shooter on the va tech campus

^Nope, I don't think it is.
It's very appropriate, because that's already happening.

Seriously? Why am I not surprised? :whatever:

From what my mom told me she said this is the first college shooting in the United States. What's next? Are they going to have to put metal detectors in schools now? What's happening to this world? :csad:

These lyrics pretty much sum up my feelings about this tragedy.

Granted I didn't know the victims personally and probably wouldn't have ever met them, but looking at the pictures, reading the articles, and reading what people have to say about it on here just makes me very sad. These lyrics are from a song called "For Every Tear That Falls" by the band Evergrey.

Stranded on a shore of no light
The waves brings me sorrow
and with a vision of past in my mind
All I crave is to see you back in life

I call your name
But you wont hear me
I seek your eyes but they wont see
And when I reach for your hands
I realise I can't feel them no more

I see your eyes
I feel your pain

Sailing waters I am drifting inside
The wind brings me sadness
And with a vision of pain in my mind
All I wanted was not to see you die

I call you name
But you wont hear me
I seek your eyes but they wont see
And when I'm burning inside
I hope you're there

Cant you see my tears
I see your crying
And I have tried to forget
You'll always be in my mind

I stare the eyes of a man alone
A man I used to care for
A man I used to know
For every tear that falls
A wound grows bigger
Into my already bleeding soul

If I had only been there
Oh god I wish I could have saved you

I still remember the times we shared
I've tried to keep inside the grief I suffer
I can't believe that I been swept away
Like I never existed
As a part of your life

I'm still stranded on the shore of no light
And the same wave still brings me sorrow
And I'm drifting yes drifting inside
And my wound grows bigger
For every tear that falls
For every tear that falls

Wait a sec...
Samaha...that's not a common last name, and girl who lives on my hall has the same last name...oh lord...
edit- OMG!!!
They were related.:wow: :csad:

How did you find out?
If you look on one of the groups, she says thank you to people on the wall.
I wonder if she's ok, It's too late to go see her.
edit- it was her cousin.

Ok word is coming in that the possible motivation was because his girlfriend broke up with him.

What a loser...his motivation was that he was a loser and f***ed up in the head.

Rest in peace all of those that lost their lives and my sympathy goes out to the families. As for the parents of the kid who went on the rampage...they more than likely were bad parents and part of this is their fault.

Oh please I hate that argument. The parents. As someone who works at a boarding school I know lots of awesome awesome parents that have messed up kids. There's a ton beyond their control. So so much. Leave that argument at the door.

I found this on my friends facebook.
I made it my profile pic.

Yea just like the parents of the Columbine kids that had every known weapon to man in their room. You are the person that your parents help you become. People that go on these rampages have something messed up in their heads and show signs of depression, rage, agression, etc...it is up for friends and family to notice these signs before things get out of control. It's like the parents that complain about violent tv and video games. Just don't let your kids watch or play them. But we really don't need to argue over this menial crap...a tragedy just happened and we need to respect those that lost their lives. It just makes me mad that people out there do this kind of crap. I would bring every single one of those murderers back to life and let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives to think about what they've done in their 7 by 5 cell.

Any ideas on how to "prevent" this from happening again?

I think we need to understand why this crazy crack head did this first

There is no easy solution to these types of problems. Here are a few that could either help or hurt.

Mandatory Mental evaluations & background checks for all students & other faculty & staff. Mandatory couples counseling to any couples on the college campus.

Bullet proof doors that require an access code to get in & out of college buildings & or classrooms.

Maybe schools & colleges could install some sort of a tear gas system like sprinkler systems. Sure some students in the hallways would also get gased but armed guards in gas masks could quickly rush in & subdue the bad guy, but then that would probably cause the shooter or shooters to just shoot at anything if he or they couldn't see & either kill or injure more innocent people, the same with students if they got gased & couldn't see they would probably try fighting the armed guards thinking they were the shooter & then more students would get hurt.

Hey guys, I'm a long time reader of the forms, but I haven't posted in awhile, and I have since lost my info to get on here. Thats why it says I just signed up. Anyway, I am a current Senior at VT and as a Hokie I wanted to thank you all for your kind words in this difficult time. Its very sad and things like this upset the entire country, and after Columbine and 9/11 I thought that I knew how loss felt, now I really do know. All my "main" friends are ok as far as I know. But as was discussed, in such a small community chances are very good that I have had classes or know some of the students. I just hate that a university that has given me so much in my four years here will forever be remembered for this. The toll is now 33 including the shooter, with many others injured. I suppose Im just trying to write as some sort of emotional release. So I will most likely ramble for the rest of this. What upsets me the most is seeing those images of places I walk in or around every weekday. I had a class last semester in one of the rooms on the second floor of Norris Hall, and all the news channels say things like rampage and massacre and you really understand how graphic and harmful those phrases are. As of right now, our community waits for word from officials as to the identities of our friends and families, but on a day like this we are all Hokies. We are asking all of the country to wear orange and maroon tomorrow in remembrance of those lost and injured and our heroes already mentioned and stories of our heroes still to come. In relevance to this board I am reminded of an issue of Spider-Man I had during my youth. A gunman pulls his weapon on a women, and her boyfriend steps in front of her and offers himself instead, Spider-Man then comes into the subway cab and disposes of the crook, but then thinks I am not the real hero..the real hero didn't have any powers but instead only had his own courage. I hope we all possess this same courage in a time when it is needed most. Thanks for reading and god bless.

My condolences go out to you, your family and friends.

too costly, schools wouldnt drop the cash needed to hire the dozens if not hundreds of doctors/physicians necessary to make a mental evaluation of the thousands of students/teachers at a school. most schools do provide some sort of counseling center, but to make it manadtory would be near impossible.

Bullet proof doors that require an access code to get in & out of college buildings & or classrooms.
again, too costly. and it wouldnt be too hard for someone to get a door code from a student, and it wouldnt even matter much if the shooter is a student himself, which is often the case.

Maybe schools & colleges could install some sort of a tear gas system like sprinkler systems. Sure some students in the hallways would also get gased but armed guards in gas masks could quickly rush in & subdue the bad guy, but then that would probably cause the shooter or shooters to just shoot at anything if he or they couldn't see & either kill or injure more innocent people, the same with students if they got gased & couldn't see they would probably try fighting the armed guards thinking they were the shooter & then more students would get hurt.

if this were installed, the shooter would likely know and come prepared with a gas mask himself (which is easily attained). then all that results is hallways full of impaired and crippled students who are unable to escape at the mercy of a crazed gunman. and that aside, cost is another likely factor. plus the obvious safety issues.

Can't really say anything that hasn't been said before, but likewise my thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and friends of the victims. I never thought things would ever be worse than Columbine.

And thank you, Mr. Thompson, for using the murders of over 30 people to push along your anti-videogame agenda.:whatever:

it's a lot simpler than that.

The average american CANNOT be trusted with a gun

When are you people going to realise it's time for an outright ban.

Should have happened after columbine, I just hope this wakes people up.

Can't think of a better way to remember those who lost their lives than by making their deaths mean something.

If yesterdays events result in a complete ban on privately owned guns in america then these kids died FOR something. Otherwise it's just a tragic waste of lives.
