty empty. He has movies lined up but not one is in active development currently. Ditto Irons who is my choice for Moriarty. The guy needs to have another juicy role IMO

Could be. They could wind up shooting the movie against a blue screen.
According to Finke he'll begin shooting Gravity this summer shoulf finish in time to begin work on Holmes 2 early fall.

I suggested him in the other SH thread, but I'll mention him here: Colin Firth. He's been nominated for many awards, including an Oscar, and, as I recall, played a pretty cold guy in Mr. Darcy. Plus, he looks old enough to play Moriarty.

Man if Weaving or Oldman were in the next Sherlock movie I would crap my pants.:woot:

Did any of your guys see that interview where they asked RDJ about Sherlock Holmes 2? He mentioned that the film will likely take place in other areas of Europe, and one of the countries he mentioned was Switzerland. If that's true, I think we know where the movie's climax is going to take place...
