Skaar: Son of Hulk by Greg Pak and Ron Garney

The fight was awesome and Corp and Spoons just wish that Hulk would go back to his Planet Hulk personality right away for the entire issue even though it would make no sense and would be ******ed if they did that.

Yeah, cuz watching a spoiled brat try to antagonize a ****** is full of win? Haha, dumb Hulk doesn't care about anything besides being left alone. I just want to see a good fight with some actual story and motivation behind it(I get enough mindless punching in Rulk's book). And apparently, the only way this new dumb green Hulk will have anything interesting to say is if he turns into Green Scar, Joe Fixit, or Wendihulk :o

I agree, it would have felt rushed if they did it so soon. Just hoping it happens before they fight next.

If you're implying that it had no story or motivation behind it, I disagree. I think Skaar pretty much outlined the motivation behind it. In fact, I think the fact that he was changing personalities had a lot to say storytelling-wise about what's going on with the Hulk right now.

And Hulk had his PH personality for the first half of the issue -- pretty much the entire fight with Skaar. It's just reinforcing that there was a reason we haven't seen the "Green Scar" since WWH. It's not like he was the dumb Hulk the entire time or anything.

He seemed pretty dumb to me, and he had no memory of anything. How does that qualify as the Green Scar?

I agree that the brief flicker of recognition does speak volumes about what's going on with the Hulk, but it still doesn't make for as satisfying a fight as we could've had if the Hulk managed to slip into full-scale Green Scar mode.

You can tell it's the "green scar" because of the way he talks/acts. Read the whole first half. He starts off by talking to Skaar and saying, "You. Like a buzzing in my ears... Calling for the Hulk. Well now you got him. So show yourself."

That isn't how the dumb Hulk talks. You can also tell because he's got that calm meanness to him. Smarter and more badass.

So he's an amnesiac Green Scar at best, which is still unsatisfying.

That's not how I understood it at all. The way I see it, [blackout]he went to his Green Scar personality, wooped ass on Skaar because he was calling him out, then when Skaar brought up all the stuff that he did bad, Banner reverted him to the dumb Hulk personality so he wouldn't remember and go crazy. Then he looked at Skaar's eyes, remembered Caira, reverted back to his "green scar" personality, remembered all the stuff that made him crazy mad during WWH until Banner could stop him again and change the personality.[/blackout]

And it did a lot to explain why we haven't seen Hulk's PH personality lately with Loeb's crappy Hulk book.

God, I'd hate to see how Loeb would write Green Scar Hulk, but I would like to see that persona meet Rulk.

Damn! That would be SICK! Especially if Pak got to write it.

Yeah, not even just the fighting but the dialogue. Look at me, clamoring for dialogue in a hulk comic haha

Okay... totally confused. So Skaar's story continues in Incredible Hulk 601. That's fine and the solicits show him as an ongoing character there. But apparently he's also up in space trying take on Galactus in "Son of Hulk" which no longer has Skaar's name attached to it.

Can someone please explain to me what the heck is going on? I don't want t read Incredible Hulk because of the $4 price tag, but I like the Skaar book and the space setting.

I'm confused.

Help me.

Skaar's not in Son of Hulk anymore. That's gonna follow a different character--this Shadow Priest kid who was in earlier issues of Son of Hulk. Skaar's on Earth hanging with Bruce Banner starting with Incredible Hulk #601.

Agreed! I'm surprised people didn't notice it more. Hulk went through like 3 personalities in the issue and I think it says more about what's going on with the Hulk and what's about to go on with him. Green Scar was literally hiding inside Bruce becuase he didnt' want to face Skaar or his hurts from the past. I think we will see him soon but not so much so in a fight but just facing his demons and his pain from the planet. Great issue IMHO.

Is he the son of Hulk too?

^Green Scar wouldn't "hide" from anything
Dude, Docker's right. Re-read the issue or something because I'm 100% sure that was what's being implied there.

Pay attention and you'll find that the first moment he changes into the dumb Hulk is when Skaar confronted him with all of the mistakes Hulk made during WWH.

Docker hit the nail on the head.

I don't know. I don't think so, but he might be the true Sakaarson, just as Skaar proved to be the true Worldbreaker.
I stopped reading Skaar and only picked it back up when he landed on Earth, which was the only reason I wanted to read it in the first place was to get to that moment. So I really have no idea what went on in the series past the second issue.

Basically, Skaar is a dick with some inherent heroic tendencies, he learns about the Oldpower and wants it, he gets it and threatens the entire planet with it because he has no restraint, Caiera tries to stop him and move him more to the heroic side by showing him that he's drawing Galactus to Sakaar with the Oldpower, Skaar decides the best way to fix that is to try and kill Galactus, Caiera realizes she's failed and sends Skaar to Earth, Galactus devours Sakaar.

Yeah, you should pick up the parts you missed of Skaar because it was really, really good.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Skaar will be returning to the "Son of Hulk" book after Planet Skaar is over. I really doubt that he would stay on Earth and the book's called Son of Hulk so he's gotta be in it again eventually.

Re-read it. I think it's plain as day what he was doing. We saw Green Scar for a moment then he went dumb again becuase of what Skaar said.

Anyone think Green Scar is like pre-Miestro?

No. He's not evil and self-serving. He's a jerk, but he's a jerk who generally does the right thing and helps people where he can.

Ok, is there some difference between the Green Scar and the Planet Hulk personas? I was under the impression that they were one in the same; just that the latter is/was pissed that Reed and Tony blew his wife and kid up.

No difference. The Green Scar = Planet Hulk. The WWH Hulk was more powerful but his personality was the same as the Green Scar's, so I consider him the Green Scar with a temporary power boost.
