Does anyone think that bringing in the Surfer for the FF's second movie is jumping the gun a little?

Don't get me wrong, having the Silver Surfer and Galactus can make for a good movie if done right (the visuals alone I imagine will be impressive on the big screen).

But to me it feels a little too early for it. I'd like to see them develop more as a group before bringing in the cosmic level threats like The Devourer of Worlds (I assume that since the Silver Surfer is in the sequel then Galactus will be as well, I haven't been following things that closely).

Any thoughts?

You are assuming that there will be a 3rd and 4th movie. Both SS and Galactus are in the sequel.

I think the sequel is too soon.

The only date I'd been content with is NEVER.

Clever.:whatever:

I don't think so. The first film was criticized like crazy by critics and fans alike. They may be making a sequel but I don't think they're going to create a series of movies or even a trilogy. On top of that we don't even know for sure that Galactus will be a part of the movie, they could be saving that for a Part 3 if that's the studio's intention.

I dont care how soon it is... I would love to see Silver Surfer. Galactus they better make him exactly how he looks in at least the Marvel Aliance game. Galactus is one of those icons you dont change people like him! There is no ways to make someone like him look 'better'. He's an alien. Jack Kirby creation, anyone thinking they can better him or make him look better is totally arrogant. No one has ever seen Galactus in the big screen before. They should make this happen.

Interesting that some people get upset about a movie they don't even plan to go see.

...Or is someone going to put a gun to your genitals and force you to go?

I've taken great pleasure in the number of people that went to see FF and also bought the DVD despite the massive campaign to try keep people from liking it. It's gotta hurt that it was so successful. A lot of people are very angry at being confronted with how little their opinion effects things.

Rock on FF...and bring on the sequel that is going to make a lot of people mad.

Well I never heard of Glactus, lol. Im just guessing, but they probably wont make him like he is in anything. They tend to change things when goin to big screen. What works in the comics doesn't mean it will work on the big screen.
Far as SS being too soon, I dont think so. The first movie was dismal performance in every aspect. Bringing out a well known(or semi-well known) character to help in drawing ppl is a good thing, especially when the bottom line is making money...

I think he is brought in so early for several reasons.

1) The FF really do not have many cool bad guys that could be done for a modest amount of money (in terms of these movies anyway). Sure the Kree Skrull war would be great but that would be budgeted very high and frankly would be out of place if done before the Surfer and Galactus. The audience needs to see the team battle someone from space before the team is all of a sudden thrust into space in some epic battle.

2) Marvel knows that the popularity of these films is probably winding down. Audiences will start to get burnt out especially as these writers run out of good ideas to write about. Sure the comics have many decades of material to pull from, but realize that most of the comic story lines would either be expensive beyond anything the studios and Marvel are willing to risk as well as many of the stories we know and love from the comic books just would not translate well to the big screen.

3) The rather slow paced and frankly not all that exciting first movie, while still turning a profit, left many fans thinking "Is that it". The movie did not have anything in it to leave anyone really dying for the next installment. Since the movie was still a success they green lit a sequel but realized they need to up the stakes. This second one is going to need to kick the audience in the sack and say "Now you got what you wanted".

I could be wrong and Tim Story could just have a hard on for bald silver coated guys riding around on surfboards in their undies.

The Surfer is not wearing undies. He's been flying around nude for a while. :oldrazz:

So he shows everybody his "platinum chain" eh?

I think they are jumping the gun a bit, but considering the performance/reception of the first one, they probably they had to do something drastic to get people interested in the sequel. It seems to be working, atleast within the comic book community.

well since the first film jumped the shark why not jump the gun too...

Yes they did, it was the cliffhanger - Doom's Return - but I think people didn't respond or didn't care for it too much.

I agree with LongDingDong.Marvel had to bring in something powerful to bring back fans, this might not work. But who`s to say.

Since the first was mediocre, they needed something big to draw the crowds back for a second sitting.
Hell as unknown as he is, I'd think SS would of brought in the crowds if he had his own movie.

Yeah, because .... ya .... know.....no one went to see the first installment....I mean 13th Domestic, and 11th Worldwide in 2005....I don't think there will be anyone coming to see this installment....

Box office numbers doesn't mean the movies that good.
I don't know what the overall reaction to it was, maybe a lot of people went to see it because it was something to bring the kids too, so I guess that market would still be reachable, but if the parents hated the first one maybe they'd need added incentive to go see the second.

I dont see all the hate for the first film. It was an ok movie. If its any movie that should get shuned, its Ghost Rider. I also dont think it's too early for SS. It shocked the hell out of me and came out of nowhere that he was in the movie. From the tesers/tv spot, I'm pretty damn pshyced for this movie. Looks leaps and bounds over the first flim.

I think bring in silver surfer isn't much of a jump, since the first one didn't do so good, I guess this is a way to make the second one more interesting.

What i'm wondering is if the Watcher will make an appearance. After all, in the comics he was the one who warned Reed of galactus' coming.

Maybe or maybe not. The film does not have to be the same as the comic. As long as the story line is good and the action is intense I am a happy person. I read the comics for myself not for others; so if others don't really know the story line they are missing out thats all.
