Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

  • Yes, they should bring back and use some of the old/classic characters

  • No, start fresh with a whole new set of characters

  • Maybe

  • Why are they even making more films?

They don't need that to make us care about the characters (& if they are *****es it won't help :yay:) but I agree the authenticity of the sequel is reduced if there are hardly any links to the older films.

What if they are compelling characters?

I'm just kind of sick of the limited scope of tying everything ever to the same very small group of characters.

That was an example of how bad passing the torch may be, and Crystal Skull as a film wasn't bad, it was a film fans hated but Critics praised.

I say no, bring in new characters. The old ones could be refferenced, but they wont appear. It's why i'm leaning towards them going 100 years or so into the future. It could be a fresh start to bring in a whole new generation of fans :yay:

I wouldn't expect them to be the focus of the new trilogy, since obviously so many years have passed, but I would love to see them back in some capacity. People go off on how the actors have aged, but seeing older versions of the characters, even in cameo form, sounds kind of cool to me.

i dont understand why any of you think its a good idea to start completely new no offense but thats just a horrible horrible idea. its a series of movies and every single one has been intertwined, its a story. the video games and books are for exploring the universe but if youre going to have "star wars episode 7" then it needs to continue the story. you wanna have a spin off film? thats fine. but star wars 7-8 need to be continuations of the tale. this isnt star trek.

New characters, new story, new struggle/challenges. The Skywalker story has been told, I don't want to see anymore of it (or it's characters).

Well, as far as new characters go, all I can say is they'd better not drop the ball with the villain this time. Because so far, we haven't had a good villain since the original trilogy. Darth Maul was a boring mute who looked cool but did practically nothing, Count Doodoo seemed like a candyass version of Lee's Saruman character, General Grievous was a f***ing joke, Sidious was okay at best and Anakin... do we really even need to go there?

The "passing the torch" idea is good. Basically like Leonard Nimoy in ST'09. We wouldn't need the whole trio, but at least Hamill.

LMAO @ Count Doodoo. I found him reeeeally boring. The only time Grievous was cool was when he was on that CW cartoon a few years back.

I'd say Darth Maul was the coolest out of the prequel villains. Even then, we do need much better villains than what we got in the PT.

yea im happy with all new characters, but it should be connected to the 40 years of established story, i.e.- passing the torch

Grievous was the biggest disappointment ever. In the animated series he wiped the floor with a group of Jedi in one episode, which had you excited for the live-action version... but then no, he turns out to be incompetent (the excuse being Mace Windu's force attack in the cartoon). What were they thinking?!

I really don't know. Grievous had a bright future after the CW series depicted him like that... but the movies just... I don't even wanna talk about it. :csad:

Grievous basically turned out to be like a midcard comedy act. He was the Honkytonk Man.

As far as old characters why not? They clearly don't have to. But as far as say Mark Hamill looking old, this could be far into the future like say Legend of Korra. There its the descandants of the classic characters. Katarra is still there and we saw the classic characters in flashbacks. While in Star Wars they don't really have flashbacks, they could basically make it the next generation of heroes and maybe have one or two characters to anchor them back to the original series from the 1970's and 1980's.

I wouldn't want to see the Skywalker's or anything like that. Set it a century after ROTJ or something like that. The only connection I would like is that the previous movies are the backdrop. The sky is the limit to where you could go with this. It's no longer George's singular vision of things and I think anyone who enjoys at least 1 SW movie should be interested in seeing way more than what we're used too. This is a galaxy that has yet to be really mined for concepts on film. The wait has been long enough.

^A century after the films is still going to have Skywalker descendents. If not through Luke, though I would love for them to keep Ben Skywalker, through Han and Leia.

Plus, GL's original ideas were always to have Hamill reprise the role of Luke Skywalker in a Kenobi capacity..

Who is to say Luke Skywalker couldn't be alive in 100 years?

Entirely possible.

But Cain says he wants no Skywalkers. I don't see that happening. The Saga revolves around Skywalkers. George made Anakin the Force Christ! They can actually have a Da Vinci Code situation with actual descendents of the Force Messiah.

Well if Hamill cares which I don't know if he will then Luke as the Jedi gawd sure. But I don't want to see Hayden C. as Anakin's force ghost or something like that. Have bounty hunters and other types as central characters.

They literally have a whole galaxy to play with. There has to be more going on than just the Skywalker line oh and the jedi should definitely be allowed to marry and such. They should change that after the whole Vader fiasco. The order should've moved beyond that. You have badass jedi couples having kick ass jedi babies lol

I only like the first 3 movies so I never bother with EU stuff beyond video games. I will say though there is so much they could do now and it's made it all refreshing. It's kinda weird waiting on a new SW movie but you also kinda hope that it turns out to be something worth watching. If Star Trek could get revamped in a way beyond what the fans were used too I don't see why SW can't. It's always been the more flexible of the 2.

I just don't want to see old man Han Solo with a toothless Leia. I didn't even see the last Indiana Jones because seeing old man Indy in the trailer was depressing. Outside of Luke maybe just maybe give Lando a cameo. If he's macking it to some foxy ladies in cloud city.

GL says in his head Luke doesn't marry... which, I agree, is a huge mistake. That's what cracked up Anakin and the whole point of hiding Luke and Leia with actual families until they were teenagers was to give them a firmer touchstone with humanity before throwing them into the battle of Jedi vs Sith.

If they were to pick up some time after the New Jedi Order books, and thus wipe out Dark Nest, Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi etc, and use Jacen and Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker as the next generation of heroes that would be cool. They have ready made characters.... They also have a book coming up that's suppose to be a last big adventure for Luke, Han and Leia(in their 60s and 70s no less) which could potentially be a good jumping off point with Jaina Solo, Ben Skywalker and Allana Solo(Han and Leia's grand daughter from their Jedi-turned-Sith and now deceased son Jacen , next in line for the throne of Hapes) all primed to take the lead in new stories.

Did Lucas actually say Luke doesn't marry?

Ultimately it won't be his decision though. However even if he doesn't, Han and Leia could. And we don't necessarily have to see Han and Leia either.

I'd like to see Han, Leia not so much unless Carrie Fisher can do something about her face. For some reason I don't think Leia would get that haggard.

Yeah, GL said Luke doesn't marry in an old Rolling Stone. I think it would be great if they were like "look, George, you have some great ideas here... but we don't want to screw the fans that have been with you when you weren't doing anything and who have stuck with these characters for decades and bought tons of stories you sanctioned. Luke's a dad, get over it. Ben Skywalker is perfect for this new trilogy anyway."
