Simon Kinberg to produce and write new trilogy

As a producer, I like Kinberg, and he's worked on Star Wars Rebels, so he's at least familiar with the franchise. But as a writer, that of course leaves a lot to be desired. The saving grace is that he's not directing, but the film will need a hell of a director to look at that script. He may have helped write Days of Future Past, but it wasn't solely his doing.

This is all assuming that this project even happens, anyway.

While I like a whole new path forward, I’m dubious that Disney would greenlight an entire new trilogy with new characters without having seen how that first movie does before going ahead with two more.

Disney at this point likes a safer bet, so episodes 10-12 is a safer route with classic characters mixed with new.

This is the ultimate monkeys paw move

Bringing in one writer to oversee a narratively cohesive trilogy? Great, about damn time. Oh, It’s Simon Kinberg? Nope. No thanks.

Good lord, Disney.
Who's the mother****er that would wish for another sequel trilogy?

Lol just why?

I'm baffled why this guy continues to write scripts for movies for big film studios. Haven't they seen the films he was a writer and he was a director...

I think people are missing his big connection to this. He’s the co-creator of Rebels.

Lucasfilm are trolling at this point. Kinberg gets a whole trilogy. That is good.

Man was able to get 2 films with disasterous directors out the door. Frankly, I have more confidence in him getting this made than the others.

That said, I suspect this is a payoff in order to get him to let go of whatever contracts has him connected to the X films.

You literally think of everything.

That sounds so feasible.

Can't say that I saw this coming.
