It's not like they just chose(in the comics) to make him unable to change back simply for the hell of it. It ties into his whole motivation for being a villain(I happen to like how most Marvel villains each have thier own story as well and their own unique reasons for why they do what they do). For Emil it's the beauty and the beast story gone wrong. It's Ben Grimm/Thing without any sort of moral fiber to keep him as a good guy despite the fact that he hates what has happened to him.
