I just got in a fight with a friend

Because I told him that I got creeped out by something I saw on Ghost Hunters and he was mocking me for sort of believing in the supernatural. My stance is that something happens when we die, and since I don't know what it is, that I am open to believe that occasionally something gets left behind. I've had weird **** happen, as I am sure many of you have, and since I can't prove it is natural what is the big deal about remaining open to it being supernatural? Basically, he was calling me stupid, without going so far as to say the words, and so I told him off. Then he was all pissed at me and said, "We'll just talk later." and hung up.

Am I wrong for getting upset about this? I mean, I don't mock him for believing that when we die that's all she wrote. I believe that when I am sad about my son he sends me butterflies. Who does it hurt to believe that? It's not like I am proclaiming my beliefs on a soap box outside the mall or anything.

Look, I believe in ghosts because of weird experiences in my life, and if I mention it and someone calls me "stupid"... well I understand why it would be hard for someone to believe me. Hell if you came up to me and were like "I believe that Charles Manson is the son of God," I would too say "youre an idiot" just because of my moral upbringing. Perhaps it's hard for him to grasp these kinds of beliefs and the fight should be discarded as "you're both hella tired" banter?

Nothing will ever beat the time my friend and I were cleaning out the garage at my old house (where I had 10 years of experiences as it was), and I hear him scream and run out into the yard saying "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!" I grab him and look at his white shirt and theres this big brown handprint on his side that was still pressing and finally let off. I told him to put his hand on it, and the print was way too big to be his.

Both of his hands were on the heavy ass vacuum, and I know I didnt touch his side.

I laugh. Then I say "Cool." To keep up the charade, like I really find it funny. Then in a monotone voice I'm like, "Shut the f**k up." It's cool. I don't do it much.

Anyway truth be told, I think you hold some of the blame, first for opening up and second for reacting to his original taunts.

If you truelly believe in something, then the taunts of others shouldn't affect you, especially if you are adult. People are bound to disagree on many subject especially one as sensitive as the afterlife and so forth. If you put your thoughts out there, you need to be able to deal with the consequences that people may disagree or even mock.

What you should have done is either take it like a shoulder and come out smelling of roses so he doesn't think it's a sensitive area with you (because now he knows exactly how to piss you off and what to say to get on our nerves) or you should have jokingly mocked him for not believing. I mean truth be told, your stance is just as likely as his is so you have every right to mock just as you were mocked.

By making a deal out of it has given him the edge because it comes across as your are sensitive about it and sensitivitity about the unknown can usually be looked at as uncertainty which makes him come across as he's right and the fact that he's right has gotten to you.


I dunno Dew, you get taunts regularly from old members of the hype and all that hate your guts for banning, probation etc and you take that all on the chin, perhaps because you can rationalise it as they don't know you. This seems to be a far less stressful situation but ya let it get to ya. I thought you had tougher skin.

dude the show is awesome in so many way. I mean I believe that there is life after death and there are signs of it on so many websites and even on tv these days that can capture the shyt that happens.

I just hate the really fake ones that have a guy who is pretending who is possessed by a ghost and trying to scare everyone into believing it is real. That pisses me off.

I'm not real! then what am I, oh NO all life as I know it is disappearing from me body, what...the..hell..is...happening to me?

Dude we all suffer losses I've lost my mom, my great job and my kick ass apartment all the in the same month this year. Plus I've seen the unexplained happen (things moving or being tossed, and even a door slam when no one else was around but myself.)

Well... my personal stance on this stuff is if I think someone's beliefs are ridiculous I should feel no need to respect those beliefs.
However, this guy is your friend, so he probably could have done it in a more tactful manner... certainly I can understand feeling upset about it, not because of any rationale behind believing in the supernatural, but because... like I said... he's your friend.
