For the past two and half years I have been working for this major retail chain ( I will not say who here ), and busting my butt for them. I started ou there just stocking shleves part time and within three short months became a full time salesman in their specialty apparal department ( I can't give the name brand or it gives it away ).
After a year of being the top in sales and customer service I am promoted to a seasonal lead ( that is a managment job that just lasts the Christmas season ). I do so well there that I will an award for top customer service rep for the fourth quarter and I get promoted again to softlines lead of the whole store. So basicly iIgot from making $6.55 an hour to $14.00 and hour within a years time.
Everything is going great at this point. My area becomes #1 in the district in sales, #2 in the region and #18 In the nation. So you could say I was doing my job right. At that time my direct supervisor the ASM of softlines goes on materity leave, and tells me she doesn't plan to come back, but not to tell anyone yet. The store manager at the time tells me that they want me to keep up the good work because if the ASM doesn't come back I am going to be an ASM making $43,000 a year and they want me to have the job.
Well right around the time that my old ASM is to call and say she isn't coming back and to give me her job, the store manager is forced to retire by the company. So this puts my next promotion on hold. About three weeks later we get a new store manager that come in and says that none of us are doing are jobs right and we need trained. I am shocked at this as we are #1 like I said.
So I schedule a meeting with the new Mgr and ask about my scheduled promotion. I am told I need training first, and that they will train me personally. I don't have a problem with this as long as I get what I was promised.
A week later I have still not stated training, but it has been busy so i don't complain too much. It is at that time I am called into the Mgr's office and told i am still doing things wrong so I remind them that they said they would train me. I am told to go online and get what I need to train there. I do this and do what the infomation says to do. So every thing should be ok right? Well it is not. more on that later.
In this time the Mgr has been hiring more staff members and tells us that we need more mgrs to help with the rise in sales. makes sense to all of us. I am told that they have hired a mgr in training for my area and I am to train that person so they can move up and have their own store to go to. Well if I am training them then that must mean that I am doing my job right now. Wrong again.
A week after that I am called into the mgr's office and told again I don't do my job right and that this is my last chance, but I am not getting a week to do it right I am getting two days. Well there is a problem with that I am off the next two days and I can't come in because I can't have over time. So I am told to leave a detailed note of what I want done with my team and another mgr so that work gets done on time. Sounds easy, but wait.
I come back to find that nothing on my list was done, and that the mgr I asked to check on them was told by the store mgr not to. I ask my team what went wrong and I am told that the store mgr said they were not to follow my list and just do what they wanted to do. Now I am angry. I was set up to fail.
I go to the store mgr and ask what the problem is? I say ok, you want me to be more of a mgr then I am firing the whole team because they didn't do anything on my list. It is then that I am told that I can't do that, it isn't there fault they didn't do the work it is mine because I didn't check up on them and that other mgrs don't have time to check on my team. When I remind the mgr what they told me to do I am told they are sick of my excuses and that I am fired and the person I trained is my replacement and were the whole time.
I found out that this is going to happen to all of the other staff members since we all were traing our replacements. I just can't believe that after working there so long I get fired because the new mgr doesn't want the old mgr's staff.
So here I am with out work and fighting for unemployment and to find new work in a struggling economy. This sucks. So if anyone has any ideas or job leads out there I would love to hear them. I would even relocate my famliy if I have to.
