So, I just turned down two promotions.

Which leads me to believe I'm a moron.

That aside, who else here has been in my position and made this kind of decision?

For me, while both offers were definite promotions, they were both away from the area I work now and away from the people I work with now, and I just couldn't bring myself to jeopardize something I love so much, for the possibility of something just as good, and an extra 3 bucks an hour. It just didn't seem worth it to me.

Its your choice.......:o

I was offered a key manager position at work, with a couple bucks raise. I turned it down to transfer to a workplace 30 miles closer to my apartment.

Seems to me like you let your fear of something new stop you from taking a risk. But if you're happy with your station in life right now then more power to you...just hope you don't regret it down the road.

Now that's understandable...that extra couple of bucks would be wasted in gas anyway.

Probably made the right decision, grass isn't always greener and what not.

It wasn't so much fear, just that...I have a knowledge of what both promotions would entail (at least, from an outsider's prospective), and don't have any interest in either of them.

If I took it, it'd be more because it's a promotion, because it would (hopefully) give me a better chance of getting the promotion I actually want. And it just didn't seem right to enter into something like that.

Then to me you made the right decision...I'll take job satisfaction over money anyday.

Yeah. The kinda crappy thing is, the promotion I DO want is going to be filled by someone else. I can't really blame my boss for making that decision though. I mean, I'm 19, I've only been there for 9 months, and the position I want is to supervise basically the most strenuous part of the store. She said she knows I could do it, but she doesn't want me to get...disgusted by the workload of it.

You're a young guy, so this is not a big deal. If you're happy where you are, then keep on truckin' and don't look back.

bad idea.you should have taken them, youd be able to accomplish more.

Money's not everything.

A lady I work with was promoted... now she earns less money because her job position doesn't pay overtime, but she still works the same amount of time and is basically doing the same job.

All depends on whether the promotion was a "title" only upgrade.

Decisions like that can be tough :(

You gotta do whatever you're not going to regret later

Not all promotions are actually promotions. Sometimes it's more work for the same or less pay. Sometimes it's a change in responsibilities to doing something that you wouldn't enjoy as much as what you currently do. It has to be the right fit for you, personally, or it's not really a promotion.

 :wow:

Who cares then! You can just quit your job at go be a bum, and still get away with it. Don't be tied down by familiar coworkers yet!? You're too young for that!!

I had no clue you were that young CConn.

Anyhoo, I have a lot of respect for you. Sometimes the environment is much better than the pay. And the 3 dollar an hour raise is not that much were it would have been stupid to turn it down.

I'm sure your supervisor will remember this and you may even get something better out of it.

I think if you are happy you have definitely made the right decision.

If you don't need the money, then don't do it. As for the rest of us out of our parent's house, we do need it.

I don't know . . . I would say it's kind of foolish and naive to turn down a good promotion, especially if you're on some kind of career path . . . but if it's real far from where you currently commute, those gas prices certainly factor into the equation . . .

nevermind . . . I just read more of this thread . . . you're pretty young dude; have a little fun for now, and you could always find another retail job; are you in school?

You're still alive? I gotta fire that ninja.
