Ant-Man So, I'm a casual, why should I be excited for this?

I'm quite sure they would've used Pym in some capacity if not for this film.Pym has a rich history with the Avengers.

but a weak story as a solo adventurer; hence them pairing him with Scott Lang. and, last i heard, the plan was always to recast Iron Man once RDj is done. Iron Man's the straw that stirs the drink. Pym would still have been deprived of Ultron.

Wright's plans were in place prior to there being an MCU.But rather than say,"Hey,Ed.You know,we decided to have a connected universe with these films. You'll have to adapt your 'vision' like favreau, branagh and johnson did to suit our plans, otherwise you're out." they're like "Y'know what?Screw Hank Pym.Who really gives a bleep what we do with Ant-Man anyway? The people that are actually into the character will just be happy that he even gets a big screen movie."

You have to reread that statement, "Wrights plans were in place prior to there being an MCU". Ant-Man was pitched in 2005, it's now scheduled for release in 2015. Iron Man never had a fully developed script, only a loose outline, and dialogue written by various on hand writers before every shoot, but they needed to make that 2008 release date. If ant-man was that important to them, or they really wanted Pym, they wouldn't have let the project sit a decade.

I agree Pym is as strong a character as Tony Stark, but I trust they like where wright is heading with Lang.

Spoken like a true moron. Like I said, I'm just a casual movie goer. I don't care for either Rudd or Douglas, they're kind of boring and bland compared to other older actors like Downey Jr and Jackson, so that's why I'm not just feeling the hype to this, so that's why I asked you all, what will make this movie stand out? What is so great about the characters/story? Quit being *****ey snobs and help me out here.

PS, too bad Nick Frost, Martin Freeman or Simon Pegg aren't in this, then maybe I might be a bit more excited.

I remember I when the news of Downey Jr playing iron man broke, everyone was mad because iron man was "an alcoholic, not a crackhead". Chris Evans too was slammed, honestly at this point we should let marvel do as they will.

Prior to the MCU,people could've said that about Iron Man,Cap & Thor.(Well, they actually did say that.)

I think they were waiting on Wright.I'm sure they'd like to have done this film by now.But yeah, admittedly Marvel hasn't shown a ton of faith in Ant-Man/Pym beyond this.

Iron Man (Demon in the Bottle, Armor Wars, etc), Captain America, and Thor all have decades worth of stories to choose from (or, at least, decent archenemies); they had ongoings. which of Pym's stories would you have used for the movie?

Comrade X?
jeweler disguising himself with platform shoes?
Porcupine?
Scarlet Beetle?
the Human Top embarrassing him until he puts glue on his gloves?
that magician and his trick rabbit?
old guy with the gun that makes people old?

all of his good stuff happened after he became an Avenger. and, coincidentally, that's about when he stopped being Ant-Man.

Well, point taken, but with like 50 years worth of material to pick though,I trust TPTB @ Marvel to come up with something compelling.

They could've easily given him a prominent role in one of the Avengers films and then spin him off into a solo.

yeah, after they are done with Iron Man and Banner as the science bros. so instead of waiting a few months for news on the current project, we'd be waiting another decade for Pym to appear in an Avengers movie; just in time for the general audience to be burnt out on this sort of thing. and what they'll say is, "uhhh so Patrick Wilson (or whomever) is playing a smart guy like Tony Stark but he shrinks and isn't as charismatic as RDj?"

and why is Jan never considered in these discussions? it's like she's just an accessory or something. as a light-hearted female, she would be less redundant than another inventor type. i get that you'd rather have Pym than Lang. but why wouldn't they just make Jan the scientist, give her a prominent role in one of the Avengers movies, and then spin her off into a solo?

I guess we can cross "Because Edgar Wright is directing" off the list.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic right now. And I guess Marvel don't have much faith in the movie, or they wouldn't be casting well known veterans like Douglas and Rudd. Most of the time, they cast under the radar actors so their star power don't take away from the characters.

Lmao.

So, again, why should I be excited for this? I'm excited as hell for GOTG, just the premise was intriguing. The cast is growing on me by the minute, and the trailers are awesome. And I don't even know who in the hell the director is, nor do I really care.

So, the only thing Ant Man had anything remotely going for it, for me, was that Edgar Write was directing. (I love his trilogy, that was co-penned with Simon Pegg) but now that he's out:shrug:

Hes Edgar Wrong from now on.

Im so glad The Russos, Joss and James adapted to Marvel.

You really make it sound like nobody is allowed to leave Marvel.

haha. Its like the Mafia, you know that! :)

Don't want a heist film? Think Marvel meets Ocean 11?

lol, Im thinking of changing my sitename subtitle to "Edgar Was Wrong" just to P off all the Edgar fans. ;)

Are people not wanting an Ant-Man film?

I know he's not an A-lister or even B-lister but I assumed people were stoked for this, before the Director problems at least

Yeah, because its not like casting Robert Redford worked out for TWS.
Oh wait..

Yeah, in a role that I think anyone could have done. Personally, I think James Cromwell could have been better. But, in the end,
he dies,
so really, what was the point? You really think Robert Redford was the driving force behind the success of CA2?

My point was that Marvel hired an older actor like Michael Douglas and it worked out so there is a good chance Douglas will work out as well.

So Edgar Wright is out BUT what about Edgar Po Wong?....

Why should you be exited for Ant-man?

  • As a "heist film" it should be different from anything else Marvel has done before.

  • Using Scott Lang as the main protagonist allows Hank Pym to stick closer to his flawed comic roots

  • It has a stellar cast of talented actors.

  • If the test reel is any indication, they've found great ways to impressively display Antman's powers on the big screen.

Good Points All.

It's not like they cast Redford as Cap,which would be tantamount to what Douglas character would be in this film.
