I did not like the 1987 film and feel like they can tell a better story if remade and show the real work of the Untouchables and how really ruthless Al Capone was. Who agree?

i actually enjoyed the '87 film, though i thought that Deniro was a bit over the top as Capone

this is probably the only Kevin Costner film that i like

I'd like to see a movie on the subject more historically accurate.

I respect your opinion but I feel someone can give a better performance then Kevin Costner and Al Capone unlike De'Nero.

And C Lee I agee I too like to see it historically accurate and no stuff made up or Hollywood it up.

God, I hate Remakes! Especially remakes of remakes! Rabble Rabble Rabble!!!!

Seriously, I'm down for it. Anything over 25 years old is game.

If you make a movie about Elliott Ness....and make it factual...then it won't be a remake.

I think if they do an Untouchables film, it will be based on the TV shows because of the name and rights. If they do a historical film, it would not have resemble the Robert Stack show or the Costner/ Connery late 80's flick. But they probably cannot use Untouchables as the title.

It should be a historical film...what was they trying to do with that 87 flick have it be something esle.

If they have some good ideas, sure. If not, nah.

But really that should be the case for making any movie.

Yes they can. It will be hard to top Sean Connery, but it shouldn't be a direct remake or an exact one. They could get a great screenwriter and director, and it could be awesome. Plus Kevin Costner isn't in it, so there's one thing going for a remake so far.

They were doing a movie inspired by both the fictionalized 60's TV show, and historical data. But the history isn't as flashy as some think, that's why DePalma did his "thing" with the movie.

And did someone say DeNiro was over the top in the DePalma flick? He won an Oscar for it, so apparently he did something right.

I just hope they can get someone as slithery and scene stealing as Billy Drago to play a baddie.

While I like the original quite a bit I would be open for a new version.

DeNiro was not over the top but I beleive someone can do better then what he did as Al Capone....and I do not think it has to be a direct remake but just show how the Untouchables worked as a team to bring down Capone and show why Capone was ao ruthless thats how I want it. Would love if Micheal Mann directed the film. He did good with Public Enemies.

To quote Inglourious Basterds:

In short: HELL NO! The Untouchables is one of my all-time favorite movies and the only mobster film I really LOVE (don't worry, guys; the Godfather 1-2 are still awesome, and the ending to Scarface s one of my all-time favorite endings!). To remake that film today would be useless; there's NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL MOVIE!:cmad:

What would be a better idea is a prequel to this movie. I know there was one planned a while back that was going to be about Capone's rise to power, but I think it got canned. Besides, it didn't seem that appealing to me, anyway. However, I WOULD like to see a film about Jim Malone (Sean Connery's character), his time as a cop, and how he came to hate the mob and learned all those awesome tactics that would come into play when he teams up with Elliot Ness later on in his life. Of course, they'd have to pick a younger actor to play young Malone, but I think it'd be a great prequel to this film!

87 flick was wrong in that it was not a true Untouchables movie and they can do better then that movie.

Since Elliot cowrote the book about his exploits called THE UNTOUCHABLES....I don't see any problem with calling another movie about him during that time the same thing.

Unless the remake is more historically accurate, I'm not sure I see much point in it.

Exactly. It wouldn't necessarily be a remake but a more accurate film and with all these other remakes being made using the exact name(of course since it's a remake)I don't see it confusing people.

The Untouchables is a great crime film and it's well made, but I wouldn't call it a clasic like some would call it. Costner just takes away all that. The rest? Fine, although I got annoyed with Capone making everyone laughing all the time.

I love the movie so much. That being said, I wouldn't say that this film isn't one of those that shouldn't be remade. It was based on a television show, based on historical events. You can't trademark or copyright historical events. As has already been said, I think if anyone were going to tackle the Eliot Ness/Al Capone story, they would have to actually distance themselves from the portrayals in De Palma's movie. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth rehashing, and it wouldn't be taken seriously.

I can see them revisting the story, since it's based on true events, but it doesn't have to be "The Untouchables".

I think they can find a way too distance themselves from the portrayals in the De Palma's movie if they get the right people aboard.

As with any media adoption, someone owns the rights. Maybe not to Ness and his life story, but I'm sure someone owns the untouchables name. There was a show in the 90's too, wasn't there?

Yeah, there was a syndicated series (I think it ran 2 years) in the 90's about Ness and his men.
