I've seen the movie many times, and was thinking about some similarities (not outright homages) to some popular stories in the books...

was anyone else reminded of The Man Who Laughs while watching it???

what other comic stories did this movie remind you of???

The scene were Harvey is in court prosecuting the witness who'll testify against Maroni and takes the blame reminded me of the court scene in The Godfather 2.

Sorry couldn't think of a comic so I chose a movie.

Harvey Dent being burned and losing his fiancee/wife then becoming bad, was eerily similar to the fall of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Star Wars.

i really dont get how you ppl of all ppl dont knwo that he took his ideas from the following

: man who laughs

long halloween

killing joke

Yeah but Rachel Dawes was created for the movies. Rachel dying had nothing to do with those comics, or any comics.

Her dying had nothing to do with the fall of Harvey Dent in the comics, so, stating he took his ideas from those comics is ignorant to what I was saying.

that's why i started the thread, to see what comics TDK reminded you of... not movies... comics

best post so far Deadshot

TDK reminded me of sex with double-jointed lesbians that bring me cookies and cherry coke when I'm spent.

Truly ******* amazing.

Oh, and a mix between TMWL and TLH  :)

Someone do this:

Watch Terminator 3's crane chase. The trip wire and the vertical tilt is basically the same as The Dark Knights 18 wheeler chase.

They should have brought you Fallafel

there was one ffight scene at the end when Joker hangs upside down, that kinda reminds me of Batman # 1 (1940)

i re-read the killing joke yesterday and i see similarities between TDK and the killing joke. its all about joker trying to corrupt people and show that any normal man (gordon in the comic, dent in the film) can be brought down to his level from just one bad day. and dent deffinatly had a bad day!!

Yeah...

The Man Who Laughs was that one that came to my mind first. Same with The Killing Joke, and also The Long Halloween. Batman's sonar system reminded me of the Brother Eye.

There was also some stuff that reminded me of The Dark Knight Returns.

when I saw that he had copycats, FOR SOME REASON I WAS THINKING... sons of the batman just like in DKR

I definitely felt The Man Who Laughs similarities during the beginning and middle

batman #1 (joker's first appearance) and the modern retelling "the man who laughs"
the killing joke
the long halloween and dark victory
year one
the dark knight returns
year 100

I saw plenty of similarities in this film, right out of the comics and graphic novels.

Could be a little Jean Paul Valley's part of Knightfall with the added tech/protection/enhancement to the suit

I thought of Long Halloween and the Killing Joke.

Killing Joke because Mistah J was tryin to convince the world that anyon could have a bad day and turn out like him.

Comics it obviously was inspired by in the screenplay stage and even the framing or imagery of some shots (like the triumvirate on the roof with the bat signal):

The Killing Joke-Joker's philosophy, a dubious backstory with multiple choices and motive of proving to the world everyone can become just like him).

Batman #1/The Man Who Laughs remake-Joker causing pure anarchy and announcing who he will kill and does so in creative ways for no real reason

The Long Halloween being the most apparent-Batman, Gordon and Dent form an uneasy triumvirate to take down the city's mobsters and while they succeed in some way, it is not without ushering in the age of the freaks and Dent being scarred and falling to the dark side with Gordon's police unit in ruins and Batman utterly alone and disillusioned.

This is all really obvious. But movies that influenced Nolan in how he made the movie look, pace, move and tell its story, I saw:

-Heat
-The Man Who Laughs
-The Big Heat (if you've watched this you will know Two-Face is dead)
-The Godfather Part II
-Mean Streets (maybe)
-The Untouchables (maybe)

Also the way it was edited and moved felt very much like a Scorcesse movie at times.

I'm just glad that THIS director actually reads the comics BEFORE makin the movie.

Tim burton didn't.

That's why Jack Joker came out warped in the wash.
