I tried all those things with my parents' cigarettes when I was a kid- I tried every approach. It never works.
She eventually quit a few years later, then started again "due to stress" and then quit again, but I doubt my cigarette destroying acts had much to do with it.

Yes, it's a disgusting habit. No, it's not the worst habit. I'd rather be around a smoker than a drunk or a junkie. As long as a cigarette smoker keeps his/her smoke away from me, we have no problems. With substance abuse people, you never know what they might do or who they might hurt.

I've been off for over a year now and I'd say no, it's definately not. I think people get way too hysterical over smokers, and the one thing I cannot stand is condescending former smokers with that holier than thou attitude. I quit cause of health reasons, but I try to make sure I never become one of those pathetic smug bastards. I love going over to europe and getting those packs with the giant warning labels talking about how evil you are to smoke. I collect them, they're pretty funny.

For me overeating is by far the most disgusting habit. Unless it's a genetic thing there's no need to be 300lbs and wearing spandex while cramming 8 happy meals down your gullet with a large coke and taking up an entire isle with just your left buttcheek. Smoking doesn't physically repulse me, but fat people...gross. People here saying smoking's the worst and you'd never date a smoker think which you'd rather date, a smoker or someone really fat.

FTFW:up::up:

You have to love the cig smokers though...they are the most adamant mother****ers in existence about what they do, and do not give up their stance without a knockdown brawl.

The art of smoking. The art of sucking and blowing?

I don't know if its really considered art, but I think there is an artistic element to it found in movies, especially Film Noir.

Smoking, sadly, is not an artistic practice. Yes, it can lead to nice cinematography in certain films, but in real life, it's about as artistic as Boy George.

Film can romanticize just about anything, with the right characters and story. If you took everything in film noir for face value, the life of a P.I. is filled with murder mystery every other week. The truth is hardly close to that. It's up to the viewer to acknowledge that fantasy can add that gloss to the truth.

I smoke and I will infect all of you non-smokers with my evil second hand smoke! BREATHE IT IN!!!!!! MWAHAHAHA!!

That is going to be the new villain in my new comic book series. Cigarette Man. His Second Hand Smoke blaster incapcitates his opponent.

I smoke, wish I didn't so I'm gonna quit soon. I don't appreciate people preaching to me about smoking though. It's definitely not the most disgusting habit or addiction. Being a piss head or morbidly obese is much worse. If it's just in their genes and can't do nothing about it, fair enough. But I hate the fat people who are fat solely because they stuff their face, then they complain about being bullied and that it isn't their fault.

Smoking a cigarette is a waste of a cigarette :D

**** that, maybe if you said "smoking a phillie is a waste of a phillie" then I'd agree, but cigarettes? What else are you supposed to do when you finish your blunt or bowl? First thing I always do is reach for a newport =(

Except potheads. We just tend to sit around and do very little.

You should change your name to Captain_Ironlung88, and then proceed to post in italics. :word:

I just read this entire thread.

Now I need a smoke.

Maybe some people don't appreciate being treated like crap because people are offended by a habit that they keep to themselves because they know that other people can afford better releases of stress.
EDIT: Run-on sentences ftw

My younger sister picked up smoking a couple years ago, and I know a lot of why she did it is because she thinks it looks "artsy." She has all these "artistic" photos she took of herself smoking...so ******ed.

No offense to your sister, but that just sounds really stupid. Perfect example of following the crowd.

You notice smoking is the "in" thing again for chicks over 30. Most tv shows that are of the Sex and the City variety now applaud the females that smoke, and if a guy offers her one, dude is a catch.

One thing that always blows my mind is all the nurses I see smoking when I walk by the hospital.

My dad honestly doesn't believe that smoking causes health problems. He thinks it's all media exaggeration or something. :down
