Holmes fights Moriarty over a waterfall and finally manages to throw him over the edge.

It wouldn't really be OTT for most action heroes but some people might not accept it from Holmes, though they should after the 2009 movie.

i don't think people would think that. it wouldn't be that much of a stretch from the first one.

not to you specifically RD, but i dont' get this hatred for "this group of people"? where is this coming from. it was a BO success, even under the shadow of Avatar, clearly everyone liked it and didn't think it was over the top or too much physical.

Holmes falling over the waterfall and emerging at the end would be fantastic. It would show that this man is a genius and can get out of anything. Done in the right way, you shouldn't be able to question how he got out of there. Still if the Bourne Ultimatum ending wasn't taken, that would be a great way to end the film.

hahah...now i get it. i thought it was the other way around

Agree. Some people assume that because Sherlock Holmes is a very intellectual character, they do not associate him with the ability to perform physical feats despite these skills being mentioned in the books. What the 2009 movie did was simply extrapolate to show Holmes (and Watson) actually making use of the skills previously mentioned and/or inferred.

A lot of the problem with such a perception can be found in the material itself. Sherlock Holmes is a lot of telling, not showing. You hear about the wonder known as Sherlock Holmes, rather then experience it.

I hope they manage to make this Holmes movie a bit more exciting, I find the 2nd half of the first movie to drag a lot and be quite boring in parts, IMO of course.

I think Holmes explaining everything at the end, while doing a good job of showing his intellect, tends to ruin the movies re-watchability.

If they didn't have Holmes explain everything, you'd be tearing your hair out trying to understand it all. Had to be done

and it doesn't ruin rewatchability for me, as I can watch this movie over and over and over and over again.

After having no desire whatsover for some reason to watch the movie when it came out on the cinema, my curiousity was piqued when I caught a short behind-the-scenes on tv, so I finally watched the movie the other day; and I wasnt expecting much.

Have to say - I thouroughly enjoyed it and genuinely found it to be fun to watch. Now I'm looking towards the sequel and hope that they dont get Pitt. Dont get me wrong, I like the guy as an actor - its just that I think there are actors out their more suited to the role of Moriarty, and that type of role isnt exactly what I would expect to play to Pitt's strength's.

The first one was a terrible movie. If they do a second one I won't see it.

No I wouldnt have, i'd have just assumed that Blackwood did indeed have mystical powers, which would have made it all the more impressive that Holmes defeated him.

I just think on re-watch it reduces Blackwoods threat, I genuinly found him threatening in the movie the first time I watched it, not its been deduced that is was simply a man who needed the help of other geniuses to hatch his plan makes him both non-threatening and seem rather stupid on re-watch IMO.

Yeah, I don't see the DDL going for this type of film. I'd actually prefer Oldman anyway.

Gary Oldman > "evvvvverrrryyyyytthhhhhhiiinnnngggg"

While my groin would explode if Day-Lewis got the part, it's just wishful thinking. DDL has made it abundantly clear that he has no interest in blockbuster movies. Ritchie can try all he wants, but it's not going to happen.

But Gary Oldman is full of win.

Yah, I can't see Lewis doing it either. But Oldman...now that's different.

It's funny the article also mentioned Javier Bardem. He can't do an English accent (or an American) for the life of him. Not his fault of course but that would be brave casting..

I'd actually be ridiculously happy with any of the choices. I'd rank them like this though:
1. Oldman
2. DDL
3. Bardem

I only put DDL second because it's a fair bet he won't want to do it. Bardem could be cool, but really I think everyone would be pleased with Oldman. The guy's golden in everything he's in.

Bardem? The guy can barely speak English...

Yeah, who doesn't want Daniel Day Lewis in their films? He's not gonna do it. But if he does, hell will freeze over. In the meantime, I will be shocked and excited.

Oldman though? HELL. YES.

Oldman opposite of Downey? The world isn't ready for it.

i really wish he would do summer type of films or even super hero films it is like it is below him

well, he cares about his career so I don't blame him too much.

I think it's because smaller, independent films have more to offer in terms of character than typical blockbuster films. Day-Lewis loves him some characters.
