So I just got assaulted

People. I was between him and my car. I didn't have a chance to fight him back without him smashing me in the face with it. I couldn't run until he moved. And once I got the pole, I had no reason to run.

Our point is that you can't base possible scenarios on exact statements. I'm agreeing with you that you did the right thing morally by not taking advantage of a drunk man and beating his ass, however, I am also saying that it's not entirely too bright to stand off and allow this to happen without even attempting to end the situation [and no, blocking with your shoulder is not an attempt to end a fight].

He was like ten years older than me.
He had a pole.
I couldn't have done it even if I wanted to. Well, maybe. But whatever.

And when I DID get the pole, I was in no danger except his spit. I didn't have a reason to beat the crap out of him.

And I hold my morals very close to me.

EDIT: And I think I did prevent more hits than I would have. I agreed with him on most things (I am NOT a Cardinals fan, but I told him I was), remained calm, all that stuff. I convinced him several times to not hit me and to talk.

I didn't know he was drunk at first. And I couldn't get to my car quick enough.

He was walking around with a poll hitting cars. What exactly made him conversation worthy?

Okay, I need to lay it out for you [I'm not trying to be a jerk but I don't think I've been clear]:

Age has absolutely nothing to do with ability, unless you're going to fight a 5-year old. True, the pole made things dangerous, but it very well could have been a situation of take further punishment, or take matters into your own hands. You got very lucky by the fact that he stopped, but luck gives you no credibility in fights.

As for hitting him with the bat, like I said, if you wanted to, you could have beat him and bull****ted a story. However, I was not stating that you should beat him down once you got the pole from him. If he had attacked you afterward, then I would have said you should have beaten him. However, I had stated each time that you should have retaliated when he attacked you, not after the pole was taken from him.

I know age doesn't matter. But he was bigger. If he had not stopped, then I would have tried harder to attack. But I had no opening at that time. He'd hit me once, stop. Hit me, stop. It wasn't a constant barrage. He could hit me again if I came forward to attack. Having him come at me was easier to dodge/block than me coming at him and hitting me across the head. If he was going all-out, I could have escaped more easily.

Size makes no huge difference either. Unless you're wrestling.

And I still don't see any reason why you should not have taken him on.

Size doesn't matter an extremely high amount also, yes, but he also had a weapon. And it's not like I'm Batman. I do well in fights, but I've never taken on someone with a weapon

I'm also guessing you're not heavily involved with any martial arts...

Nope, most exp I have is Tae Kwon Doe a very long time ago, and I only got to Green Belt.

you should have shoved that pole right up his ass...stood on top of him as if claiming land in your name...and waited for the cops to show up.

Great story.

Tuck me in and turn off the light?
ohh great reply.

i don't get why, but no one really spots the gems hidden in the clutter of these threads.

So let me get this straight you witness man beating the hell out of cars with a pole. He then starts walking towards you, & you don't anything but stand there? You don't go back into the theatre? Start walking away calmly. Nothing?! Not to big on smarts are you there cheif?

Alot of these posters have been very nice with the responses, but I am sorry this is just crazy. You should have defended yourself. I don't care what he had! You don't let another person smack you around like that. Or you should have avoided the situation. Not stand there like an idiot. Your friend although apologetic later, was probably laughing his a** off at the fact that you were to stupid to leave.

You my friend get your Dude License Taken, & win a Darwin award. Congrats!

Sounds like he was looking for a fight, a reaction from u. U did good not hitting him.

in the great state of illinois, all he has to do is hit you and you can claim self defense. which for me would mean I'd wait for him to hit me first, then beat the drunk right out of him and a little something to remember in the knee

I can't run through things. I am not telekinetic, and I am not Shadowcat.

Yes, he definitely was. He kept telling me to hit him.

Glad to hear you weren't too badly hurt.

A few years back my hubby and his best buddy were headed home from a bar. They were walking and two twits thought that hubby & buddy were drunk enough to mug. The two twits were wrong and ended up regretting the experience... the would be theives managed to take off and hubby and his buddy weren't hurt at all - so there was no reason to file a police report.

So...what you're saying is...you're not Superman.

...
Okay, I can see how that could be a problem.

That's ok, not everyone's meant to be a superhero, I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

My friend and I were talking in a parking lot after seeing Saw 3. Aftr a while, a man came around hitting cars with a wooden pole. Asking what we were looking at, I said "Nothing". I was planning on calling the cops inside the theater, but he started walking towards us. My friend says "We better relocate" and got in his car quickly and sped off. He thought I was right behind him in my car, but I didn't go. The guy talked to me for a while, asking for my stats, to which I gave him lies.

I then noticed he was very drunk. He was asking the same questions over and over, and had slurred speech. He offered me Vodka in a bottle, which I declined (I'm underage). Then, he hit me with the pole.

He was aiming for my head, but I blocked it with my hand, and it deflected, and ended up hitting my car. He swung again, and I blocked again with my forearm, and it once again hit my car. Then my friend called.

He heard yelling and cursing and me saying "AH!" as he hit me for a third time in the shoulder. I told him to call the cops.

He got angry. He started cursing some more, asking if I just called the cops. I told him "The cops don't randomly call people! I'd have to call them!" but logic was not his friend. He gave me the bat and told me to hit him in the head. I did not, because I know the law is I have to try to run away before it can be self-defense, and I didn't run away because I wanted him to be arrested. I called the cops. He couldn't decide if he wanted to attack me or run away. He fell down a few times running. Eventually he did run away, going into his house which was very close by. Then, a cop came, and not just any cop, but this cop is one of my friend's dad. So we went to a bar, cause it was nearby, and turns out he was kicked out of the place. Then, we went to his house where two other police vehicles already were. He was taken away.

I then drove myself to the police station, and my friend got there the same time I did. He thought I was right behind him and said he was very sorry. I laughed it off, I really was/am fine with it. We gave our stories to the police, had pictures of my bodily damage and car damage taken, etc.

The guy threatened and attacked an officer, too. He threatened their families. He's in big trouble.

This will make you feel better.

LOL I live for moments like that. I love to fight and any opportunity to beat the living sh** out of someone who truly deserves it, I'll take it.

Glad you're okay.
