That is a totally different case then the live action corner. Seesh you really stretching it with with your views on things.
^ Yes, they could. Even if you and many others want to believe otherwise, the factual reality is this:
Sony still flat-out owns the Spider-Man film license and can do anything that they want with it independently of the partnership deal they made with Marvel Studios. This was made patently clear in all of the initial reporting on said deal, and is backed up by the fact that we're getting a 2018 animated movie that is completely unconnected to the MCU and the fact that the only one of Sony's previously-planned live-action Spider projects that has been officially cancelled as a result of this partnership deal is Drew Goddard's Sinister Six.
Actually, we know this is untrue. There is a leaked document which details what Sony can and can't do with the property.
As for Spider-Gwen, Emma Stone was pretty lukewarm on the idea and I don't see anyone else being able to sell the character to the public. Legacy characters like Miles, Mayday, and even Miguel are easier concepts to market than a character that became Spider-Man instead of Peter.
http://variety.com/2015/film/news/sony-hack-peter-parker-spider-man-white-straight-1201524150/I have read through a large portion of the leaked emails and did not see anything pertaining to what Sony can and cannot do with the license, so can you please elaborate on this?
I disagree. I believe Sony could easily make this kind of project work, and it wouldn't be dependent on Emma Stone's involvement in order to do so.
Spider-Gwen mania started well before the series even hit the stands. Emma Stone was an undeniable contributing factor for the recent Gwennaissance. People were not raving about the character when she was played by Bryce Dallas Howard. But what really sealed the deal in terms of Spider-Gwen's popularity was the costume and cosplays of it.
Film is an entirely different market. Your average movie-going audience wouldn't know about Spider-Gwen, and probably wouldn't care. A problem would most definitely arise when replacing Emma Stone. Emma has proven to be a success. There's no guarantee that lightning will strike twice, and that audiences will take to the new actor/actress as much as they did with Emma. You could try to find a viable replacement, but what's the point of investing so much in a brand new AU character who's storyline essentially contradicts/convolutes your flagship hero's?
Who are working with MarvelSpider-Women is likely at Marvel with Miguel, Miles and Mayday. Black Cat is at Sony.
Who are working with Marvel
I would love to see a Spider-Gwen film down the line because I LOVE THE SERIES. Do I think it will happen anytime soon? NO. My real concern is hoping a great Spider-Man film is finally made..
I could see Disney doing an animated film a la BH6, but Spider-Gwen won't be in the MCU.
Agreed.Which means it takes place in the MCU, which means Marvel determines what characters appear in their universe. So a solo Black Cat film would require their participation, assuming they'd want to even consider it for the next decade. Spider-Women is much more realistic in the next 5-10 years.
For a moment I thought this was about twitter when he offed Gwen.Speaking of Emma Stone as Gwen, I'm reminded of this awesome tweet from Gerry Conway.
